Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm

Address 1100 Waipoli Road, Kula HI 96790 Map, Tel 808-878-8090 Call,

A lavender farm might seem like an odd choice for an outing with kids, but if you're in the area (the Surfing Goat Dairy is nearby) this makes a pleasant stop. Ask at the gift shop for a kids scavenger hut, but be prepared - I tired of exploring every stop on the map long before my kids did! After you've completed your tour, you can sit on the gift shop gallery's lanai, enjoy the view, and feast on lavender tea and scones. more

Maui Ocean Center - The Hawaiian Aquarium

Address 192 Ma’alaea Rd., Wailuku, HI 96793 Map, Tel 808-270-7000 Call, Website

The Maui Ocean Center is possibly one of my favorite aquariums anywhere. I love the focus on local marine life (instead of imported species), the hands on exhibits, and the size - it's just small enough for young kids to be able to take everything in, but big enough and interesting enough that you can easily spend an afternoon. Many of the exhibits are hands-on, and my kids enjoyed them so much that they visited everything at least twice! more

Maui Theatre presents 'Ulalena

Address 1287 Front Street, Lahaina, HI 96761 Map, Tel 808-667-1998 Call, Website

My kids (aged 1, 3 and 5 at the time) were absolutely on the edge of their seats for the entire performance of 'Ulalena. This theatrical performance tells the story of Hawaii's history using Cirque du Soleil-like dance performances. Popcorn and drinks are available at the venue, but more substantial food is not, be sure to eat dinner prior to the show. more

Old Lahina Luau

Address 1251 Front Street, Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i 96761 Map, Tel 1-800-248-5828 Call, Website

Most Luaus focus on Polynesian dance, with just a small segment featuring Hawaiian dance, so I enjoyed the Old Lahina Luau's focus on Hawaiian dance and a telling of Hawaiian history. more

Honalua Bay, northwest Maui

Address Honalua Bay, Maui Map,

The hike down to beach is very easy and beautiful. The beach is rocky, bring your water shoes. Bring snorkle gear, it is one of the best snorkeling sites in Maui. We saw a ton of marine life. Our 5 and 9 year old snorkeled with me, they did great. Bay is very calm. Our 4 year old was "afraid of the fishies!", so he stayed on the shore and played with rocks. Snorkeling on the right is better than the left. We went in the summer, bay was calm. Gets rougher in the winter. more
