We went to the free Natural History Museum on a weekend and a weekday. We enjoyed the mid-week visit loads more.

Entering on the Exhibition Rd. side is easier than the main entrance on Cromwell, and the best bathrooms (hot water, changing facilities, space for a stroller) are located here. This building has an impressive escalator leading into a giant planet Earth (stroller-accessible elevator just beyond the escalator), a room that shakes to mimic an earthquake, and a collection of jewels and minerals.

From the main floor, access the rest of the museum, the life-sized animal replicas (a HUGE blue whale), and myriad stuffed animals as well as dinosaurs galore.

Our 13 month old was impressed with the animals, and we liked the multiple cafes and sitting areas. The museum is filled with kid-friendly stations where children touch skeletons or alligator skins or watch puppet shows discussing evolution.

They have moving "real" dinosaurs. My 4 year old LOVED this. Beware of large school groups on weekdays. I might try going when it first opens next time.
