Going on an Election Vacation?

Here in Seattle, there's little doubt about who will get the most votes in the presidential election, so we have signed up to help campaign in another area during the final four days before the election. We don't know yet where we'll be sent, but we hope that the experience of connecting with people in a new city and helping to get out the vote will be rewarding.

What about you? I'd love to hear whether anyone else has plans to travel outside their town on November 4th? Has anyone done this for a past election? What should I expect?

    I would just love to take a vacation form this whole election season! I'm worn out...

    Seriously. Me too. Just remember to vote first.

    Wow, interesting idea--so they just tell you where you need to go? Do they help you find accommodations or are you on your own for that?

    Me--I'll be at the polls all day in my precinct, working as an election job. It's a job that I do proudly, and it's interesting to be a part of the action!

    We're actually going to be in DC the weekend after the election. I'm super curious to see what it's like. Hopefully we'll be feeling celebratory! Certainly it should be at "teachable" moment for my first grader either way.

    @minnemom the details are just starting to trickle in about this. we have two choices. Obama's campaign just opened a new office about a mile from where we live. They could really use help getting out the vote in that area, and it's an idea I find fascinating. Though it's not far from our house, the neighborhood is incredibly international, and we've always enjoyed exploring the food choices there (everything from african and latin american to southeast asian), but we've never had a real opportunity to connect with our own neighbors (sad, right). So helping there might be very personally fulfilling and interesting. I suspect it would also give us the chance to help out in our state's very tight race for the Governor position.

    We're also needed in Nevada, which is of course a state that's more under contention than Washington. We'd be responsible for our own airfare, and i think for our housing too... my husband plans to call today and find out more.

    This is the first time that we'll help out in any political campaign, and I think it's impressive that you'll be working at the polls! What a great way to help out & to connect with your neighbors.

    @Mara

    What a great time to choose to be in DC. I'm sure it will be absolutely fascinating.
