This is a great stop for history buffs. It is a self guided tour so kids can explore at their own pace. It doesn't look like much from the outside but when we walked in we were shocked at how big it was. We ended up spending the entire day there. They have activities and exhibits for all ages. San Antonio River Tours

Address Historia (Under Market St. Bridge & Alamo St.) Map, Website

We visited San Antonio at Christmas time (after Christmas and before Jan 1) and the river is lit with christmas lights. We took this boat tour at dusk with 6 little kids and it was great. We were able to enjoy the lights the kids thought the boat ride was fun. it was a little long but we brought snacks so that saved us at the end. The tour boat driver was very interesting and my 3 YO old learned a valuable lesson from him - if you drink too much beer, you can fall in the river. Be aware that they drain the river once a year in January for cleaning/maintenance. They have a Mud Festival during that time which sounds like a lot of fun to the mom of 2 little boys! more

We love the zoo. My kids are five and three and we have been members of the San Antonio Zoo for the last year. We often go in the morning when it first opens and visit our favorite exhibits. I think we all like the Africa Live exhibit best. After we tour the zoo, we picnic at the park and then catch the San Antonio Zoo Eagle Train. The train takes you around Brackenridge park. The kids love going through the tunnels and the trees. I find it relaxing and the breeze feels great. The train makes a stop at the Witte Museum and if we are not too tired, we occasionally pop in to see the exhibits. more

Sea World San Antonio

Nothing like going to Sea World. It was hot and sunny the day we took my granddaughter. She loved feeding the dolphins. The Dinner with Shamu was extra exciting for her. That's saying a lot because she's pretty calm for a 5 yr old when we're out in public. I only wish we had time to have breakfast at Sea World. What a treat that would have been. Wear sun screen and look for coupons! San Antonio is accessible if you're coming from Houston, Austin or somewhere in between. more
