Central park covers 843 acres, which is 6% of Manhattan. While most tourists stay around the southern part of the park (with the Zoo, Metropolitan museum, and gardens) There are also great attractions for kids in the Northern part of the park, including a swimming pool and the North Meadow Recreation Center where you can borrow sports equipment for the day.
The Central Park Zoo, on the east side of the park between 63rd and 66th street is a great place to stop with children, and admission includes the children's zoo.
Other attractions for kids in Central Park include the carousel and horse drawn carriage rides, but we think you'll have a great time even if you just wander through and enjoy the natural scenery.
