Technically, this is a chain, albeit local but it hass grown to well over 10 locations. But it still holds a special place in our hearts. Kid-friendly fare that adults love as well. Old Town location is a bit small but worth stopping in if you are in the neighborhood. more

This is a local chain with about 10 locations. We frequent the ones in Old Town and Penn Quarter (DC). This is a true kid-friendly place where kids eat free on Tuesdays (2 kids meal per adult entree). My one complaint about the Old Town location is that the main restaurant is on the 2nd level, the bar and small "smoking section" are on the first level. The Old Town location opens on the early side for brunch on the weekends (9AM). Also, the bar hosts live musical acts late nights in case you have a local babysitter/grandparent. more

This is a great local, family owned gem. We eat there at least once a week. Could be described as a "hole in the wall". They have "happy hour" specials M-T from 5-7PM (prime fmaily dining hours). The chicken in the BEST! Super yummy - kids and adults agree. My son could live on the refried beans and chicken quesedilla. We were shocked when he proclaimed "quesedilla" as a 16 month old, most probably since that is one of my favorites. There is a mural of 3 singing cowboys which in addition to the TVs tuned to soccer and the picture windows for Metro bus spotting keep our son entertained for the duration of dinner. Super affordable and family friendly. more

Great tasting pizza - our favorite is the Piedmontese: homemade meatballs, basil, sun dried tomatoes. Fabulous Monday night special for Moms and Dads - Pizza, 2 salads and 2 glasses of wine for under $25. Tuesday id half price bottle of wine night. Limited outdoor seating along a busy throughfare, but when the weather is nice we always opt for outdoor seating. Sandwiches are saif to be good but we always get the pizza. more

This local chain of hamburger restaraunts is known for using top quality, fresh ground meat and other ingredients. It’s a quick, easy, albeit unhealthy, option on King Street more

If you happen to be staying in the DC suburb of Alexandria, be sure you check out this coffee shop. We always try to take our family and freinds who have little ones. They have a train table and a fish tank (well a flat screen with fish scenes) that keep our little guy happy while the adults have some coffee and a homemade pastry. My favorites are the quiche and zuchini-chocolate chip bread. more

This is another place to visit if you find yoruself in the DC suburb of Alexandria. Between watching the donut conveyor belt and metro bus sightings out the front window, we can spend an hour there. They have paper hats for the kiddies that my son loves. We have never been on a Saturday or Sunday morning when the "Hot Now" sign was not on - code for donut conveyor in operation. more
Wait staff is always super friendly to our very loud 21 month old. We have been taking our daughter to this restaurant since she was a month old and have never felt out of place. more

A great local bar and low country restaurant. We ate there on St. Patrick's day because pregnant mama had a shrimp po-boy craving. It was our first dining experience there with a toddler. The staff was very friendly but the number of tables that could seat a high chair are limited. We were about the be seated in a booth when the hostess realized we needed a high chair. A very nice couple offered to switch tables with us so we could have a table (and use the high chair) as they had just been seated. There is no kids menu but some perennial children's favorites like mac-n-cheese (was really good) and quesadillas are on the menu. I think our son would have also enjoyed the cheese grits. The main dining room was a bit smoky as it is off of the bar but that could have been because there was a large crowd gathered to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. The dining room was quite loud so a small child will not bother anyone's dining experience. more

Located a block from the Potomac River in Old Town Alexandria, this is one of our "go-to" places. It is a great neighborhood find and pleasing to nearly everyone, including my never satisfied father-in-law. He likes the fish and chips, my husband likes the beer selection, I love the steak sandwich and the Blondie dessert. My son likes to look at the boats and flags on the wall and if we sit on the first floor near the window he can see the planes approaching National Airport. The kids menu is good considering it's a kids menu - in addition to mac and cheese and such, they have grilled salmon on the kids menu. Sunday brunch is yummy, too. They serve a great Virginia Casserole, you won't be disappointed. more
