All Purpose has terrific pizza and salads, but what really makes it a hit with our family is the kid sized play kitchen. While we wait for our pizza, our kids play with pizza dough, rolling pins, and other toys. They're within view and having fun while we enjoy a grown-up conversation. more

When you'd love an elegant grown up meal, but you don't have a sitter, the Four Seasons is a great choice. Far from being stuffy, this modern restaurant, overlooking Puget Sound (with its constantly moving ships) caters nicely to kids. The restaurant has an inexpensive kids menu (most entrees are $5) complete with cut-fruit appetizers, cute kid plates and silverware, and even plastic cups. For adults, the menu includes fresh, locally sourced ingredients like dungeness crab and salmon. Ask for a seat by the window so that your kids can enjoy the views of cargo boats, cruise ships, and the changing sky. more

This upscale Mexican restaurant has a casual feel that works well for families, and large booths accommodate kids well. There's a lot of competition for the title of "best cupcake in Seattle," and Cupcake Royale is definitel one of the lead contenders. Here's what we like: Seasonal cupcakes change monthly, "baby cakes" are just the right size for young kids to enjoy without getting an overwhelming sugar high, and the company donates thousands of cupcakes to charity each year. This Capitol Hill location has an open kitchen where you can watch the cupcakes being frosted - that's way more entertaining than it sounds. more

The food at this excellent Mexican restaurant is not the heavy, cheese laden entrees that we've become accustomed to. Dishes are light and flavorful, and perfectly sized for sharing. One of my favorite places in Seattle. This restaurant takes advantage of the local seafood to serve some of the best and freshest sushi on the west coast. Whether you like traditional Japanese food and sushi or want a few new style rolls now and again, you'll be happy at Nishino. Though this is a nice restaurant, they are incredibly accommodating with kids. Arive when they open (5:30) to score a seat at the sushi bar where kids can watch all the action. For infants, the staff is happy to bring items like steamed rice, tofu, or sliced avocado. Even picky kids will like the Lauren roll (vegetarian). more

Though this is a chain restaurant, we often eat here when we're with the kids. It's fast, they're really accommodating, and have a large variety of options, making it easy to satisfy everyone. It's also fairly loud, which lets us relax about our kids. For young toddlers, they are happy to steam up some plain vegetables, and there are a variety of noodle dishes. more

True, the seating here, which is mostly at bar-height tables, isn't as kid-friendly as I wish it was, but the fish and chips are mouthwatering, fresh, and inexpensive. Plus, there are fries. Can you think of a more suitable meal to feed a young child visiting Seattle? more

Taste, located inside the recently redone Seattle Art Museum may look too hip for toddlers, but the restaurant does a great job of catering to kids with a $5 kids menus. Adults will enjoy the menu, which focuses on fresh local ingredients with dishes like ricotta gnocchi and pan roasted trout. If the kids get too wiggly to sit in their seats, a quick walk through the SAM lobby (my kids LOVE the "flashing cars" exhibit) should help them get their jiggles out. more

This kid-friendly neighborhood pub is a place where moms and dads can have a pint and a bite to eat while the tots explore the kids corner stocked with toys and books. But the kids aren't relegated to the corner. Oh no, they rule the whole roost. Stocked with high chairs and booster seats, nearly every table has at least one kid noshing on noodles or fish and chips. The joint is jumping with littles ones from 5 p.m. when the doors open until about 7 p.m. (you know, around bath-time). After 8, you'll find mostly adults enjoying the peace and quiet and the dozen or so brews on tap. FYI: Friday is the big night for your kid to see and be seen. more
