What a perfect way to wind the kids down after a long day of sightseeing!
Alcazar (Reales Alcázares y Jardines) Castle
Address Patio de Banderas s/n. 41004 - Sevilla, Tel 34-95 450-2323 Call, Hours Tue-Sat 9:30am-7pm; Sun 9:30am-5pm (hours change seasonally, call ahead), Cost 7€
Start your afternoon with a visit to the Alcazar, a Muslim palace that was taken over and expanded by Christian kings, is a highlight of any trip to Sevilla. The lush interiors are fascinating and beautiful, and children can run freely in the beautiful gardens. The flow of the palace itself alternates between indoors and outdoors, making it even easier for active kids to enjoy. If your kids are particularly in awe of princes and princesses, they might enjoy a tour of the (lived in) royal apartments upstairs. Ask for details at the ticket desk when you enter the Alcazar.
There is a pond with ducks and fish, so bring along some crackers or bread (these animals are by no means wild)
Avoid the lines by visiting later in the day. If you have very young children, ask a security guard whether it is ok to skip the lines.
After your visit, let the kids run free in the playground just outside the castle walls before getting a bite to eat in the Barrio or at one of our recommended restaurants.
Bodega Santa Cruz (Las Columnas)
Address c/ Rodrigo Caro 2, Sevilla,
This traditional tapas restaurant is one of the most popular in town among locals. In addition to all the standard tapas, there are small sandwiches (montaditos) and paella. If you haven't tried it already, queso macheco (a savory Spanish cheese) is a good choice for the kids. There are just a few tables inside, and they can be difficult to get, but there are also tiny stand-up tables out front... a good option if your kids are tired of sitting still. Service is speedy.
