Where are You Headed Next?
With the exception of a short family trip to Orange County and Carlsbad, CA (where we'll visit LegoLand for with close friends) we're home bound until after Baby3 is born. I'm feeling a little stir crazy, so please let me live through you... Where are you going next and what will you do there?

Hi Debbie. Enjoy this time at home, preparing for the next Delicious traveler! We're going to Disney World last week of April, for 10 days, with our 2 yr old. First long plane trip as a toddler (and a day flight). Many of your tips will be used!

In two weeks, we are going to the striving metropolis of..... Gatlinburg, TN! As a TN native, I love Gatlingburg, even if it is very quaint and cheesy (which is an odd combination). But I'm sure my daughter (13 months) will love it and she'll get to spend time with her Nana and Poppa.
What else do we have lined up? hmmm we are spending the July fourth weekend at a timeshare in the Shenandoah Valley, then to Indy sometime in the summer. After that Mommy and Daddy get to go on a real vacation without the little one- the UK for a little over a week.

This weekend we're driving to Chicago to Florida for my parents' 27th anniversary weekend. We'll be back in a month to pick up our son, who's enjoying an extended vacation being spoiled rotten. After that, it will be mostly day trips around Chicagoland for a while. Day trips keep me sane and make me feel like I'm still traveling even if I'm really not.

Maybe you can plan some close-to-home daytrips so you don't feel so cooped up?
We've actually got a fair bit planned. We'll be in Phoenix for spring break (week after Easter). DH and I are also hoping to spend a few days at a resort in Scottsdale without the kids (they'll be with the grandparents). Then in June we're hoping to do a driving tour of the central U.S. with stops in PA, OH, WI, and KS - all visiting friends and family. In August we'll spend our usual three weeks in Vermont and then we're going to NYC for Labor Day.
Wow - I actually didn't realize I had that much planned until I wrote it down! Funny how my travel tends to get away from me like that.

Hello Debbie,
I'm going on a solo trip to Israel on Sunday. Then off for a family vacation to Paris, Barcelona, and Marrakech in May!

Hey! My 2 yr old son and I will be heading out on our 1st "Family Vacation". As a single mom, it's daunting and very, very exciting!
We're staying near Gulf Shores, AL in a wonderful RV Resort, with a pool and a stocked fishing pond and wonderful bathroom facilities! A nearby town will be hosting a "Flower & Garden Extravaganza" and then later that weekend we'll be off to a Train Ride with the Easter Bunny! This is also my birthday weekend, and I couldn't imagine spending it any other way!
Thanks for all you do! Can't wait!

This weekend I hope to do some local hiking to check out all the spring blooms. Next weekend I am off to Sacramento to host a baby shower and sometime in the next couple weeks I would love to get to the desert to check out the wildflower bloom. Oh- and I am going to Santa Barbara at the end of the month for a couple days. Should be fun!

You are all making me so jealous, but in a good way!

We completely overbooked March. We're going to Palm Springs, Yosemite, and then off to Washington DC.
I was last in DC when I was 13 on a class trip so I'm more excited about going than my girls. My 5yo is really interested in Abe Lincoln right now, probably from her new interest in money, so the Lincoln memorial might be a highlight. We're renting an apartment in the Capital Hill neighborhood so I'm excited about having space and getting to take the subway everywhere. With a 5yo and a 2yo we've set modest sightseeing goals: Smithsonian (of course), National Museum of Natural History to see the dinosaur fossils, Air and Space Museum, Monuments on the Mall, and maybe the zoo.

Hello Debbie! I just recently found your site, and I have to say that so far I think it's fantastic! I have 3 little ones myself: 4 yo S, 2 yo R, and 7 mo P. And next week we'll be headed to San Antonio from Huntsville, AL! A nice weeklong trip to see my folks, and do some sightseeing! Don't let the new baby slow you down; when P was 2 mo we went to Michigan, and when I was pregnant we explored Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Kentucky! Hope you get back to travelling soon!

We're heading to Vegas, Baby with babies (well preschoolers). Everyone is so excited. My DH is teaching there so the hotel will be free and he will be off at 3pm daily to enjoy the fun with us. I've found lots of kid friendly things to do including museums, magic shows and roller coasters. I'm also looking for the perfect inexpensive hotel with a great pool and room for a family of 5...any suggestions?

I'm leading a group of fabulous women to Bhutan in April. We're stopping in Thailand first and I CAN NOT wait for some street vendor Phad Thai!
Debbie on March 6, 2009 at 11:16 a.m.
Bridget,
Right now there are so many amazing deals on the high end hotels in Vegas, that I would actually recommend starting there. You might find that the rates aren't much more than the mid-range hotels, and of course the amenities would be nicer.
I wish I could recommend a specific mid-range hotel for you, but it's been a while since we've visited Vegas, and since I used to go primarily on business, I was always lucky enough to stay at higher end properties.
Good luck!

Even though I just got back from Mexico it looks like my next trip in May will head back there to explore the Yucatan peninsula. I was inspired by the episode of the Amateur Traveler I did with Zora O'Neill who was one of the authors of the Moon guide to the Yucatan.

We are headed to Ireland on Wednesday for 11 days with our 16 month old. It is our first trip to Ireland and looking forward to it. We are going to spend a few days in multiple locations. We will be there for St. Patrick's day so we are very excited.

I'm off to Austin, Texas for five days! I'm going for SxSW, but I'm also excited to catch up with a former expat blogger from Switzerland that I've never met in 3d, even though we were sort of expat neighbors. She's in Austin now, and like me, thinks good pastry is really important. I can't wait.

We just got back from a weekend at the Dead Sea. We head back to Chicago in the middle of my 35th week of pregnancy, in the beginning of April. The plan is to go to Eilat before then, though the dates aren't set yet. Baby's due in the beginning of May, and I suspect we won't be traveling much between our return to Chicago and the birth. We're hoping to do a lot of travel during my maternity leave, though. To the Olympic Peninsula for a camping trip, at the very least.

We're also planning a trip to Israel- (for a wedding in June) with our 2 year old and me, 6 1/2 months pregnant!
I'm very much looking forward to floating, belly-blooming, in the Dead Sea. So far, I'm running into a few hitches since I can't find any tour companies that take children under 5. If anyone has any suggestions, especially for Jerusalem...that would be fabulous.
Thanks so much for your site. I've never copied and pasted so many ideas from one site before! It's wonderful!!

I know how you might feel.. Even with the economy, I go stir-crazy if I don't have anything plan. Even a local trip to the children museum will be a nice choice.
We just got back from Gatlinburg for a weekend trip. It was fun.
Spring break - we will be in DC for a week.
May - we will be in Disneyworld to celebrate my hubby 40th birthday
That's pretty much what I have lined up.
