Special Offer: Kindle 3G with Free $25 Amazon Gift Certificate for $189

I'm not sure I've written on DelicousBaby about my deep love for my Kindle. My husband gave it to me when I was pregnant with Eilan, and it's been in pretty much continuous use ever since, both when we travel and when we are at home. Today Amazon is running a special deal where you can buy the latest version of the reader for $189.99 and receive a free $25 gift card. Here's the link to buy it (or forward as a hint for mother's day!) Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device

Kindle 3G with Free Wireless
Kindle 3G with Free Wireless
Here's why I love my Kindle:
  • Most books are cheaper on the Kindle than in Paperback. Many older books are free.
  • The Kindle fits easily in my purse (not an easy feat with three kids) and with this neoprene cover, it's protected from the other childhood odds and ends I carry in there. It's so easy to bring along, that I often end up reading to the kids while we're waiting for our meals in a restaurant.
  • When we travel, I used to have to guess how many books I needed, or buy new books on the road. Now I just bring along the Kindle and I can always purchase new books off of my wishlist wherever we are. I've been able to cut way back on the bulk in my carry on bag and my checked baggage.
  • Now that Everest is reading chapter books, we can download new books for him on the go too!
  • You can use Lendle to share books with friends and family
  • Even when I leave the Kindle at home, my book is synced with my iPhone, meaning that I can read a few pages if I'm early for school pickup or waiting at the Doctor's office.

I agree with everything you just said about the Kindle. My husband surprised me with one for Christmas. I wasn't really sure I would like it. I'm in publishing. I make my living off of making paper books. However, I am a true convert. Every trip since Christmas, I have nto had to lug 15lbs of books around, I just have my Kindle. Now that I am in China/Japan for 3 weeks, all I have to do is have my Kindle with me. I can change my mind on what I want to read a hundred times and it doesn't increase my suitcase load. Now if only they would release the Harry Potter books as e-books, my world would be perfect!

I wanted to get one for my wife but I thought it might just be a waste of money. I see others use it but I just feel it will just become another tech thing shes not going to use.

    @walkingontravels

I'm curious about the publishing piece - it seems like ebooks make publishing more efficient since you don't end up with all these print books that need to be shipped around (and that need to be discounted or re-pulped if they don't sell), but I can see how a publisher might be worried that ebooks make it easier for an author to skip the publisher and go directly to the consumer

@bluegreen it's tricky to predict, isn't it! I think part of what made the kindle work for me is that I already read a ton + I really did need a different solution for travel. Having a new baby also helped motivate me to transition since it's so much easier to hold a kindle in one hand and read while you have a baby sleeping in your arms than it is to do that with a book.

yes we have one and sits around the house collecting dusk and taking up space. lol I guess the people in my household are old fashion... I carry 2 or 3 books in my purse regularly. I guess I will never learn

I really wanted to get this, but then, I was just told to hold out a little longer for a color one. Also, do you have an IPAD 2? Someone else suggested that the IPAD 2 will let my have free face to face calls internationally plus download as much as I can on Kindle.
I'm so non-tech so I am confussed. I really do want an e-reader of that I am sure.

    Kailyn ;)

SJ Color would be nice, wouldn't it! Especially for children's books or magazines.

I do have an IPad 2 also - I love it, and use it a ton for browsing, facetime, and children's books. I don't love reading my books on it though - the backlit display is a little tough on the eyes, and the size just isn't as comfortable to hold as you read - still, if I were only going to get one device, the IPad2 would be it.
