Kids will love a stop in wacky Archie McPhee where you can find anything from plastic toy soldiers and rubber chickens to boxing nuns and nodder head dolls. Adults will have fun browsing the racks too. This is a great place to pick up gag gifts!

There's also a branch of Archie McPhee's in Wallingford, which we visited on a recent trip and you might want note it in your review of the Ballard branch. Chock full of the sort of things you reference in your review, e.g., bacon bandages, wasabi chapstick, Angry Mob playset, etc. Lots for kids there too; our 4- and 7-year old boys liked the "construction crew" toy soldiers, funky mints, etc.

Not far away from the Wallingform McPhee's on 45th is a homey little Japanese place; my wife said it reminded her of the mom-and-pop places that were common when she was a child growing up on Shikoku. You might enjoy it when salving the taste for Japanese food noted in your review of the I-District crepe shop.

Nice website, and we'll refer to it when preparing for future trips; hope you and your family can make that trip over to Japan sometime!
