We used to live in Pittsburgh and the big highlight of every visitor was the ride up Mt Washington on the Duquesne Incline.
I would also recommend a trip to The Strip--great food finds, real shaved ice! My son was excited to check out Wholey's -he just loved watching the fish swim around.
The fireworks after the Pirates Games are great! You can ride the big paddle wheel boat from Station Square. Also home to the National Aviary, Carnegie Science Center (dragged my 2 yr old away), Pittsburgh Zoo, Kennywood Amusement Park, River/parks on the North Shore...I can go on and on!
