If you missed my previous classes at the Rick Steves Travel Center, you're in luck. I am scheduled to teach a class about traveling with young children on September 25th at 12 noon.

This will be a fun class, and I'll be sharing my best tips along with some fun memories! What I like best, though, is the opportunity to answer real questions from parents in a face-to-face format. Plus, you never know what great swag I might bring along!

How exciting for you! Being in Texas, I buy his tickets when he swings by. ;-)

Hi, I just found your website, i've been learning so much on how to travel with my 15 months old baby, so thank you very much.
I read your post about car seat but i have a question for you , what do you prefer for a 15 months old baby on a 10 hs trip: to be in a car seat or with the cares harness? going on a trip in december and i dont know what to do.
    thank you so much

    Daniele,

I'm so glad you like the site. I'm not a carseat safety expert, so I couldn't comment in detail on the carseat vs. cares question from that perspective.

I think it mostly comes down to personal choice. If you think that your child will sleep better in his or her own carseat, than that would be the way to go. Otherwise, I would choose the CARES - it's lighter, easier to stow when not in use, and gives your child more room in their seat (it also makes it more difficult for them to kick the seat in front of them).

That said, a 15 month old might slip down with the cares because there is no between the legs strap. Some grippy material - like the stuff that people use to line shelves - should help with that.

    Good luck!
