See the city of Sevilla from the heights of La Giralda and then wander the streets of the Barrio de Santa Cruz (where you'll also pick up a meal). This itinerary is recommended for the afternoon when the Cathedral is less crowded and the thick walls and narrow streets of the Barrio make it cooler than the rest of town.

Cathedral and La Giralda Bell Tower (Santa Maria de la Sede)

Address Plaza del Triunfo, 41004, Seville, Spain, Tel 95 421-4971 Call, Hours Mon-Sat 11am-5pm; Sun 2:30pm-6pm, Cost 7.50€

Start your afternoon at the Cathedral, one of the largest churches in Europe and the largest Gothic church anywhere. Even your kids will be in awe of the tall ceilings and the ornate decoration. When they're done inside, head outside to the couryard filled with bitter orange trees. Next, climb La Giralda, a 35-story bell tower that was originally a minaret and look down on the city. The tower was built with ramps instead of stairs (except for a short staircase near the top) making it possible to visit even with a stroller!

Barrio de Santa Cruz

Address Lope De Rueda 7, 41004 Sevilla, Spain,

Expect to get a little lost as you wander in the Barrio Santa Cruz (The old Jewish Quarter of Sevilla). This area is beautifully preserved, and it's here that you'll get a sense of what life in old Seville must have been like. Don't be afraid to peek into open courtyards or sit on a bench while your kids run in one of the many beautiful squares.

Kids will enjoy wandering into shops where pottery is being painted, and shopping for flamenco or bull fighting costumes, and the entire district is closed to traffic, making it an easy stroll even with a toddler in tow.

Next grab lunch or dinner as you pass by the perfect spot, or search out one of our recommendations.

Bar Campanario

Address Mateos Gago, 8, Sevilla, Spain, Tel 34-95 456 4189 Call,

This somewhat modern looking tapas restaurant has a selection of small tapas size pizzas as well as Spanish potato salad. Both likely to be popular with kids. For grownups, there's an extensive menu including some of the best gazpacho in town and excellent sangria. Dining on the small terrace will enable your kids to run a little while they wait for their food.

Bodega Santa Cruz (Las Columnas)

Address c/ Rodrigo Caro 2, Sevilla,

This traditional tapas restaurant is one of the most popular in town among locals. In addition to all the standard tapas, there are small sandwiches (montaditos) and paella. If you haven't tried it already, queso macheco (a savory Spanish cheese) is a good choice for the kids. There are just a few tables inside, and they can be difficult to get, but there are also tiny stand-up tables out front... a good option if your kids are tired of sitting still. Service is speedy.

Casa de la Memoria Flamenco

Address C/ Ximénez de Enciso, 28, Tel 954 560670 Call, Notes Two shows nightly. Prices compare favorably with other venues

If you think that your kids will be able to sit quietly through and (enthralling) flamenco show, reserve advance tickets at Casa de la Memoria

Casa de la Memoria presents flamenco for the aficionado rather than the tourist. Located in the courtyard of a private house in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, a small stage is surrounded by flowers, candles, and no more than three rows of seating. No food or drinks are served, and the intimate environment gives you a sense of closeness with the performers and other audience members.
