The Hotel Monaco's location, just 2.5 blocks from Union Square, makes it a good launching off spot for a family trip to San Francisco. The hotel is recently refurbished and comfortable with quirky and fun decor. Kids are welcomed with an activity pack that included (on our stay) crayons, coloring pages and a kids card game. A pet goldfish can also be sent up to your room, and at turndown we found kid-sized robes spread out on the beds. During our stay, Wii was set up in the hotel "living room" during the cocktail hour.
Caveats: double rooms are small and would be a tight fit for a family of four. Not all rooms have bathtubs, be sure to ask for a bathtub when you reserve your room if that is important to you.
Tips: Handicapped rooms do have the advantage of extra large bathrooms, and if your child sleeps in a hotel crib, you might consider wheeling it into the bathroom so that you can work in the bedroom while they sleep. Members of the hotel's loyalty program are rewarded with free in-room WiFi on every trip. Be sure to sign up before you go.
