We needed a place to stay that was inexpensive but nice, beyond just "clean" and toddler friendly. This older hotel had all the components you need when you have little ones: an indoor pool, a free buffet breakfast and someone to clear the dishes for you, apples or cookies at the front desk when you check in and a "happy hour" with appetizers that you can take back up to your room & even substitute for a dinner if you are trying to save money (they had meatballs, which were perfect for my 17 month old to nibble on).
We also received tickets for 2 free drinks in the lounge, which I would have taken advantage of, but I was parenting solo while my husband was at a bachelor party so no cocktails for me! The room was a divided suite with a door, so we didn't worry about having the TV or lights on after our daughter went to sleep. It was also close enough to downtown Portland that we could easily drive in and there was a large strip mall area with a Babies R Us right across the street.
