A visit to the Alcazar, a Muslim palace that was taken over and expanded by Christian kings, is a highlight of any trip to Sevilla. Even our toddler said it was his favorite outing in Seville. The lush interiors are fascinating and beautiful, and children can run freely in the beautiful gardens. The flow of the palace itself alternates between indoors and outdoors, making it even easier for active kids to enjoy. If your kids are particularly in awe of princes and princesses, they might enjoy a tour of the (lived in) royal apartments upstairs. Ask for details at the ticket desk when you enter the Alcazar. more

Barrio de Santa Cruz

Address Lope De Rueda 7, 41004 Sevilla, Spain Map,

The old Jewish Quarter of Sevilla is beautifully preserved, and it's here that you'll get a sense of what life in old Seville must have been like. Even with a good map, expect to get lost in the area's mazelike streets, it's part of the charm, and the area isn't big enough to stay lost for long. The ideal time for a walk in this area is in late afternoon or early evening. more

Casa de la Memoria Flamenco

Address C/ Ximénez de Enciso, 28 Map, Tel 954 560670 Call, Notes Two shows nightly. Prices compare favorably with other venues

Casa de la Memoria presents flamenco for the aficionado rather than the tourist. Located in the courtyard of a private house in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, a small stage is surrounded by flowers, candles, and no more than three rows of seating. No food or drinks are served, and the intimate environment gives you a sense of closeness with the performers and other audience members. more

One of the largest churches in Europe and the largest Gothic church anywhere. Even your kids will be in awe of the tall ceilings and the ornate decoration. When they're done inside, head outside to the couryard filled with bitter orange trees. Next, climb La Giralda, a 35-story bell tower that was originally a minaret. The tower was built with ramps instead of stairs (except for a short staircase near the top) making it possible to visit even with a stroller! more

We aren't usually drawn in by horse drawn carraige rides, but something about the setting in Sevilla entranced us. A ride at dusk around the city, to the Plaza de Espana, and through Maria Luisa Park is perfectly romantic, even with kids in tow. more

This beautiful old residence was the home of the Countess of Lebrija, a passionate collector of ancient artifacts. Her collection still remains in the residence, and this is an opportunity to see not only how the very wealthy lived, but also to enjoy tiles and other artifacts salvaged from the nearby Roman ruins of Itálica. Kids will be fascinated with the tile floors, and my kids always love the opportunity to see houses that are so completely different from our own. more

This excellent company has only two tour guides, Concepcion Delgado and her husband. Groups are kept small, and tours are in English. The pace is slow enough for kids to come along, and the discussion is engaging. We felt that we saw areas we would not have explored without the guide, and learned a lot about Sevilla as well. more
