The Philadelphia Zoo is an easy drive off of the PA turnpike. It is a great place to visit with your kids of all ages or for grandparents to take kids. There are many exhibits and activities. The zoo is celebrating it's 150th anniversary and just opened the brand new McNeilian Aviary Exhibit. My 1 year old daughter greatly enjoyed the large cats exhibits where you can stand right at a clear barrier and she was able to put her hand right up against where the tiger was standing. You can even take a ride on the Channel 6 Zoo Hot Air Balloon. I recommend getting a membership as it is actually almost the same price to be able to go all year as to buy tickets for everyone and parking when you get there. Plus you get special entrance to events like a sleepover in the zoo and discounts in the gift shops. Take a stroller for little ones as it is a lot of walking and remember the hand sanitizer to use before eating at one of the many food stops.
