The hotel is enormous, with a beautiful beach and tons of activities. For kids their are organized crafts and "camps," surfing lessons (age 6 and up), and bike rentals. more

This 3 1/2 star resort is popular both because of its Pacific Beach location (close to La Jolla) and because rooms are spotless, having been renovated in 2006. Family friendly features include free continental breakfast, a variety of suite configurations, a swimming pool, cribs, and refrigerators on request. Wireless internet is included free of charge. For older kids, the hotel has boogie boards, wetsuits, and surfboards available to borrow and sometimes has buckets and shovels for younger kids. more

Located on popular Pacific Beach, this small (44 room) trendy hotel is a fun place to stay if you want a beach hotel without all the amenities of a major resort. Rooms are recently renovated and come with all the modern amenities, including XBox game systems. The "Sweet Suite" can be turned into a two bedroom suite by connecting a "Surf Pad" ocean view room. more

Four Seasons Aviara

A large resort hotel with the typically exceptional Four Seasons style and level of service. We've found the Aviara to be particularly child-friendly. When we arrived, the room was fully child-proofed, including bumpers on all furniture with sharp corners, and our son's name was spelled out in the bathtub with little sponge letters. The breakfast buffet includes a second buffet that is child height with child-friendly foods and a dedicated server. Finn (30 months at the time) thought this was very cool! more
