Cactus Cantina

Address 3300 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington, DC 20016 Map, Tel (202) 686-7222 Call, Website

This is a forever favorite of mine. Before kids, I would go for margaritas with my girl friends and now that I have a toddler, I can appreciate it as a family friendly place. more

Cafe Deluxe

Address 3228 Wisconsin Ave NW, Washington DC 20016 Map, Tel (202) 686-2233 Call, Website

It's not quite white-tablecloth but very good food for grownups with a pretty good kids menu, crayons for the kids, etc. The Cleveland Park has outdoor seating. Have not visited the other 2 locations (Bethesda & Tyson's Corner) but would imagine they are just as kid-friendly. more

Clyde's - Chevy Chase, MD

Address 5441 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 Map, Website

This is a local chain. It serves good food, has a nice atmosphere and the Chevy Chase location has trains/planes/race cars as decore. A definite plus for young diners. This Chevy Chase location is our favorite as the service is reliably good. The service in the downtown location is always sub-par and can be a disaster when dining with toddlers. more

Georgia Brown's

Address 950 15th St NW, washington DC Map, Website

This is a "special ocassion" restaurant for us, one of our favorite places BK (before Kids). We love the Sunday Jazz brunch but were not sure if it would be a good place to take the little guy. They had a New Year's Day brunch and we had the day off so we took a chance. more

Sequoia

Address 3000 K Street NW, washington, DC 20007 Map, Website

Sequoia is not usually what you'd think of as a kid place, but we like it as an adult restaurant suitable to take children. It offers a few child friendly features : Parking lot in the building, big windows, and water outside, and lots of airplanes flying by on their way to/from National Airport and it's pretty loud already, so a kid won't really disturb anyone. The food is good (not great, but solidly good) and the view is terrific. You can walk along the river before and/or after eating. A few river boat tours dock there too in the event you want to go for a ride. more

Ted's Bulletin

Address 505 8th Street SE, Washington, DC Map, Tel (202) 544-8337 Call, Website

This family restaurant is popular with everyone from families with young children, the grandparents, and the hipster crowd. The funky tin-ceilinged spot screens old black and white movies on the wall, the menu is a newspaper and they serve classic American dishes with a modern twist. Even better is their bakery case full of homemade pop-tarts, twinkies and snowballs, and their handmade thick shakes in tons of flavors for the kids (or with alcohol for the adults). more

Thomas Sweet - Ice Cream parlor

Address 3214 P Street NW, Washington, DC 20007 Map, Website

This is not exactly an activity but it is one of our favorite stops in Georgetown - especially after a day of window shopping. The bittersweet chocolate ice cream is our favorite. There is outdoor seating. more
