My kids and husband and I have become so enamored of Sanibel Island, Fl. I can't recommend enough that families book a "shelling charter", one where the captain takes you out to uninhabited islands and you can find tons of shells, sand dollars, and many types of ocean creatures.
You can also book the charter as a fishing/shelling charter, so you can fish half the time, and shell half the time. Shelling charters can be found in every tourist book and in the Tourist Welcome Center as you enter Sanibel!
