The Curators at the Art Institute have gone to extra effort to make the museum fun for kids. Ask at the information desk for one of the several booklets designed to help kids enjoy the museum, or start your visit down at the Kraft Education Center where kids can touch the artwork and even create some of their own.
During the construction that is expected to last into 2009, the Gunsaulus Hall is a great place for kids to sit and watch the building of the Modern Wing
The Kraft Education Center on the lower level has activities for kids and a room with art books, puzzles, and more. We chose a piece of art (Grant Wood's American Gothic) while in the children's room, and then used it as an "I Spy" piece to find in the museum. The kids loved the search.
There's also a hands-on kids' area in the museum.
