We enjoy visiting the Bull Run Conservancy, a historic non-profit group that preserves and protects the Bull Run Mountains in Haymarket, Virginia. They have excellent educational programs, though we have only visited to hike the many trails there. My blog entry here has pictures of the trip we took to the very top of the mountain on Memorial day. Take plenty of water, wear appropriate clothing (ticks abound out here!!) and a bag for your garbage on the way, there is a garbage collection area just outside the entrance to the trails. There are no restrooms on site, but that hasn't stopped us yet! It's a great place!
