There are so many great places to visit in DC with kids. Our kiddos (3 and 1) LOVE animals, so the National Zoo was by far their favorite place to visit.

We were within walking distance from the metrotrain -- so it was a quick 15-20 minute ride into the City and it added to the adventure. The train was also on our favorite list.

We took the train in, was able to walk a few blocks to the zoo, and then because it's free, we could saty as long or as short as we needed to. We would leave in the morning, pack a lunch, and be back at our rental in time for afternoon naps!

At the Zoo, we started by getting a map and looking it over with our 3 year old. We let her choose which animals she wanted to see the most and then came up with a route that would allow us to hit those first. With toddlers, it's always important to remember that you don't have to see everything! Our kids favorite was the gorilla house, where they can see the animals on their level.
