In a recent trip to NYC, we checked out the free kayaking in the Hudson River at 72nd street. My husband took our 2 year old, and a friend took his 6 and 9 year olds, and all three kids had a great time. It's a 20 minute trip in the kayaks, and there are playgrounds nearby in Riverside park, as well as a bike path and boats to watch.
