We took our two year old to the zoo by accident! On the way to a museum, we realized we'd forgotten the stroller. Just then we passed by the freeway sign for the zoo. It was the perfect thing for my daughter. First, the individual areas are mostly contained, so it felt safer with a toddler who's not great at holding hands and staying near Mommy. Second, there are lots of kid friendly activities so you're not just tromping from one animal to the next. There's a big fountain, a splash zone, a playground, a hedge maze, a carousel, etc. There are also a options for when you've tired them out. You can rent strollers. There is also a train that encircles the zoo. Finally, the food options are decent. I wasn't thrilled by the food in the cafeteria style restaurant but was happy to see it did have veggie options. We LOVED our visit to the Jacksonville Zoo, and are planning to go back for some special events. I've heard their nighttime zoo events around Halloween are spectacular.
