Renting an Agriturismo (farm stay accommodation) in Tuscany is an affordable family friendly way to vacation. Many Agriturismos have pools, farm animals for kids to play with, and apartment/villa self-catering accommodation that lends itself well to families with young children and can be a great home base for activities. The Italians love children and they are welcome everywhere. We spent a week at San Giovanni in Monteroni d'Arbia with our 10 month old son. We swam in the pool, saw new baby ducklings, our son explored on the grass, played on the swing set and dined in his high chair on the patio overlooking the Tuscan countryside. A playpen and high chair was provided. There were bikes available for use. Once baby was in bed we made dinner enjoyed dinner and wine on the terrace overlooking the countryside in the evening.
During the day, we visited surrounding villages and usually ate lunch in a village. We often visited local markets to buy our food for the evening dinners.
