My favorite tip? Let everyone else do it! Spouse, parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, give them all cameras. They enjoy documenting, while I enjoy the moment.

  2. Stacey Brill on November 17, 2008 at 5:02 a.m.

I always try to make sure I say the date when I first start videoing. I always think I will remember later, but never do. And I try to make sure I say how old, tall, etc the kids are, just for posterity.

  3. Kristen on November 17, 2008 at 7:04 a.m.

Take lots of pictures!! This contest is great, thanks for the opportunity.

  4. rachel crisman on November 17, 2008 at 7:36 a.m.

I scrap book my holidays and I used to have a video camera but it was old and finally broke! Now that I have a baby I really feel I need something like this!

  5. Sonnet Smith on November 17, 2008 at 8:23 a.m.

Every year we take a family picture in front of the tree at my parent's house. It is so fun to compare the picture to previous years and see who has grown, the new family members, etc

  6. Naomi on November 17, 2008 at 9 a.m.

Upload or get prints made ASAP. That way, you're still in the holiday mood!

  7. judy brittle on November 17, 2008 at 9:26 a.m.

I tell all my daughters to make sure that they bring their cameras. Then when they develop them with picture picture I get the spares. I have a scrap book for each of my 12 grandchildren so I just get to work on those.

  8. Rachel on November 17, 2008 at 9:31 a.m.

never put the camera down because the moment you do, something is going to happen that you wished you had recorded. with a camera this small, it's not hard to keep around.

  9. Melody on November 17, 2008 at 9:34 a.m.

We take tons and tons of pictures! We bought a digital camera that has a rechargeable battery, so we never have a dead battery! It is so much cheaper than buying batteries all the time.. We were actually thinking about asking for one of these for Christmas!

  10. Melody Hansen on November 17, 2008 at 9:47 a.m.

Left a travel tip about Boston, MA..

  11. Michelle on November 17, 2008 at 10:36 a.m.

My tip would be to make sure to hand off the camera every once in a while so you can get in the videos. You don't want your kids to wonder why you "weren't there". Thanks for the giveaway!

  12. vanessa on November 17, 2008 at 10:45 a.m.

I always turn holiday pictures into our thank you cards. Gets the cards done and forces me to upload the pics to the website to print them. relatives love getting a thank you note/photo. makes the thank you part easier as there is less room to write.

  13. Teresa on November 17, 2008 at 11:21 a.m.

I buy inexpensive one time camera's for each person on Christmas morning

:) Thank you for the wonderful giveaway! :)

I always keep a camera with me so I can catch great moments where ever I am.

  17. brandy walleshauser on November 17, 2008 at 11:40 a.m.

my favorite tip is to stay hidden and just let the family go about their wild ways. if they know there is a camera there, then it becomes a distraction, exspecially with young ones.
i don't have video camera and would love to record this christmas

  18. brandy walleshauser on November 17, 2008 at 11:42 a.m.

  19. Melody on November 17, 2008 at 11:47 a.m.

We never use our video camera except once a year, on New Year's Eve. Then we do a complete end-of-the-year update, along with shots of the new toys and Q&As with the kids. We love it!

  20. michelle santillan on November 17, 2008 at 11:54 a.m.

always have your camera handy and let your guest use it too.

  21. Michele on November 17, 2008 at 11:56 a.m.

Taking holiday pictures for Christmas cards every year, fun to look back on too!

  22. Matthew Meisenhelder on November 17, 2008 at 12:07 p.m.

i bring with me a blank scrapbook on holiday. i also bring my trusty Polaroid camera, this way i can capture instant moments, stick them in the book and write a little description

  23. lovesfool on November 17, 2008 at 12:08 p.m.

    Lots of pics and video!

  24. Marilyn Wons on November 17, 2008 at 12:12 p.m.

I buy a yearly christmas scrapbook for new Christmas photos. I have each year's date on the cover. I keep them in my bookcase for easy access. Every Christmas, our family takes out the previous years and we have a wonderful time looking through them together.

  25. Stephanie P on November 17, 2008 at 12:13 p.m.

Get everyone in the spotlight at once. Use a tripod to get the whole group. Thanks so much.

  26. AmandaK on November 17, 2008 at 12:15 p.m.

Last year, I took my camera to the family get-together. I told them that they can take any pictures they like and I laid the camera down on the table and anyone could pick it up and take pictures. At the end of the night, I went through the pictures and they were great! People have a different way of seeing things through the lens, and now, those pictures are in my Family Holiday photo album!

  27. Joseph Boltz on November 17, 2008 at 12:16 p.m.

My favorite tip for documenting my holiday memories is have plenty of film (old school), batteries (new or rechargeable) and or disposable cameras (give one to each person in the family to take pictures during the gathering).

Then develop them and give each of them an album or DVD during your next family holiday to cherish forever.

  28. Carol on November 17, 2008 at 12:18 p.m.

My best tip is to try to make people forget your taking videos or pics. Spontaneity always leads to fantastic photos, and it's a technique People Magazine has used since its inception.

  29. joanmurraycefalu on November 17, 2008 at 12:23 p.m.

Don't forget to share camera-person duty. Videos and picture from my childhood never included my Dad because he was always behind the lens! :) Have a wonderful Holiday and give your family and friends extra love.

  30. Melissa B. on November 17, 2008 at 12:27 p.m.

Every Christmas I lay out all the presents my kids received and take one picture. That way they can see how much that really got.

  31. Rita A on November 17, 2008 at 12:33 p.m.

Saving the Christmas cards to remember all the important persons in your life.

    Take tons of pictures

  36. Angel on November 17, 2008 at 12:54 p.m.

I'll be setting the video camera on the desk pointed at the floor near teh tree to make sure it all gets recorded, especially important for us since husband will be deployed!

  37. amber on November 17, 2008 at 12:55 p.m.

Ooh, I'd love to win this. I wanted it for Christmas last year, but Santa didn't deliver, lol ;)

My tip: Have extra batteries on hand! You know how you're sure your camera has batteries in it? Well, they will let you down! You don't want to miss out on a great moment by clicking the shutter to find out the camera is dead, or have to fumble around checking the tv remote and any other darn appliance you can find that may have batteries in it. Like the Boy Scouts say, be prepared! :)

    Thanks so much!

  38. Heidi on November 17, 2008 at 1 p.m.

We blog about the events throughout the day. We have family & friends abroad, some in the military, and it's a fun way for them to check in and see what is happening as the extended family gathers. We can also upload video to tell them we miss them and let them see photos of the kids.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  39. Brandi M. on November 17, 2008 at 1 p.m.

For one of our first family vacations, we took our laptop. Each night I was able to type a quick paragraph about what happened that day. When I went back to look at pictures, I had the narrative for each day!

  40. Jennifer Barnett on November 17, 2008 at 1:04 p.m.

I make sure to pass the camera around so that everyone gets in the photos or videos. Too often the photographer gets left out.

  41. Aimee on November 17, 2008 at 1:09 p.m.

My favorite tip is not to wait for the "perfect" photos or to have everyone always looking at the camera smiling. You'll capture some real, lovely, interesting pictures that will be so much fun to look back on!

  42. Stacey Brown on November 17, 2008 at 1:10 p.m.

I try to get my pics printed out right away and scrap book them right away also!

  43. Ann Fantom on November 17, 2008 at 1:11 p.m.

Zoom in for close face shots. It really captures the subject's emotionions

  44. Jennifer on November 17, 2008 at 1:17 p.m.

Mt tip is not to be the only one filming we like to pass around the camera for different perspectives

  45. Steve R on November 17, 2008 at 1:35 p.m.

I always make sure to date my DVD's, and write a sentence or 2 on what it's about....

  46. Erin A on November 17, 2008 at 1:35 p.m.

We always have big gatherings for the holidays and I try to get as many pictures and as much video as possible. I usually like to edit the video and create 'holiday' dvd's to share with the family. I scrapbook the pictures (although that is dedicated more to our kids). I never get enough video though... this is a great giveaway! Thanks for the entry.

  47. Megan on November 17, 2008 at 1:36 p.m.

What a wonderful giveaway!! My favorite way to document is with photos....however, it would be nice to video!! Such a neat little camera!!!

  48. Lauren on November 17, 2008 at 1:39 p.m.

I think it is important to make sure that capturing the holiday moment is not getting in the way of experiencing the love, family and fun of the day!

  49. Joann on November 17, 2008 at 1:40 p.m.

I agree that the best tip is to have more than one person manning the camera. When I was young, it was always my dad so he is missing from a lot of the action. Also, always have the camera on hand but hidden from view that way you can catch those really candid moments when people don't see the camera :)

  50. susan varney on November 17, 2008 at 1:42 p.m.

take loads of pictures and make sure you put who they are and date, date, date

  51. Kellie on November 17, 2008 at 1:47 p.m.

My advice would be to ask people to take a picture of your whole family. You don't know how many pics i have of just me & my daughter, and then my husband and my daughter. We hardly have any of the 3 of us because one of us is always taking the picture!

  52. Amy Huang on November 17, 2008 at 1:58 p.m.

I make sure I tell atleast two people to capture photos throughout the day, that way if one forgets or gets caught up in the action there's a backup.

  53. Kimberly on November 17, 2008 at 1:59 p.m.

My favorite way to remember holiday memories is something my mother started when I was little - writing letters to each member of the family the day after Christmas to be opened on Christmas eve the following year. We always write what exciting presents were given, who was there, etc etc

  54. D Kasper on November 17, 2008 at 2:08 p.m.

My favorite tip for documenting holiday memories is to keep the gift tags from each present and a scrap of the wrapping paper it was in then write the date and gift on the back and put the tags and paper in a scrapbook (with photo if available).

  55. Stephanie V on November 17, 2008 at 2:18 p.m.

We take lots of pictures and order prints for our photo album immediately following the holidays. We also try to get someone else to take some family photos so everyone is in it.

  56. Barbara Baker on November 17, 2008 at 2:24 p.m.

My favorite tip to share is this:

Take as many pictures as you possibly can. You'd be amazed at how cool those "un-expected" photos remind you of events. Forget the poses; just point and click, that's what I always think!!!!
    -Barb :)

  57. Kathy Davis on November 17, 2008 at 2:25 p.m.

Commenters on this blog have unique original and informative ideas. I've learned a great deal in the last few minutes just by reading them. Thank you! My tried and true contribution is to just keep your camera close at hand at all times. When one of those priceless moments presents itself you'll be ready to record it. Thanks for the contest. Best wishes for a happy holiday season to all!

  66. Gillian on November 17, 2008 at 3:29 p.m.

Handmaking thank-you cards--everything goes out the door with an extra story to tell and we use up various craft supplies around the house.

...but also, we purchase a silver holiday bell engraved with the current year. The collection adds to our decor and the bell itself triggers memories and storytelling.

  67. Abby on November 17, 2008 at 3:31 p.m.

Make sure my husband gets his turn at the camera. There are absolutely NO pictures of me from last Christmas as he took them all!

  68. Rebecca Snodgrass on November 17, 2008 at 3:34 p.m.

I love to scrapbook all of the special moments.

  69. Ang on November 17, 2008 at 3:40 p.m.

I specifically ask a few people to take candid pictures and then share them with with everone so there are lots of pictures from different perspectives.

  70. Jamie Gold on November 17, 2008 at 3:42 p.m.

Make sure you switch on and off when it comes to WHO is taking the photos. You don't want to miss out on the fun when you are taking pictures all day long!

  71. ky2here on November 17, 2008 at 3:43 p.m.

Keep it candid. The forced staged 'waving at the camera' is boring, boring, boring. You see personality and interesting dynamics when it's unstaged.

  72. leloni on November 17, 2008 at 3:48 p.m.

always have a camera around....ya never know when there will be a memory you will want to capture

    lots of pics and scrapbooking

  74. Shilo Beedy on November 17, 2008 at 4:02 p.m.

I would say take photos and and get them printed as soon as possible. Then when you get the photos back write information on the back of each photo such as the day they were taken.Plus do some video taping to capture great moments.

  75. Carla Pullum on November 17, 2008 at 4:08 p.m.

Our family uses the digital camera to capture moments! Then we load on the computer and send to family!

  77. charline s on November 17, 2008 at 4:13 p.m.

I take lots of pics and try to write it all down once everyone has gone home in my journal.

  78. Cheryl W on November 17, 2008 at 4:13 p.m.

I like to make sure all the batteries are charged the night before a holiday event, and to pack everything up first thing in the morning so I don't forget to take it with me.

  79. Patricia Banks on November 17, 2008 at 4:32 p.m.

With 10 kids and 22 grand kids, and soon to be 4 great grand children there are so many precious moments to capture you cannot get them all. In their presence this would allow me to not miss as many.

  80. Betty King on November 17, 2008 at 4:39 p.m.

I dont pick out one certain setting. I just keep my camera with me and snap at unexpected times. This makes for candid shots that I would probley otherwise never notice. Like my two grand-boys studying the details of their Christmas gifts together, heads touching and hearts reacting.

  81. Julie on November 17, 2008 at 4:49 p.m.

I love to document holidays by scrapbooking with lots of pictures!

  82. Amanda on November 17, 2008 at 5:14 p.m.

Make sure you date the pictures also having everyone taking pictures helps too.

  83. Margaret Smith on November 17, 2008 at 5:23 p.m.

We take plenty of photo's and have them printed quickly, so as to be able to mark each one with our special thoughts and memories.

  84. Stacy on November 17, 2008 at 5:24 p.m.

Pass the camera around so everyone gets a chance to tell about their day.

  85. brandy on November 17, 2008 at 5:27 p.m.

favorite tip - use new technology. ditch the digital camera that's 5 years old. it's slow and annoying! just get a new one and snap snap snap!

  86. syeda on November 17, 2008 at 5:33 p.m.

Thank you for the awesome giveawy. I capture the holidays by taking lot of pictures and making scrapbooks. Winning the flip ultra video camera would make it so much easier for me to capture the memories of my baby son. Please pick me...

  87. Jill L on November 17, 2008 at 5:48 p.m.

Take some pictures, but also write about it. I used to be so busy taking pictures that I would miss out. Now I take some pictures so that we will always remember it, but I enjoy the moments and day. Having a little Flip Camera would be a easy way to record some of those moments.

  88. Denise Montgomery on November 17, 2008 at 6:04 p.m.

Each year I buy a new photo album and start with pictures taken in January and end it in December. That way everything is labled by year and in order that the event/picture occurred.

  89. MF on November 17, 2008 at 6:12 p.m.

Don't make the holidays all about taking pictures. Try and capture the real moments not just the staged ones. My mom always wanted pictures of everything and now most of what I remember from the holidays is taking pictures.

  90. Madonnalisa on November 17, 2008 at 6:17 p.m.

Every year we get together with my cousins and we try to take a picture of all of us standing in chronological order and there is usually something in the photo that tells you what "year/decade" it is. I guess someone could hold a sign with the year it is. We have been doing this for over 30 years and with the new generation of cousins we started putting the kids/babies in chronological order.

  91. wandermom on November 17, 2008 at 6:23 p.m.

I'm afraid I don't have a favorite way of capturing holiday moments, but I do like taking lots of photos. And I LOVE the Flip, I just don't have one of my own yet. So, watch out for diggs, stumbles, del.ic.ious bookmarks etc etc

  92. nood13s on November 17, 2008 at 6:31 p.m.

our kids will be have so much media, stills and videos of thier lives, that theyre all gonna be media studies graduates .

  93. Jennifer S. on November 17, 2008 at 6:34 p.m.

I love to take digital photos and then put them into scrapbooks. This year I might have the photos put onto a DVD. It's easy to send to relatives.

  94. Nancy on November 17, 2008 at 6:35 p.m.

Take lots and lots and lots of pictures! I also set up the video camera in the corner and just let it run to capture everyone, even me, opening presents.

  95. Nancy on November 17, 2008 at 6:36 p.m.

I posted about the giveaway on my blog - http://lifewithmyboys.wordpress.com/2...

  96. Hyphen on November 17, 2008 at 6:37 p.m.

My tip is not to get too focused on documenting it all that you're not a part of it. Far too often, I find I get great pictures, but I wasn't in on any of the action. When my kids are older, I'm glad they'll have pictures and video to look back on, but I want to make sure that they have memories of me playing alongside them, not always standing back with the camera.

So get in the center of the action and get pictures/video, but take a break to be part of it. Better yet, hand the camera off to someone else so they can document YOU playing with the kids.

  97. carol myring on November 17, 2008 at 6:41 p.m.

Scrapbooking with pictures, receipts, brochures and other odds and ends make for purfect memory lane walks. Like the time my sister and I hiked a trail in Alaska. Where a momma bear and cub had been seen earlier in the day. We had chocolate in our pockets (DUH). Our memory book showed us in a hollow tree trunk with the caption of I think I saw a bear.

  98. hazel hunt on November 17, 2008 at 6:48 p.m.

    NICE!

  99. Carol H. on November 17, 2008 at 6:50 p.m.

I think the best thing to remember is to charge your batteries ahead of time or buy enough so if your camera batteries die, you have some spare! There is nothing worse than having a cute moment unrecorded due to a dead battery!

  100. ANGELA KOHLER on November 17, 2008 at 6:56 p.m.

Just always have the camera handy and take lots and lots of pictures. Guests will get used to having it around, and you'll probably end up with at least a few good pictures.

  101. Linda Amerman on November 17, 2008 at 7:36 p.m.

Pictures, pictures and more pictures. I will easliy take 100 pictures on a holiday with the entire family. For me looking a pictures brings me back to that exact moment.

  102. Jenn S. on November 17, 2008 at 7:37 p.m.

We set up a video camera on a tripod and make sure a lot of people have cameras. This way we can pull pics from the video and from family members.

  103. Adrian Lamont on November 17, 2008 at 7:43 p.m.

I take a lot of pictures.

  104. Heather Weber on November 17, 2008 at 7:47 p.m.

Since we move a lot, we always take a family photo in front of the house with all the Christmas decorations. Sometimes we're in snow...sometimes in shorts!

  105. Mommy Musings on November 17, 2008 at 7:52 p.m.

My favorite way to document holiday memories is by making photo books...they look great and there are always coupon codes making these inexpensive was to preserve memories.

  106. rachael on November 17, 2008 at 8 p.m.

i love to take pictures and video, which i think capture memories beautifully, but nothing is better than writing down the impression a particular holiday experience left on you. it kind of adds another dimension to the memory!

  107. Tanya on November 17, 2008 at 8:04 p.m.

ALOT of pictures. They always help me to remember the moment. They are so fun to look back on.

  108. Julie on November 17, 2008 at 8:05 p.m.

Lots of people taking tons of pics...the more the better. You never know who is gonna get the best shot of a kiddo's happy face upon opening a wished for gift!!

  109. Scotti on November 17, 2008 at 8:07 p.m.

Wish I had some great tip - but we're not great at documenting. Need to be better!

  110. Jacob LaFountaine on November 17, 2008 at 8:08 p.m.

Don't stick a camera in anyone's face. Just be natural and let things flow.

  111. Ginny on November 17, 2008 at 8:14 p.m.

Well being a scrapbooker, I love getting tons of pictures & video. There have been times when I have a camera in one hand & a video camera in another. My tip though is don't stress about that perfect picture/video. Make sure to enjoy the holiday, it happens so quick!

Also get some pics & videos before Christmas day & after instead of worrying so much about the actual moment.

I have been known to make my kids act surprised again if I miss a photo though, lol.

  112. christopher h on November 17, 2008 at 8:26 p.m.

    always keep your camera charged

  113. Lisa L. on November 17, 2008 at 8:32 p.m.

Take random picks all through the evening.

  114. Kimie on November 17, 2008 at 8:37 p.m.

My favorite tip is to take our photo christmas card and write a few of the most memorable holiday moments on the back, then the card goes in the scrapbook.

  115. Barbara McCrea on November 17, 2008 at 8:50 p.m.

Take lots of pictures, I do quite a bit of scrapbooking too, that way all the precious memories are safe.

  116. Denise M on November 17, 2008 at 9:12 p.m.

I always take a group picture of all the kids in the family. It's cool to go back through the years and see how they grew, and the new additions..

  117. connie s. on November 17, 2008 at 9:19 p.m.

My ornaments with your child every year!!

I don't have a tip per se, but I just take tons of pictures.

  119. Nancy J on November 17, 2008 at 9:41 p.m.

When documenting family memories my tip is keep those videos and pics candid and natural..leave the posing for professional pics

  120. Brooke D. on November 17, 2008 at 9:53 p.m.

My favorite way on documenting family holidays is Scrapbooking with tons of pictures! It can all be done after it is over and you can take your time and be creative! Please count me in this would be awesome!

    Have a lovely night!

    ;-) Brooke

  121. Marcia S on November 17, 2008 at 9:58 p.m.

Various family members take tons of digital pictures and we burn them all to a disc, which can be copied and shared with all. With the Flip video camera we could add video to our discs.

  122. Hayley G. on November 17, 2008 at 10:01 p.m.

I always try to get as many candids as possible- they always turn out to be our favorite pictures. Also- ask the kids to take some pictures: they get people to relax and sometimes end up with great (if somewhat crooked) photos!

  123. Erica C. on November 17, 2008 at 10:17 p.m.

pictures are always great...but also just writing a little journal of how you felt that day really helps bring up good memories

  124. Alyce on November 17, 2008 at 10:38 p.m.

My tip is to share the job around so that everyone gets to be in the video. We have so many videos that my dad took, and you get to hear his voice, but not see his face. I like to be able to see how everyone changes over the years.

  128. Cynthia McCoy on November 18, 2008 at 12:09 a.m.

i use a bounce flash to minimize red eye for indoor pix. great for parties, especially if people have been drinking and their pupils are dialated at all. :D

  129. mitchell h on November 18, 2008 at 12:32 a.m.

We hire a professional sketch artist to draw each event down - much like those sketch artists do in court when the media is not allowed. We find this to be a more personal, yet still leaves room for the imagination. Oh yeah, and we also take tons of pics and video recordings. haha.

  130. Theresa Jenkins on November 18, 2008 at 12:51 a.m.

1st you have to take the picture so have your camera with your and charged and film or room on your card.afterwards date everything and if you have time put NAMEs to the faces

  131. Len Massey on November 18, 2008 at 12:58 a.m.

For documenting holiday memories remember to take lot of PICTURES...PICTURES...PICTURES. Even if they try to hide and hate their picture taken, snap 'em anyway.

  132. Carol Lawrence on November 18, 2008 at 1:20 a.m.

We take lots of pictures as the grandkids open thier presents. After deleting pictures I never remember to set the date which is important.

  133. Samantha Bryant on November 18, 2008 at 1:48 a.m.

I like to give the camcorder to everyone so they can show their individual views of the holidays.

    Lots of digital pictures.

  136. Kristi C on November 18, 2008 at 3:10 a.m.

My best tip is to make sure the batteries are fully charged.

  137. Cynthia C on November 18, 2008 at 3:52 a.m.

Right after the event, reserve some time to review the pictures and print the ones you want to save. Lots of good memories get lost to procrastination.

  138. Heather S on November 18, 2008 at 4:16 a.m.

Use a good digital camera and download the pics to your computer right away. I also deleted bad pics immediately so they are not cluttering up my desktop.

  139. craig allen wimmer on November 18, 2008 at 5:32 a.m.

OVER our christmas i usually buy a disposable camera just totake pictures we never used a video camera

  140. Fae Funmi on November 18, 2008 at 5:32 a.m.

    Good morning Debbie
    My tips are these:
I always set the date. This helps when we watch the vids bc some1 alwasy asks "when was this?".

I have a journal & I make a note when we record and when we takes pics. When we develop pics I go back thru my journal and write on the back of the pic.

    Thx for this contest!

  141. Margaret on November 18, 2008 at 5:36 a.m.

My tip is to not try so hard to take posed pictures. The best ones are always those that are taken during a spontaneous moment, often when the subjects aren't even looking at the camera.

  142. amanda @ www.kiddio.org on November 18, 2008 at 5:38 a.m.

What a fun giveaway! We like to set up our video camera on a tripod and leave it running. It leaves us hands-free and you get such a unique picture of what was *really* going on that day :)

For our fall family portrait we set up a big pile of leaves and our digital SLR on a tripod, then use the remote control to take pictures of ourselves playing, throwing leaves, posing, jumping, etc. We get some great shots!

    Thanks!

  143. amanda @ www.kiddio.org on November 18, 2008 at 5:38 a.m.

Oh, and I stumbled your post! (my name is Kiddio :)

  144. Jamie Davis on November 18, 2008 at 6:08 a.m.

My tip: Turn off the flash some of the time. Pictures shot with a flash tend to look harsh. Without the flash, pictures have a warm glow from the tungsten lighting.

  145. Robin Stephens on November 18, 2008 at 6:12 a.m.

My favorite holiday video/pic tips are to make sure you get a picture of the tree, and one of the tree surrounded by the gifts, before the opening occurs. And instead of trying to make it something that it's not, just record. Don't worry about getting everything, just have a great time.

  146. crystal adkins on November 18, 2008 at 6:26 a.m.

I'm a picture aholic! I take sooo many pictures it's not funny! I hate lugging around our vid. camera so this small compact one would be amazing! Please choose me to win :) Thank you!!

Also, you asked for my tip on preserving family memories... I too am a scrapbooker! I love to document the everyday in our scrapbooks as well as the special events. I don't own a video camera, so it's all about the still photos for me. I tend to like to get those goofy moment photos, and encourage the kids to be silly in order to get a GOOD photo on the next round!!

    PICK US!!! ;)

  168. Elena on November 18, 2008 at 8:37 a.m.

Don't forget the camera! And if you bring it, don't forget to use it! I'm really bad about getting caught up in the moment and forgetting to take pictures. Thanks for the contest!

I love taking pictures of the kids when they are not posed. I get the best shots that way. Of course we still take lots of posed, smiley pics, especially on Christmas morning.

  176. Jesica on November 18, 2008 at 10:08 a.m.

I make Daddy do the videos. I'm always in charge of the still camera, which means I'm never in any of the pictures. Just to even things out, he does the videos and he's not in those.

    Works for us! :)

  177. Lorraine on November 18, 2008 at 10:16 a.m.

Lots of photos and back them up on a CD.

  178. Brandy on November 18, 2008 at 10:31 a.m.

We don't own a video camera but we always bring our digital camera with us on the holidays. My tip...make sure it's charged the night before! Nothing worse than seeing that "low battery" light in the middle of a great picture.

  181. Monique Rizzo on November 18, 2008 at 10:45 a.m.

We take a ton of pictures, but hardly any posed. We love the natural expressions.

I have NEVER had a nice camera since I was a kid and then 110mm was only out. Now I have two daughters 6 & 16 months, and we make good memories from our old Christmas cards and color Christmas pages and hang them around. It would be nice to have a camera one day for these unforgettable memories.

  202. Erin on November 18, 2008 at 2:57 p.m.

Take photos of everything so you can tell a fun story later!

  203. Susan K. on November 18, 2008 at 3:45 p.m.

Have your camera ready at all times. The greatest moments take you by surprise.

  204. Katherine D. on November 18, 2008 at 3:54 p.m.

My favorite tip for documenting holiday memories is to bring a few disposable cameras. Besides whatever you capture, others can take their own candid shots and won't be afraid to break a camera or worry about costs. Then you take them and get them all developed and...great memories from everyone involved!

  205. Sonya Sparks on November 18, 2008 at 4:07 p.m.

We just take a lot of pictures. I'm technology challenged. Maybe I'll win and I can learn how to use this.

  206. Regina B on November 18, 2008 at 4:38 p.m.

I have a pile of mementos (random scraps of paper from events or from cards), and I have the best intention to actually make a scrapbook! I never have, though, and so pictures on the digital camera then transferred to our computer is all that generally gets done.

  207. Katharine on November 18, 2008 at 4:56 p.m.

My best tip is to film everyone while they are doing what they do naturally. My parents always used to line us up and bark orders like directors of a movie. The films are pathetic to watch now, we look like trained dogs. Let the kids run around and rip into thing, get messy and be kids, those are the memories you will cherish some day.

  208. Kristen on November 18, 2008 at 4:58 p.m.

My tip, is to make sure the batteries are charged!! I hate when I'm taking pictures and I see my battery warning flashing at me.. ugh! This is a great giveaway!! :)

I keep scrapbooks, and include photos, written memories, and holiday cards.

  210. Karen on November 18, 2008 at 5:04 p.m.

Here's a tip: Make sure that whoever is usually the one responsible for taking videos of holiday fun gets a break now and then -- and gets a chance to actually appear in a video once in a while too!

  211. Tracy on November 18, 2008 at 5:16 p.m.

I love holiday photo ornaments for family, especially taking pictures during our annual tree trimming parties and turning those into photo ornaments!

  212. jenna on November 18, 2008 at 5:25 p.m.

My tip for capturing holiday memories is to have extra batteries for your camera ready. Have the battery charger out and ready to go, that way you don't get caught without your camera. Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite tip is to take candid shots during the holidays instead of just posed shots. The candid shots often turn out much better and capture more memories in the long run.

  215. Kari A. on November 18, 2008 at 5:38 p.m.

Since the introduction of the digital camera (thank GOD) we take a picture of every kid opening every present with the name of the giver in each picture. This way I can know who gave what to whom, who belongs to what gift and can easily write out thank you notes... now I know that this isn't exactly what you were looking for but it does help us remember the important part of the holidays and that is giving thanks for all our blessings.

  216. Megret on November 18, 2008 at 5:47 p.m.

Digital pics means more taken and less chance of ending up with bad photos (no worries about what develops). AND, we take lots of candid shots -- we treasure those more than the staged, posed photos when it's all said and done.

Thanks! This would be ultra cool to win.

Point the camara at the table so that everyone is in the shot and just let it run through the meal. Folks forget its there and you can capture some wonderful spontainous moments.

  221. cgogis on November 18, 2008 at 6:07 p.m.

I love to take pictures of everything regarding the holidays! Then make a fun book!

  222. Dee on November 18, 2008 at 6:17 p.m.

My tip: purchase a backup battery so you always have one charged.

  223. Nadia on November 18, 2008 at 6:25 p.m.

Take lots of pics, capture special moments on video camera if you have one. And if your kids are old enough to keep journals, have them write what they saw and did every night before bed.

  224. Kimberly on November 18, 2008 at 6:25 p.m.

I do digital scrapbooking. Since all my pictures are taken on the digital camera I have them all on hand in my computer. I have software that allows me to crop, recolor, resize and do what I need to do to pictures. I then either purchase digital scrapbook kits or elements or create my own and then make digital scrapbook pages that I print out as well as e-mail to family and friends.

Thank you for an awesome giveaway!

  225. lolly on November 18, 2008 at 6:32 p.m.

My favorite tip is to have multiple people taking pictures. That way you are sure to get a few good ones!

  226. Kerry on November 18, 2008 at 6:45 p.m.

We only see our extended family a couple of times a year, so documenting the holidays is so important when we are with them. I keep my camera and video camera in my diaper bag at all times during the holidays. Each year I take all of the holiday photos and put them together into a photo book for myself and relatives. It is a great way to keep your pics together and for the kids to see themselves grow from year to year.

  227. Mike on November 18, 2008 at 6:49 p.m.

I like to take many, many pictures while on vacation but it would be wonderful to have a nice compact video camera to capture some of these things.

  228. Sarah on November 18, 2008 at 6:52 p.m.

Always keep the camera handy, especially for the day-to-day moments. Baking Holiday cookies, wrapping presents for other people...these are all things that should be documented!

  229. Angela on November 18, 2008 at 6:55 p.m.

I would recommend taking both still pictures and videos. Get people singing carols. Great giveaway!

  231. Kendra Cleavenger on November 18, 2008 at 7:13 p.m.

I always take lots of pictures and let someone else run the video camera.

  232. Susan H. on November 18, 2008 at 7:14 p.m.

My all time favorite tip for capturing the holidays is just shoot and don't stop. Some of the best photos and videos are when people are being themselves and not posing. You get the most angelic photos of your children if they don't know you're pointing a camera/video at them. Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  233. Heather on November 18, 2008 at 7:15 p.m.

Tip; Take LOTS of pictures. Digital photography is forgiving, you can take two dozen pictures of the same moment and atleast one will be adorable!

  234. Peter on November 18, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.

As noted above - take lots of pictures. Keep the battery charged for the camera and have lots of space on the storage card. Ideally, have a spare battery handy. The moment the camera is somewhere else, you'll miss a great shot. Having a quick camera helps a lot as well - one that takes 5-10 seconds to start up makes for a lot of missed opportunities.

Afterwards, share with family using some photo-sharing site (we like Picasa's online service).

  235. Peter on November 18, 2008 at 7:31 p.m.

    Stumbled this under "paschott". :-)

Thank you for the opportunity to win.

i like taking a christmas looking photo of all my friends homes during the holidays and making a christmas card for them the following year, they are so shocked!

  237. Christina W. on November 18, 2008 at 7:35 p.m.

I know that it's traditional to get a picture of all the kids in front of the tree, but having watched my daughter throw the mother of all tantrums post-gift-opening excitement (and I later found out post-See's chocolate ball, given to her by my brother on the sly) posed pictures are rarely worth the trouble. I prefer to set my camera for indoor shooting, and then just snapping away: during stockings, breakfast, and the great unwrapping extravaganza. (With five kids and eight grandkids, my mom's house is pure, unadulterated chaos.) I wait until the lull between cleaning up after breakfast and dinner prep to delete all the ones that didn't turn out well. Then I ask one of my siblings to take some pics of me so I can say that I was there, too!

  238. Jess on November 18, 2008 at 7:44 p.m.

My tip? Whoever's taking pictures needs to start out with a camera in hand. That way if something happens they're ready instead of fumbling in their bag.

  239. Tabby on November 18, 2008 at 7:45 p.m.

Best tip I can give is to keep a camera on you at all times! It figures that my little guy does the cutest things when I don't have a camera close.

  240. Shay on November 18, 2008 at 8:15 p.m.

Lately, I have been taking digital photos and uploading them into PhotoStory 3 to make videos....you can add text, music and even a fade. It's really neat.

  241. Jerry Przybylski on November 18, 2008 at 8:45 p.m.

We take pictures and then take them to Walmart and have them put on coffee cups and mouse pads. We don't get to see one another very often so this way we can see the pictures everyday.

  242. Sara G on November 18, 2008 at 8:47 p.m.

We ALWAYS have the camera handy and we make sure batteries are charged with lots of memory available. THat way we are ready for any moment.

  243. Mandee on November 18, 2008 at 8:55 p.m.

We always have our camera with us and capture everything, then of course share the pictures with family and friends. I would love to have a video camera to help with this!

My fav. tip for capturing holiday moments is letting all the kids have a turn with the camera. Its amazing the things they catch!

  246. Gudrun on November 18, 2008 at 9:04 p.m.

it is kind of silly, but we try to have a photo taken every year with our dog and Santa. Usually, it is part of fundraiser for the local shelter. And sometimes we stick the kids in there too. It is great to look back and see how the dog (well, and the kids too!) has changed...

  247. Meg T on November 18, 2008 at 9:10 p.m.

I upload pics/video to an internet site as soon as possible to keep them a bit more safe and to share them with those that were there! Thanks!!

  249. dewey1973 on November 18, 2008 at 9:29 p.m.

Here is an idea. Have your adult family members (especially grandparents) tell stories of their all-time favorite holiday presents.

  250. Lori Z. on November 18, 2008 at 9:35 p.m.

I love to be prepared, make sure that I have enough snacks, because I'm really not above bribing them to stay in the picture or smile. I'm quite the mom...

  251. Nathan on November 18, 2008 at 9:38 p.m.

I love to video my 2 yr. old nephew!

  252. Kate Etue on November 18, 2008 at 9:39 p.m.

My favorite tip is to take short clips--you're more likely to watch a montage of short clips than an hour and a half of people opening presents.

Lots of Pics and scrapbooking :o)

  255. Casey H on November 18, 2008 at 10:25 p.m.

My favorite tip for documenting the holidays is to assign each person a part of the day where they are in charge of the camera. That way there isnt just one person left out of all the pictures because they are the picture-taker.

  256. Cherie Robinson on November 18, 2008 at 10:56 p.m.

My tip is to have more than 1 person taking pictures. That way the picture taker isn't always left out of the photos. With several people taking pictures there's a better chance of catching everything that's important.

  257. kristi blackstone on November 18, 2008 at 11 p.m.

I don't waste the time taking pics of unopening every gift, come on, you'll look at allll those later! lol

  258. Megan on November 18, 2008 at 11:31 p.m.

Let kids take pictures - most are random but some are darling and gives you a whole different angle.

  259. Joan on November 18, 2008 at 11:51 p.m.

I take pictures at our holiday open-house. I use the best ones and print them in sepia tone. I have a 2x3 rubber stamp that looks like an elaborate frame. I gold emboss the ink and make ornaments for our family tree. Every year it grows more full and we have great reminders of our friends and family that are no longer able to join us at Christmas.

  260. David Bertolo on November 18, 2008 at 11:53 p.m.

Make sure you take the lens cap off.

  261. Jennifer Johnson on November 18, 2008 at 11:55 p.m.

My tip is to have several disposable cameras around for people to be able to just pick one up and use when they see an awesome picture. I also like to send my kids around with a digital camera to capture people's smiles. They can get shots that I can't.

  264. Amy B. on November 19, 2008 at 12:29 a.m.

I would have to say that you want to keep the camera with you at all times because it's always the times when you don't think you'd need it that the most precious memories happen. Like when they say cute stuff or dad and kids just having a ball in the hotel room.

  265. Kelly on November 19, 2008 at 1:01 a.m.

One thing I like to do after all the madness is over is take pictures - separately - of each gift and record who each gift is from. Before digital, this would have been cost prohibitive, but now, it's easy.

  266. BlondeBlogger on November 19, 2008 at 2:01 a.m.

I have been dying for one of these! My best tip would be to catch everyone at their most natural state, and that means even when the kids are screaming and having a meltdown. :) IMO, those real moments are the ones that will make you laugh way down the road. Better to be real than to have everyone stiff and putting fake smiles on. Just sneak around the room and catch them during random moments of laughter, surprise, joy, and even the tears! :)

  267. Alicyn on November 19, 2008 at 3:40 a.m.

Good tips. This is only my second Christmas with my son around, so I am no expert yet. I've just been taking a lot of pics!

  268. crystal on November 19, 2008 at 4:16 a.m.

I was always the granddaughter that took pictures. I loved to have my camera and i always had good shots of my pics with my grandparents, they are over 80!!!
Then i got my digital...my grandma has complained that they never saw "real"pictures. My camera wasnt working for the last seasons month so i told her that i owe her. I STILL LOVE MAKING PICTURES TO SHARE!!!BUT SOMETIMES WE GET SPOILED BECAUSE OF THE COMPUTER ACCESS...My present to them is some pics that they havent seen, since that little camera screen...Yes Grandma there is such thing as real pictures...:)

  269. Michelle J on November 19, 2008 at 4:59 a.m.

I'm a scrapbooker so I carry a camera with me at all times. I like to take candid pictures of the event. At the ended of a day, i jot down some stories about what took place and file them. That way when I go to do the pages, I have stuff to draw upon for my journaling.

  270. Gina on November 19, 2008 at 5:09 a.m.

My Holiday Tip is to ALWAYS have that camera with you. Where ever you go, whom ever you're going to be around. That's how you're going to catch the best Holiday moments ever!

  271. Margie on November 19, 2008 at 5:14 a.m.

My tip is that sometimes just putting the camera in an inconspicuous spot and letting it roll is the best way to capture some pretty funny moments (though it may take some editing later : ). Thanks for the chance!

  272. JOYCE on November 19, 2008 at 5:27 a.m.

We always make an effort to see those we care about, even if it means driving from house to house. We don't do it all in one day, but we'll take a couple days. We catch up...share presents...take pictures...enjoy the moment.

  273. Renee on November 19, 2008 at 5:29 a.m.

I like to give hubby the video camera and I do the gifts and trash pickup. We have three and it is pretty peaceful here!

Have your camera and video recorder close by so you can catch all the special moments.

  275. anne s. on November 19, 2008 at 5:37 a.m.

To take video and still photos, not just on Christmas morning but throughout the holiday season! I would LOVE to win. Thank you.

  277. Rebecca Buffington on November 19, 2008 at 5:38 a.m.

During the year I buy those single use cameras on sale . I get as many as I can and give them out Christmas morning. We always get copies of the pictures everyone takes . Then you make cute scrapbooks out of them. The memories last a lifetime!

  278. Maggie on November 19, 2008 at 5:40 a.m.

We take lots of pics and video. I already enjoy seeing my little girl's first Christmas, and it hasn't even been two years!

  279. Tami on November 19, 2008 at 5:41 a.m.

We take lots of pictures. I also like to get pictures of my kids (over a few years) at the same age in the same hand-me-down holiday outfit. We have three (soon to be four) kids. It's a nice way to look back over the years.

  280. Tina on November 19, 2008 at 5:44 a.m.

I love to video my kids opening presents!

  281. Shasta on November 19, 2008 at 5:55 a.m.

I just take TONS of pictures of everything that goes on! Our video camera broke when my oldest was a baby so the last video I have is his first Christmas. I'd love to win this so I could start taping all of my boy's Christmas's! Thanks for the chance to win!

  282. Jenny on November 19, 2008 at 6 a.m.

I would say to have the camera out and ready to catch candids. I try to take several shots of something so I can make a scrapbook page with a few images of the same thing. Or maybe take a shot of each kid doing the same activity and group them together for a cute page or couple page spread.
    -Jenny-

  283. Amy on November 19, 2008 at 6:15 a.m.

My tip is to worry more about enjoying the moment than documenting it. You don't want to miss your child's Christmas because you're behind a camera. You don't want to forget what they look like without a lens!!

We set up a video camera in the corner and forget about it.

    Amy @ http://prettybabies.blogspot.com

  284. Tracey on November 19, 2008 at 6:31 a.m.

Don't forget about a good old fashioned journal. There's nothing like the written word -- like a well crafted novel, a written description of all the sights, sounds and smells of the holidays are captured far beyond what a picture can tell. Combined together, the memories are priceless!

  285. Elisa on November 19, 2008 at 6:59 a.m.

I am bad at picture taking. So I just take a bunch and hope a few come out looking decent.

  286. amy purple on November 19, 2008 at 7:01 a.m.

I think doing variations on traditions each year is a great way to really make the holidays stand out. Then you could photograph each one each year and put it in a scrapbook to reflect on over the years. thanks for the chance!

  287. tuesday on November 19, 2008 at 7:05 a.m.

I love to take lots of pictures of the holidays and video. We try and tape the kids opening thisr gifts every year and it makes a great keepsake.

  288. Sierra Martin on November 19, 2008 at 7:19 a.m.

We take pictures of the kids with the things that they received from relatives and immediately send them out to relatives on our cellphones. This way they can see the kids enjoying their presents on christmas morning.

  289. Michelle on November 19, 2008 at 7:21 a.m.

We always take a family picture in front of the tree, it is one of the only times of the year we are altogether.

  290. Lachelle Bodine on November 19, 2008 at 7:24 a.m.

My husband is in charge of the video camera and I'm in charge of the digital camera. Our big problem is trying to remember to take the video camera with us on vacation!

  291. Tonia Rowe on November 19, 2008 at 7:32 a.m.

Last year my son (age 9) decided to be in charge of the video camera during family events. At first I fought the idea, but after looking at the results I decided that the moments he captured were better than mine!

  292. Bridget on November 19, 2008 at 8:02 a.m.

  293. Staci J. on November 19, 2008 at 8:04 a.m.

Scrapbooking has energized my kids picture taking.

  295. Alexander Z on November 19, 2008 at 8:13 a.m.

Make a special Christmas scrapbook that only comes out once a year with the decorations and is forgotten in storage the rest of the year - this means being quick with new photos and ideas for the scrapbook. Get the whole family involved and make it a new Christmas tradition of organizing your recent memories before putting everything away for the year. The other half of this new tradition, of course, is re-discovering and sharing those memories it the following year when the decorations come back out. We did something like this with my family photo albums when I was a kid and I can attest with personal experience that it builds up the anticipation and excitement of Christmas.

I LOVE documenting family memories on my blog! I've tried scrap-booking and I just don't have the patience to sit down and do all that fancy stuff to make it look good, and with a photo album, you have to describe each photo's information. If I put it on my blog and write about it, I'M DONE! Love it!

  321. Vicki B. on November 19, 2008 at 2:57 p.m.

Each year, family members write down (on little pieces of paper) several things they love about the other family members. It's fun to watch the handwriting change over the years, along with the statements themselves. These pieces of paper are then placed in that year's scrapbook, along with the holiday pictures. Great memories!

  322. Douglas on November 19, 2008 at 3:15 p.m.

I like to catch people when they don't think you're filming them!

Everyone will remember the talk around the dinner table (or lack-thereof, depending on how good the food is!) and the oooh's and ahhh's as you unwrap presents. Focus on the softer moments in between those times. Record a conversation between aunts and cousins who have not seen each other since last year. Take a trip to the corner store for some eggnog with your uncle and get something unexpected out of him. Things like that are what make you giggle or cringe when you think of loved ones.

My best tip: Have hubby take picture!

  335. Fran on November 19, 2008 at 5:11 p.m.

I download all photos to the computer right away. I give it a name and date (like Christmas 2008). I order favorite prints and back the rest on a cd/dvd in case the computer crashes.

  336. Terri Donnelly on November 19, 2008 at 5:15 p.m.

Just take a picture of the kids when they don't know it otherwise they are stiff and have goofy smiles.

  337. Jamie Z on November 19, 2008 at 5:24 p.m.

I like to have a bound book made of all the holiday fun. York photo is a great site where you can create your own memory books. We do it for all vacations and holidays.

  338. EJ Trinidad on November 19, 2008 at 6:11 p.m.

My best tip would be to not talk to people while filming - your voice is always louder and it somewhat ruins the vibe of the video! Just catch everyone else in the moment, don't make it happen, let it happen.

  339. Sammie Pucci on November 19, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

We make sure the date option is on when we take our holiday photos. We then upload them to our computer and then produce hard copy books. The kids get to write any sayings they would like to have printed in the book or add any other designs or drawings. They make for wonderful keepsakes!

  340. Sammie Pucci on November 19, 2008 at 6:33 p.m.

I love to record those times cause people look at us like we are crazy and the kids think it is so funny

I make a scrapbook for each Christmas. After dinner, we look through the past years, and its always a lot of fun.

Thanks for the great giveaway....we don't have a camcorder and I'd love to have some video of my kids.

  343. LisaW on November 19, 2008 at 7:01 p.m.

  344. MaryBeth I on November 19, 2008 at 8:07 p.m.

I am so bad about taking pictures / videos. I find that when the kids are not paying attention the pictures come out best

  345. SJ on November 19, 2008 at 8:07 p.m.

My tip on documenting holidays is to take TONS of photos, and then make a scrapbook!

  346. Angel on November 19, 2008 at 8:08 p.m.

My tip: Let the kids take some photos. I find their photos are more "honest" and focus more on the people where as adults like to get the right scenery, the right lights etc. and they miss the moment. Kids capture the moment.

  347. Deanne on November 19, 2008 at 8:33 p.m.

Make sure you charge the batteries in advance, bring extra tapes and have others take pictures/video of you as well. Even if you don't like getting your picture taken, you'll appreciate it later or at least your kids will!

  348. Cori Westphal on November 19, 2008 at 10:19 p.m.

I like to walk around the area where gifts will be opened long before the festivites start. That way I can set the lighting on the camera without missing a few good shots later on. Thanks!

  349. Cindy Phillips on November 19, 2008 at 10:24 p.m.

I wish I could say I've done some super creative thing to preserve holiday memories but I haven't. I do love to take photos though. And I love looking at all the photos I've taken by putting them up on the TV and watching them with my family. Thanks for the chance to win this camcorder, it would be so much fun to watch family videos.

  350. Whitney on November 19, 2008 at 10:31 p.m.

My favorite tip is to take turns with your spouse so that you too can be in some pictures/video-- not just the voice behind the camera...

  351. Kirsten on November 20, 2008 at 12:13 a.m.

We have several cameras available and laying around. If you see something funny, cute, whatever it may be.....grab the camera and take a picture!

  352. Clinton Robertson on November 20, 2008 at 1:24 a.m.

Take lots and lots of pics then pick out the best and trash the rest.

  353. holly on November 20, 2008 at 5:09 a.m.

My favorite tip is for those of us who are NOT good at documentation. Instead of getting overwhelmed with hundreds of pictures, choose a few good ones from the trip to print. crop and edit them to make them fabulous, then you can frame or scrapbook them to cherish your memories instead of stuffing a big stack of pics in a box somewhere.

  354. Martha H. on November 20, 2008 at 5:20 a.m.

Make sure you have extra batteries.

  355. Karen P on November 20, 2008 at 5:38 a.m.

  358. Cassie on November 20, 2008 at 7:31 a.m.

My best tip is to make sure you note which identical twin is wearing which outfit. In the early days we would always have one on the right and one on the left but we can't make them stay put anymore.

  359. holly on November 20, 2008 at 7:42 a.m.

i always take lots of pictures and just scrapbook them with captions (thank u for this giveaway)

  360. Molly on November 20, 2008 at 7:52 a.m.

I agree with Whitney- most of my Holiday pictures just have either me or my husband, depending on who has the camera that year. We will start splitting the picture taking so the whole family can be documented!

  361. Arena Thompson on November 20, 2008 at 8:23 a.m.

Take turns video recording. It really sucks to look back on videos and not see yourself because you were the camerawoman :D. Of course I have this issue taking still photos too, lol.

  362. bloggingmom67 on November 20, 2008 at 8:39 a.m.

My favorite tip for documenting the holidays is to keep the camerea (and video camera if I win it) handy all the time.

The best shots comes at unexpected moments -- when you're making cookies and your 6-year-old covers herself in flour -- not at the moments when you expect a memory worth capturing.

Please enter me in this great contest.

  363. Hank on November 20, 2008 at 9:06 a.m.

Give disposables to several people in the house or at the get together. Sometimes you'll get great different angles of the same thing! Plus, this way you'll actually be able to be in more than one place at a time!

  366. karissa on November 20, 2008 at 9:18 a.m.

I love to give the kids disposable cameras. they always seems to get some great pics. and when the adults are too focused on pictures, well it takes the fun out of it!
now getting a few good moments is one thing, but the whole party NO WAY!

thanks so much for the aweesome chance!

  367. Karen on November 20, 2008 at 10:03 a.m.

My favorite tip is to set the camcorder up on the tripod, aim it at the tree and press record. :)

  368. Alice Hohl on November 20, 2008 at 10:28 a.m.

Tip: Get close! The best video shots need the microphone close to the speaker and are best when you can see facial expression. It's better to cut off a bit of someone's hair or even the edge of their face if you can see into their eyes.
Also get Sony Movie Maker to avoid editing frustrations.

Let everyone have a chance with the camera, and capture every moment you can. Make sure you film the kids just being kids, it makes great for laughs later on.

  370. Mandie P. on November 20, 2008 at 10:57 a.m.

My best holiday memory keeper tip is to take turns being the camera-man (or woman) so you don't look at the footage later on and say "was Dad (or Mom) there that year?"

  371. Benga on November 20, 2008 at 11:41 a.m.

My best advice is to get down on the kids/family members level when shooting photos or video...documenting those expressions when playing and opening and thanking each other are the best to capture for eternity; most meaningful photographs/video are are the unexpected ones.

  372. Danielle on November 20, 2008 at 11:45 a.m.

I like to catch people offguard, when they are laughing, hugging, dancing, arguing..haha.It makes for better pictures when they are not posed or staged.

My holiday documenting tip - don't forget to charge the video camera batteries! We forgot last year and only got 30 minutes worth which was a bummer.

    video camera

  375. Dani S on November 20, 2008 at 1:11 p.m.

My favorite tip - make sure you are in some of the photos too! I'm always the one behind the camera and camcorder. One day, I was looking at my son's photo album, and realized that there were only 3 photos of B and I in the entire album! Now, I make sure to pass the camera off to my husband or the grandparents so that B can have photo memories of his mom.

  376. Christy Broyles on November 20, 2008 at 2:18 p.m.

My tip is to take tons of photos and you will get some good ones.

my holiday photo documenting tip - as a parent, i've learned to get DOWN on the floor, to where the kids are. you get so much better photos - can actually see into their eyes, and get their perspective. the phtoos always turn out so wonderfully!

  378. Jennifer on November 20, 2008 at 3:22 p.m.

PREPARE TO HAVE FUN!!!! HOLIDAYS AND VACATIONS MOMENTS ARE SO SPECIAL MEMORIES. YOU SHOULD GET READY PLACING TOGETHER YOUR CAMERAS WITH YOUR BATTERIES, CHARGERS, TAPES, AND A MARKER IN A SPECIAL BAG OR LUGAGGE PIECE. AS SOON AS THE TAPE IS FULL YOU SHOULD WRITE DOWN THE MAIN CONTENTS (i.e. dinner with grandma Lola, fun under the rain, and cookies-and-cousins). CAPTURES THOSE MOMENTS YOUR FAMILY ENJOYS. AFTER THE CELEBRATIONS OR TRIPS, MAKE A TIME (ASAP) TO UPLOAD YOUR PICTURES TO CD'S. PRINT YOUR FAVORITES AND SHARE THEM. PLACE THEM IN FRAMES, SCRAPBOOKS OR SEND THEM TO YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AS A THANK YOU KEEPSAKE.

  381. Melissa D on November 20, 2008 at 4:37 p.m.

In addition to everyone taking photos on Christmas morning, we also use a tape recorder to record the little ones' voices. It is great to play these back when they grow up and they can listen to their "speech" when they were small.

  403. Barbara on November 21, 2008 at 5:01 a.m.

I try to video at least the major moments...and then edit everything into a DVD since our family all live far away. And someday I'll get prints of the 4000 pictures sitting in iPhoto (I hope!)

  404. Lisa on November 21, 2008 at 5:37 a.m.

I think having one person run the camera (expect for getting them in pics too). This way you don't have to many of the same people. Everyone soon gets used to the one with the camera and you get more realistic memories instead of staged pics. I also like to get a picture of everyone in front of my christmas tree. We get a portrait style picture of each family then email them to everone. It makes printing cost so much easier. They also have a copy so if they lose the printed one they have a back up.

  407. Donna on November 21, 2008 at 6:23 a.m.

my basic tip is to remember to bring my camera

  410. rachelle on November 21, 2008 at 6:57 a.m.

I create a scrapbook page for each Birthday (for the kids), and each holiday. Each page is only a few pics, but you can create text and significant things that were fun. You can remember the gifts they got for a particular year and anything else special. Like the year our tree fell down three times (we have a picture of it in the scapbook with the kids laying on the floor next to it!

  411. Shannon on November 21, 2008 at 7:14 a.m.

My best tip = gather up items from outside in the fall to use as decorations (twigs, pinecones, etc) on the tree and mantle!

  412. Linda Stewart on November 21, 2008 at 7:29 a.m.

I take lots of pictures and then I upload to an online photo site that offers the ability to order prints and share them online with friends and family. It gives me the opportunity to access photos whenever I find time to blog, scrapbook, or journal and want to include photos.

  413. Sue R on November 21, 2008 at 7:34 a.m.

I'm always the designated photographer. My tip would be to be sure to give the camera to someone else once in awhile so when you look back at the pictures years later you'll know you were there too!

Thanks for offering such a nice prize!

My favorite way to keep holiday memories is to make a pillow out of the outfits that my kids wore that day after they grow out of them, then in the center of the pillow, I have a fabric photo made of the day. Its nice to get them out around the holiday's then the kids can see the picture and we can talk about the memories

My favorite way is to make tree ornaments with pictures of the family.

  434. amy mayer on November 21, 2008 at 5:21 p.m.

Favorite tip is to make sure the camera is VERY handy first thing Christmas morning--in fact--maybe put it out when you leave Santa cookies!

  435. Jaime Larsen on November 21, 2008 at 5:32 p.m.

I would have to say by video. Everyone of our Christmas mornings are on video so I guess that's what works for us. A new one would be great though!

  436. becky musial on November 21, 2008 at 6:12 p.m.

I always start my recording by announcing the date so that I keep track of each year. Pass the camera around so everyone is taped.

always have a camera in your hand

  439. Jessica on November 21, 2008 at 7:43 p.m.

At our house, we always forget to take pictures/video. We get so caught up in the moment the person with the camera never remembers. We figured out that if you buy a couple disposables and just put them at random spots around the room anyone who remembers or has time can take a picture of the occasion. It worked for us!

  440. David on November 21, 2008 at 8:30 p.m.

Well in my parents case, my Dad always had a video camera so everything is on video. I'm 20 so there is TONS of footage lol

  441. Fantacy on November 21, 2008 at 10:47 p.m.

:) My best tip is to get tons of candid shots so that people are more natural in them...I have even set my camera down on a counter, had the timer ready clicked it and walked away...every time I would walk by, I would push the shutter button so that no one realized I was taking pictures :)
The most important thing though is to document those moments (caption them as soon as you possibly can!). It is funny how quickly you can forget a moment...and not funny in a good way!
Thanks for the chance to win such a great giveaway!!!

I scrapbook the holidays as much as possible. This year Im doing a December daily. One page for every day in December. Just one or two pictures and a small bit of journalling about that day. I think it will turn out to be a lovely keepsake for my kids.

  447. Brenda Atwater on November 22, 2008 at 6 a.m.

Always carry a camera on you. You never know what moment you will capture.

  448. laurie on November 22, 2008 at 6:24 a.m.

I'd save the gift tags (writing which gift for each) and pack with the ornaments so the kids could look at them the next year.

  449. Pam on November 22, 2008 at 6:33 a.m.

I like to use both still and video cameras. You never know what you are going to catch with each. It helps to have other family members bring their cameras too. This will be my daughters first Christmas so the more cameras the better!!

  450. Jenny on November 22, 2008 at 6:50 a.m.

Lots of photos and after the holiday I make a little scrap book with a story of who was there and things that happened with picture included. It is a great way to document what happen on what year and who was there for it.

  451. Aletha Hendrickson on November 22, 2008 at 7:49 a.m.

I have an album for each year, and take photos year round and mount them with written annotations--sort of a photo diary.

my tip for documenting th holidays. Try not to take so many staged shots. They look exactly that....staged.

during the holidays leave disposable cameras where others can use them to document holiday fun.

make sure you take advantage of print specials and post photos on sites like snapfish and kodak for others to share and print.

i normally take a ton of pictures and scapbook them.

  460. Zipporah on November 22, 2008 at 12:06 p.m.

I'm a journal keeper, so I take pictures as well as do drawings and sketches. I like to have family members draw something in my journal as well. Then I organize them into a book (that actually looks like a book...not a scrapbook) and keep it on my coffee table so that when the family comes to visit during the year, we can look over it and laugh.

  461. April on November 22, 2008 at 12:16 p.m.

My favorite tip is to take digital photos of EVERYTHING, that way you're sure to get at least a few good ones for the scrapbook. :)

I create a little themed scrap book for each holiday event, and get the pictures printed immediately! Otherwise, you may never do it until months later.

Take pictures, and make books online like on Snapfish

  466. Kurt on November 22, 2008 at 2:25 p.m.

After a big event either use a website such as shutterfly or go to a retailer like SAMS club where you can print hardcopy of your photos - create a keepsake book so that all may enjoy the pictures.

I get my camera out and take pictures. Last year I let my 3 year old take a few pictures with help and it was great because now we have pictures from his point of view... So, this year he has his "own" camera and we shall continue with it... Then they go into a photo/scrapbook and are sent out in a huge Holiday book to family....

I download my videos and pictures and put them on my blog or facebook page. You can get really creative and it's a great way to share family photos! I also make holiday scrapbooks with photos and make famiily members their own little holiday photo album - they love it!

  480. Dawn on November 22, 2008 at 8:44 p.m.

Each of my girls, ages 4 and 5, has a digital camera. It is so much fun to see the holidays through their lens. After xmas we print out the photos and they each make a book.

  481. Robin C on November 22, 2008 at 8:46 p.m.

I take my laptop and put everyone's pictures on it then I burn a CD for everyone. This eliminates not getting pictures from people and you get them in their full size. I use a CD to distribute them so everyone gets them full size and can see everyone else's perspective.

  482. Karen S. on November 22, 2008 at 8:47 p.m.

I love the flip but don't own one of my own. What a great thing to have in time for Christmas.

  483. Monique on November 22, 2008 at 8:51 p.m.

    Take tons of pictures

  485. Aura on November 22, 2008 at 8:56 p.m.

I usually leave a camcorder playing at least one night of hannuka for the lighting and singing. My parents used to leave a taperecorder recording and now we love listening to is. We also try to make one project with handprints or silhouettes to record how much we've grown, and of course lots of pictures!

  486. flared0ne on November 22, 2008 at 9:14 p.m.

Minor issue: always have spare batteries handy, and change them as soon as you have ANY indication they're running low.

MAJOR issue -- get a lanyard that allows you to "wear" your camera like an oversized stop-watch or ID tag (one way that the "Flip" is so worthwhile, since you can carry it around your neck without developing back pains or worrying about strangulation).

Because the BEST shots you will EVER see are guaranteed to happen right after "I just put the camera down, over... there?"

  487. Karin on November 22, 2008 at 9:28 p.m.

Make sure everyone in the family knows how to use the camera! That way, the responsibility to record events is shared and no one will be consistently left out of the pictures.
Also, try to find time to take a photography class at an adult learning center or community college. You will be rewarded with much improved photos and movies!

  488. Christie on November 22, 2008 at 9:37 p.m.

You can't beat video footage and this Flip camera is perfect. It's inexpensive enough to have two and be sure a parent is recording with one and a child is recording with another. It's interesting to see the points of view from each.

  489. Rebecca on November 22, 2008 at 9:40 p.m.

Just taking lots of photos. I am not a spectacular photographer and so by taking lots of pics, I am guaranteed to get at least a few good ones :)

  491. T. Salim on November 22, 2008 at 10:15 p.m.

I think you gotta choose one way of documenting a trip and stick to it, really get into it. Like if you bring along a camera or cameras, then you gotta have a set of lenses and other equipment so you can work well with the cameras.

  492. Alexa on November 22, 2008 at 10:20 p.m.

  494. Leslie on November 23, 2008 at 2:59 a.m.

I like to hand the camera to the kids! Seeing their point of view on the holidays is really neat you get to see what is special/neat to them!

  495. Lisa on November 23, 2008 at 3:30 a.m.

I make sure that I have my camera near me at all times because no one likes to wait to have their picture taken. This way everyone looks more natural (and happy) in the pictures. :)

  496. JRG on November 23, 2008 at 3:58 a.m.

I email myself the pictures on web-based email and then "store" them there, just in case I ever lose them on the hard drive.

  497. Lynne on November 23, 2008 at 4:53 a.m.

Two years ago we started doing "interviews" on tape with family members during different holiday activities and then put them on CDs for everyone. Everyone takes turns being the interviewer, even the kids, and it preserves the memories for everyone to listen to throughout the year. They'll become even more special as the kids grow and other family members pass on.

  498. Terra on November 23, 2008 at 5:34 a.m.

  501. Brea D on November 23, 2008 at 7:29 a.m.

I use my protected zip pocket in my purse to keep my camera on me at all times, it has allowed me to get shots of some really fun random things I would have missed otherwise.

  502. Katie on November 23, 2008 at 8:51 a.m.

Highly recommend making a photo book (also called memory or story book) on-line. Very easy with options to be creative with designs and captions for the digital pictures that are just sitting idle on the computer memory. Takes little time, can create a scrap book while your little one naps, and is a great option for yourself or gifts to family.

I'm lucky I have my 13 yr. old daughter who is a smartie with cameras and computers, she helps me alot. My tip is to label and date everything, even if you think you will remember! I have some pictures, where I am not really sure which of my babies is which, they look SO much alike. (I know that sounds bad!) I remember at the time thinking, I will remember, of course, its MY baby....why yes, my hair is blonde...but that has nothing to do with it!!!

  512. Erin Daly on November 23, 2008 at 11:41 a.m.

I take a couple pictures of everyone before all the excitement starts. Then I make my camera available for anyone who wants to snap some pictures throughout the day. The kids really enjoy helping take pictures as well.

  513. joanna smith on November 23, 2008 at 11:49 a.m.

My tip for documenting holiday memories is always capture the moment when the subject matter is not aware you are doing it. Always have your camera, video, of whatever little gadget you are using ready to go so when that once in a lifetime opportunity comes you can quickly capture that moment. Don't make it obvious you are "stalking" your subject in order to get a great shop, make yourself scarce so they forget about the camera and so they can relax and be themselves. The best moments are a surprise, unexpected and candid so just always be prepared. I also always take a series of 3-4 shots in a row to make sure I didn't miss anything. I hope this helps some of you this holidays season when you are enjoying the holidays. Thank you for the opportunity to enter.

  514. Tamrah T on November 23, 2008 at 12:14 p.m.

  518. Amy L on November 23, 2008 at 1:25 p.m.

My tip for preserving holiday memories is to have give my daughter the camera and let her "go to town"! She never misses a picture, and I believe the adults are more likely to pose for a child.

  519. Laura G on November 23, 2008 at 1:45 p.m.

get close to your subjects - not so far away...we want to see people not the wall, windows, etc.

I have to do a triple check before leaving the house, just to make sure that I have a camera before we go anywhere. Having little ones, you just want to capture all those little moments that make the holidays so much more special. Take the camera out of your bag and have it on you so you are more apt to take pics. Also, make sure to ask others to take some pics of you too!

  548. Lisa G. on November 23, 2008 at 9:48 p.m.

One for my favorite ways to keep holiday memories to make photo ornaments with my chilren's pictures each year for our tree. It's so neat to see how much they change every year.

  549. Julie J. on November 23, 2008 at 10 p.m.

For years we took slides instead of pictures. This year, I wanted to convert them into pictures, but the cost was too high. So I simply displayed them on a white background and took a digital picture of them. I can them clean them up using my photo editing software. Genius! I plan to burn a disk of all our archived slides to give to the entire family this Thanksgiving!!

  550. Heather on November 23, 2008 at 10:07 p.m.

Take a ton of pictures! Sometimes the best pics are the candid moments--so just snap away!

  551. Jean D. on November 23, 2008 at 10:09 p.m.

I keep my Christmas gift list every year, then make my new list from it. I actually have a record of every gift I've given since the early 1980s. It's a great way to be sure I don't duplicate. I update the age of each child every year so I give an age-appropriate present to my nieces and nephews. Eventually, it becomes a tender diary of all those years, and of the people I love.

  552. Amy on November 23, 2008 at 10:16 p.m.

Make sure that you have plenty of batteries or that your camera is fully charged so that you'll be able to take a lot of photos.

  553. Beeb Ashcroft on November 23, 2008 at 11:28 p.m.

My best tip for documenting the holidays is to not "pose" people too much or put them on the spot - unless, of course, your family are a bunch of hams, like mine. In which case, it's more entertaining to put them on the spot. ;)Seriously, though, I think the most special moments are the ones that happen when people don't pay attention to your camera.

Thank you so much for this wonderful giveaway! If I win, this will be an amazing Christmas present for someone special on my list!

  554. Samantha Pruitt on November 24, 2008 at 12:05 a.m.

remember to always have your camera with you no matter where you go!

  555. Jay French on November 24, 2008 at 12:08 a.m.

My Dad always took the same movies in the same way. The Christmas tree was viewed left to right, moving up the tree then down. Every year we could easily compare the tree and the presents underneath.

  556. Alyson @ 3Ps in a Pod on November 24, 2008 at 1:01 a.m.

  561. Ryan M. on November 24, 2008 at 4:22 a.m.

I document the holiday by photographic memory.. I always think back on the memories in my head... Remembering each individual christmas by recalling the misfortuned people at the shelter I was volunteering. ;D

  562. Donielle on November 24, 2008 at 4:24 a.m.

Hubby and I take turns at each others family's houses. I take the pics at his family's and he takes all the pics at mine. That way we each get a moment to sit back and enjoy!

  563. Tiffany on November 24, 2008 at 5:31 a.m.

My tip would be not to go overboard. I love taking pictures AND video but I try to keep in to a minimum.

  564. Nadine L on November 24, 2008 at 5:41 a.m.

We have a tradition of going to all the relatives houses on Christmas Eve. At one aunts house ( where everyone eventually meets up) she snaps a picture of you when you walk in and has you sign a page in a scrapbook, then puts your picture next to your signature. She must have 15 or more of these books, one for every year. It's really interesting and fun to see how everyone has changed over the years. And great to see the ones we lost and miss at the holidays.

  565. Audrey on November 24, 2008 at 6:18 a.m.

Take loads of pictures. I don't own a video camera.

  566. Inger on November 24, 2008 at 6:27 a.m.

Usually, we buy a journal the day before our trip and while on the road we write notes about the interesting things we've seen on the road. In addition to the notes sometimes we tape receipts, pressed flowers and other things to the pages. Once we get home we add the pictures we have taken to the back of the journal making a nice scrapbook of our trip.

  567. Anita on November 24, 2008 at 6:53 a.m.

I like to come up with a topic and have everyone at the gathering share their thoughts. It could be a current event, a new addition, family history, etc. This has been done in written form, and it would be great to have a digital video camera to record it to share with the whole family online.

  568. Amy Griffin on November 24, 2008 at 7:02 a.m.

We get a small Christmas album for each year. It's so much fun to go back through each album!

  569. Gabreial W. on November 24, 2008 at 7:20 a.m.

There are some really great tips here. I'm leaning a lot. How about a notebook during Thanksgiving where everyone writes what they are thankful for. Then you can make copies and give it as gifts for Christmas.

  570. Jennifer M on November 24, 2008 at 7:41 a.m.

Take candids! They are so much more fun, and show more personality, than posed shots.

  571. Irina on November 24, 2008 at 8:07 a.m.

  572. Clara on November 24, 2008 at 8:25 a.m.

I think one thing I want to do is to make a yearbook each year- three copies- and give them as holiday gifts. When my boys are older, they will have a set of books that describe what they were doing and when...

  573. Jim W. on November 24, 2008 at 8:28 a.m.

I like leaving a few camera laying around so people can take candid shots of one another

  574. Christina on November 24, 2008 at 8:33 a.m.

I wait until all the "proper" holiday remembrance photos have been taken, til everyone's utterly filled with fine homemade food, and for that magic moment when kids are running around playing with their new toys - when everyone is completely relaxed because the holiday is almost over, the most "natural" videos
    (and photos) appear.

  575. Kt on November 24, 2008 at 8:33 a.m.

We take the same family photo every year and it's (funny) interesting to see how everyone has aged and their styles have changed etc!

  576. Julie on November 24, 2008 at 8:33 a.m.

My best tip is don't forget your camera (yes I have done that). Also remember to have fun with your photos, don't always make everyone pose for a picture, just snap some when everyone is doing what they do.

I think one of the most important things when documenting the holidays is not to get so caught up in taking the pictures that you lose sight of being in the moment. That having been said, keep the camera with you so you can capture unexpected moments.

My old favorite, the Polaroid, is no more, so we have to go with other forms of instant gratification: downloading those digital pics and sharing them ASAP. Not quite the same thing as watching the film develop before your eyes, though.

  600. jenna pepper on November 24, 2008 at 12:45 p.m.

i want the video camera! my favorite way to document holiday memories is to take picture, make prints then assemble prints into small photo albums to give to all the grandparents. they love getting these books for christmas and seeing what the boys have been up to all year for each holiday.

  601. Angela J. on November 24, 2008 at 1:02 p.m.

  605. Kelly F on November 24, 2008 at 2:16 p.m.

Make sure that you enjoy the moment and don't focus so much on just documenting. Being able to look back on memories is great, but if you weren't able to enjoy it at the time it doesn't matter much.

  606. Jennifer on November 24, 2008 at 2:24 p.m.

I love to take pictures during the holidays. i like to get started with halloween, then thanksgiving, and you must have christmas. I sit down a scrapbook the pictures to have lasting memories. i have never had a camcorder or anything like it before, so i would love the opportunity to make and keep our familys' memories.

  607. Sarah Hirsch on November 24, 2008 at 3:09 p.m.

For holiday photos, take shifts. One person will be in charge of getting some candids and more formal shots for a while, then that person should pass the camera along to the next person and so on. That way, you'll get photos of every person instead of having one missing photographer, and everyone will have a slightly different perspective captured.

  608. Jennifer on November 24, 2008 at 3:21 p.m.

Don't stress over it! Candid shots are only nice if they are FLATTERING!

  609. Mary on November 24, 2008 at 3:21 p.m.

My favorite is to take videos.

  613. Mollie G. on November 24, 2008 at 3:48 p.m.

Try and plan out ahead of time, at least a leetle bit, what people will be wearing and what kind of backgrounds they might be in front of -- nothing quite like the future-embarrassment of the "sans-pajamas" shots first thing in the morning while "plumbing the depths of the Christmas Stockings" -- or of the "happy smiling faces" breakfasting at the kitchen table with Christmas Dinner "evolving and suddenly erupting messily" in the background.

  614. Jennifer J on November 24, 2008 at 4:17 p.m.

Most of the digital cameras have this feature and trust me, it def. helps while recollecting those moments. It also helps while arranging them in albums/scrapbooks. My another fav tip would be to..Print them!!..Do not leave them in memory sticks/hard drives etc. I maintain a holiday scrapbook and treasure my memories in it.I also stick a small 'post it' note next to it, in case I want to scribble something.

  657. gail on November 25, 2008 at 1:56 a.m.

pics was definitely a must have for me in many occasion. in fact, i am asking my mom to buy me a digi cam for this christmas but she just dosn't have any enough $. so, maybe. I can get one with this. hehe

  658. Andrea on November 25, 2008 at 2:10 a.m.

Have several people bring cameras and then share the pictures. That way you have more than one perspective.

  659. Janeen on November 25, 2008 at 7:07 a.m.

We keep journals. I have one for each Major holiday, and we pass the book around and let everyone write a favorite memory or event from that year's holiday. We love to read them aloud on Thanksgiving & Christmas. Reading about what fun things we did years before is so much fun, and the kids LOVE to hear about silly things they did when they were little!

  660. kim m on November 25, 2008 at 2:25 p.m.

i document all my favorite pictures with my camera. i then upload them on my computer to create scrapbooking projects and holiday cards.

We always take a family portrait for all family get together's

  662. Terri on November 25, 2008 at 2:27 p.m.

Look for the simple pictures. Not every picture has to be a pose or look at the camera. The best pictures are usually one that no one but the taker knows is coming.

  663. marcia munoz on November 25, 2008 at 2:28 p.m.

    am i too late?

  664. Sarah on November 25, 2008 at 2:28 p.m.

I take tons of pictures and either set the video camera in the corner or my husband has to do the video taping!

  665. regina on November 25, 2008 at 2:31 p.m.

i put a date on everything. always have a camera handy.

  666. Shelly on November 25, 2008 at 2:32 p.m.

If you've never read the manual for your camera, now is a great time! Once I read the manual, the pictures got better and better. If your camera has a mode that allows for continuous shooting, turn it to that setting and snap away. You're bound to get some really great shots.

  667. Tracy on November 25, 2008 at 2:35 p.m.

My husband and I like to podcast about holiday events to have a recording of all that happened.

  668. pam m on November 25, 2008 at 2:36 p.m.

make sure you get pictures of yourself - delegate the role of photographer for a bit

  669. Melanie on November 25, 2008 at 2:37 p.m.

I have my camera glued to my hand and the video camera glued to my husband's camera. I blog about everything right after it happens so I can remember all of the details/funny moments and I make sure to get everyone else's pictures who we may be with at the time.

I always try and print my pictures right away and put them in an album until I have time to scrapbook them :)

  673. Jackie on November 25, 2008 at 2:45 p.m.

My tip is to give the video camera to one of the kids! (at least old enough to work it and not break it) They love to have a job to do and its great to see their perspective on the day!

  674. Gina on November 25, 2008 at 2:46 p.m.

I've gone digital with my scrapbooks, and it saves me both money AND time.

  675. Jenn on November 25, 2008 at 2:49 p.m.

Every year, I take a family photo just before Christmas and put it in a cute photo frame ornament. I always write the year on the photo. When we look at our Christmas tree, we can see our family each year. It's fun to see how everyone changes, and watch our family grow.

I have also recently fallen in love with photobooks from snapfish.com. They are so much easier to make and take less time than scrapbooking. Plus, it's professionally bound and not too expensive either.

  676. TASHA J on November 25, 2008 at 2:50 p.m.

WE ALWAYS HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE TAKING PICTURES WITH DIFFERENT CAMERAS SO IF ONE PERSONS PICS DIDN'T COME OUT, WE CAN GET THE PIC FROM SOMEONE ELSE.

  677. DeAnn O'Neill on November 25, 2008 at 2:50 p.m.

My tip: take tons of photos and check your lighting before you take more than a couple. Nothing is more disappointing than going home to find your shots are all over or underexposed! With the wonderful digital cameras, there's no excuse to forget about the lighting!

  678. Beth on November 25, 2008 at 2:51 p.m.

    My holiday tip:
Pictures, pictures, pictures. My oldest (4 years old) has gotten into photography, so this year Santa is bringing him a camera so he'll be able to record holiday memories as well.

  679. Julie on November 25, 2008 at 2:51 p.m.

I always wanted to make Youtube videos, and create and edit them to make them unique so that FLIP will be in handy. :)

I love to take pictures, but now my 4 year old son does too and he captures some great moments.

  682. Kerri on November 25, 2008 at 2:58 p.m.

My favorite tip would be to use natural light. The pictures and videos look so much better using all natural light as much as possible.

  683. Judith on November 25, 2008 at 2:58 p.m.

My family lives so far away. They mail all their gifts to the children. I love to take LOTS of pictures and videos of the children opening the gifts. I then put them on DVDs and mail them to the gift givers. They enjoy watching the children opening their gifts. I would SO LOVE this camera, my digital camera doesn't take the best videos!!!

  684. Patti on November 25, 2008 at 3 p.m.

One good tip that we do is make photo books from the digital photos we upload...you can even share them thru email if you don't want to purchase them.

  685. Laura Hutchcroft on November 25, 2008 at 3:01 p.m.

For Thanksgiving my family always does a family picture with 9 of us plus some are married with kids makes it interesting. We like to compare against previous years. After the picture, then we are allowed to eat!

  686. Kristine M on November 25, 2008 at 3:04 p.m.

I love to wake the kids up with the camera in their face. Their reaction when they see what Santa left is the best. At the end of the day I ask everyone to say a little something to the camera. Capturing their words is priceless. When video taping...have Christmas music in the background. It would be nice to do it this year with the flip.

  687. Kelli T on November 25, 2008 at 3:06 p.m.

My holiday tip: Let the kids share in the memories. Let them take pictures too. You'll be surprised at what they find is special to them. And how small things are from their vantage point.

    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  688. Cindy Barnett on November 25, 2008 at 3:11 p.m.

Several of my friends have this, and I love the size and storage space on it. It's like a larger camera - but so small you can put it in your pocket.

  689. Emily Traver on November 25, 2008 at 3:12 p.m.

Take a picture of your child or opening their gift. Include that picture with the thank you note they send (or turn it into the thank you card).

  690. Kelli on November 25, 2008 at 3:13 p.m.

At the holidays, I try to make sure to take lots of candid photos - often when no one is looking. Pose and smile pictures are great, but it's always the "true" snapshots which take you back to the fun times with family and friends.
Thanks for the chance at your giveaway!

  691. Megan S. on November 25, 2008 at 3:13 p.m.

  694. Mrs. Schmid on November 25, 2008 at 3:23 p.m.

Thanks for the great giveaway! Every year we make sure we've got the pic of our daughter on Santa's lap. It's so fun to put them in a frame next to the last year's photo and see how much she's grown in a year!

  695. Angela Lynn on November 25, 2008 at 3:23 p.m.

I always try to be ready for the unexpected. I bring all of my cameras (expensive digital, cheaper digital, film camera, etc) and make sure other people bring theirs. That way there is always something around to capture the "ultimate" unplanned moment. Those are always the sweetest.

  696. sarah gehman on November 25, 2008 at 3:26 p.m.

I take tons of pictures and video saying how old my children are and what year it is. We always take a family picture as well.

  701. Shannon Rhoades on November 25, 2008 at 3:46 p.m.

A tip I'd like to give is...make sure you take turns with your hubby when you're taking pictures or videotaping. I don't know how many pictures I have of him with the kids...I've learned now to get some photo time too :)

  702. casey on November 25, 2008 at 3:58 p.m.

Always have a camera on hand! You never know what is going to happen on the holidays! Just take alot of pictures and make sure that you let someone else have the camera for a little while, so you can be in some photos too!

  703. Laura Aulestia on November 25, 2008 at 3:58 p.m.

i take lots of pics. I go everywhere with my camera.

  704. Michelle Y. on November 25, 2008 at 4:05 p.m.

My tip for the holidays would be to take lots of pictures and get your little post-it notes to write down little bits of information that reminds you of what has happened during that special time. So, after you print your pictures, you will already have your journaling done. All you need to do now is put it in a scrapbook.
Thanks for the chance to win.

  705. Kirsten on November 25, 2008 at 4:07 p.m.

I keep the camera by my side and take pictures when ever the opportunity calls. I also let family members use the camera so that we get pictures of our whole family too.

  706. Rebekah on November 25, 2008 at 4:08 p.m.

I just end up taking lots of digital photos so I can easily weed through the bad shots and edit out the red eye.

I also try for lots of candids instead of poses. It is much more natural and looks better in the long run.

  707. Amy Knapp on November 25, 2008 at 4:09 p.m.

It is my newborns first christmas and we also plan on seeing his grandparents and I would love the camera for holiday and vacation memories. We will also be traveling a couple times next year to Disney World and the mountains and the flip camera would be fantastic.

  708. Cheryl wade on November 25, 2008 at 4:09 p.m.

I usually don't video the Holidays because I feel that the person behind the camera misses out on the real action. This camera might be the solution.

  709. Baba on November 25, 2008 at 4:20 p.m.

Pictures, pictures, and more pictures. Of course a video camera comes in handy so I have my son-in-law bring his.

  710. Jennifer on November 25, 2008 at 4:27 p.m.

I start a small photo album at the beginning of each school year and finish it when the next year starts. When my son married, I gave him the albums and hoping that he will do the same for his children.

  711. Lori on November 25, 2008 at 4:35 p.m.

My Tip is: The unexpected moments always turn out the best. Keep that camera near and back batteries ready.

  712. Pamela C. on November 25, 2008 at 4:37 p.m.

We always take a family photo. Also, this year will be my first Christmas since my dad died. As we were looking through pictures for the funeral, we wished that all the pictures at least had dates on them. So get pictures printed and information on the back of them right away.

  713. Sage on November 25, 2008 at 4:43 p.m.

I always make sure to get pictues off the camera, onto the computer, and in an album right away. Thanks Sage

  714. becky on November 25, 2008 at 4:48 p.m.

My favorite thing to document holidays is actually video. Mom & Dad have videos from every year of Christmas when we were kids, and it's so much fun to go back and watch them. I plan to do the same with our son.

  715. Karen on November 25, 2008 at 4:51 p.m.

  772. Lauren on November 25, 2008 at 7:16 p.m.

My tip is to set my camera on the speed setting so that it repeatedly takes pictures in quick succession. It makes it easier to catch that perfect expression!

  773. Elizabeth Tindell on November 25, 2008 at 7:22 p.m.

Take tons of pics and date them as soon as you print them so they dont get all mixed up.

  774. Christi on November 25, 2008 at 7:34 p.m.

Most important thing is to date everything!! I have so many photos from way back when that I have no idea when it happend!!

  779. Kari on November 25, 2008 at 7:48 p.m.

My tip for videoing, I set up camera on a tripod the nght before and get to the living room just before the kids to catch their surprised looks when the see their presents. Every year I edit and add a little bit of music to the tape and one day, I hope to give 1 tape with a little bit of every year on it to them.

  780. Dawn Taylor on November 25, 2008 at 7:50 p.m.

My husband and I take turns taking pictures of our two kids on Christmas morning. That way we both have a chance to enjoy the moments!!

  781. Eliza on November 25, 2008 at 7:50 p.m.

Now that I have a little one (and another one on the way...in about 12 days!) I make a Christmas tree ornament every year with their picture on it. It's great to pull them out each December and realize how much they've grown!

  782. Lara Swartz on November 25, 2008 at 7:58 p.m.

My favorite tip is when it comes time to take our holiday pictures, I always make sure the kids have napped and just eaten. That way they avoid being cranky and throwing tantrums.

  783. Tracy on November 25, 2008 at 7:59 p.m.

My favorite tip is to use my phone to upload and send my pictures and videos to my online storage account at the end of each vacation day. That way my camera is cleared and ready to go the next day, and all of my pictures are safely stored!

I give the kids disposable cameras. Talk about pictures from a different angle. They're great.

  788. Kristy on November 25, 2008 at 8:16 p.m.

Take as many pictures as you can and weed out the good ones later!

  789. AmyDe on November 25, 2008 at 8:16 p.m.

Wow! All the tips are wonderful. I try to take photos, but we have like 20 years of family photos in the same house, same room, same people in same places, etc. It might make kind of a fun montage - I'm going to scan and upload them into a morphing slideshow - thanks for the idea. Thank you for the opportunity as well.

  790. Linda B on November 25, 2008 at 8:23 p.m.

For the past 32 years we have taken pictures of the grandparents with the grandkids. Now it's the grandkids and great grandkids. We add the new picture to the album each year. It's fun to see the changes over the years.

  791. Angela on November 25, 2008 at 8:26 p.m.

I love pictures! I like to get down to the kids level and snap snap snap.

  792. Erin Colburn on November 25, 2008 at 8:29 p.m.

I write in a journal after our major holidays. I don't have time to do it on a daily basis but I make sure to do it during the important family times. A few minutes now will be worth it in the long run when my children can read about it when we're gone!

  793. Jo Ann Lopez on November 25, 2008 at 8:35 p.m.

What I do is alot of video taping of all my grandkids from the day they are born up to now...then I transfer them down to cd's of each individual grandchild so they can have their memories of their lifetime joys and sadness, their accomplishments and their struggles...we sit and watch old videos and just laugh and remember and that's the best part is remembering and enjoying our family...so tape as much as you can...the flip video would be a great gift compared to my video camera I have...Thanks

  794. Marie Clark on November 25, 2008 at 8:35 p.m.

  795. Tonia on November 25, 2008 at 8:37 p.m.

Always keep your camera in the same place so you know where it is at all times.

  796. chantel on November 25, 2008 at 8:42 p.m.

Let my husband record and remember that everything you say while the camera is rolling could be documented on film.

  797. Jen on November 25, 2008 at 8:46 p.m.

My dad takes TONS of pictures- so I just make sure I get a copy of all his pictures!

  798. Helen on November 25, 2008 at 9:02 p.m.

  799. Lucy K on November 25, 2008 at 9:18 p.m.

We take pictures and share with the family. Thanks

  800. DD on November 25, 2008 at 9:18 p.m.

My mom loves to "video" but she doesn't have one, so I give her mine and put her in charge of the videoing while I use my digital camera. That way we both get to do what we enjoy and have two different viewpoints!

  801. Rene Hernandez on November 25, 2008 at 9:24 p.m.

My favorite way would most likely be with a borrowed digi cam. My camera was stolen last year. Also, maybe using my cell phone camera.

  802. Sarah S on November 25, 2008 at 9:31 p.m.

I love taking a million pictures, blogging the best ones, and also putting them into a cute shutterfly book.

  803. Terri K on November 25, 2008 at 10:05 p.m.

I love to take picture at the holidays, but what I like best is to take pictures of everydau life with the kids and grandkids. The ones not pose, hair tussed and faces not always shining. It makes the memories more cherished as the grow older so fast.

  804. kelly on November 25, 2008 at 10:12 p.m.

I'm an organizing freak! Everything has to be dated and if i know the exact time its even better. My favorite thing to do during holiday times or even big dates for me, is to keep a small notepad in my purse. everytime something "big" happens i jot it down. then at the end of the day when the kids are asleep, before I get to bed myself, i write a detailed outline of my day and everything that happened. I use that notepad as reference since i sometimes get so caught up in writing about one event, i forget about the event that happened right before and so on and so on. :)

  805. Jose on November 25, 2008 at 10:17 p.m.

my wife seems to ALWAYS have a camera in her hand. if shes not taking video of our daughters, she is taking snapshots of our surroundings. then she prints the pictures and makes collages out of the pictures she took. in the center of the collage is our "updated" family picture. information such as names, ages, and the places we visited that year or trip are laid out in the collage made up of different things we saw. for example, when it was my daughter Austin's 2nd birthday, she came across a sign that read "Austin Clothing" and took a picture of it. She then used the section Austin as my daughter's name and then had the piece of a sign for 2nd street as her 2nd birthday.

  806. Ronda on November 25, 2008 at 10:29 p.m.

I always take lots of pictures and document on the back. This would be great to have with all 5 of my children and a very large extended family.

  807. Amie on November 25, 2008 at 10:54 p.m.

I love taking pictures. Photos are the best. I also enjoy turning many of those photos into video slide shows set to music. Everyone enjoys those!

  808. Lisa Moore on November 25, 2008 at 11:09 p.m.

When my dad was a kid, my grandfather would place a cassette recorder in the corner of the room and tape the sounds of the festivities. It may seem old fashioned with all the available technology, but it's really a wonderful treasure to have! These days, I am into making photobooks, and I am trying my hand at blogging.

  809. Sylvia on November 25, 2008 at 11:24 p.m.

I use flickr to upload all my pics so that everyone can see... but make sure to also have hard copies made for people that want to actually hold them. Oh, and get your old obselete formats digitized so you can see them!

  810. Kat on November 25, 2008 at 11:42 p.m.

Upload them to a folder on my laptop. Not only does it keep me organized but I can then wipe my memory card and start over if I need more space.

  811. Amanda on November 26, 2008 at 12:39 a.m.

I take lots of pictures! I share them with family and friends through networking websites and email.

  812. Marianne Pitchford on November 26, 2008 at 12:52 a.m.

We have a scrapbook that is just a Christmas scrapbook and each year, we add the photos from the holidays. It is bright red and is such a joy to look through in the weeks before Christmas, talking about the memories of years gone by!

  813. crystal on November 26, 2008 at 1:20 a.m.

We take film of everything, the cooking of the meal is sometimes a reminder for next year that even though everything wasnt perfect,it sure tasted like it was:)

  814. Leann on November 26, 2008 at 2:48 a.m.

We pass around the cameras so everyone can be included in pictures.
Also, even if someone doesn't want their picture taken, try to persuade them to smile. People will take your picture whether you like it or not, and you will always look better smiling.
Lastly, don't spend the entire day behind the camera. Take time to just live in the moment.

  815. Elizabeth Hatfield on November 26, 2008 at 3:30 a.m.

I use Picasa - and I love it. I download images from the camera frequently, though my daughter loves looking at pictures of the baby, so I leave them on there. We spend a good 20 minutes or longer just checking out that gorgeous baby!

  816. Andria Goebel on November 26, 2008 at 3:36 a.m.

We take lots of pics and use our video camera. Every year we take a picture of the kids in front of the tree! Thanks so much for the chance!

  817. Summer Parsons on November 26, 2008 at 4:09 a.m.

My best tip is to bring extra extra batteries! The years fly by so quickly that I can't bear to not have all of the pictures that I can possibly get. I also load them in several places (my computer and online) so I'll never lose them!

  818. Kathy on November 26, 2008 at 4:19 a.m.

Make sure to get a picture of the entire family - Also set up the tripod for the video camera for christmas morning so you can record the memory but still enjoy the moment.

  819. Cheryl on November 26, 2008 at 4:24 a.m.

My tip - take tons of pictures and be sure to upload them often!

  820. Angela on November 26, 2008 at 4:53 a.m.

I take lots of pictures and give the camcorder to my husband! But, I really need to buy a digital camera!

  821. Kathryn on November 26, 2008 at 5:02 a.m.

Keep the camera going as much as possible. Catching something really memorable tends to happen when you think nothing interesting is going on.

  822. G on November 26, 2008 at 5:13 a.m.

thanks to digital cameras you can take tons and tons of pictures which will increase your chances of getting that special moment as well as some really good photos. Start taking pictures before the big day so it includes the preparations (baking wrapping all great kid moments) and decorations so you can remember for next year if you want to recreate something.

  823. Melanie Bush on November 26, 2008 at 5:23 a.m.

I use onetruemedia.com to create a video montage of all our favorite pictures and videos for the year. It's a great gift for grandparents and a great memory for our family! My video camera is not working correctly (video is overexposed)so I'd love to have a new one to record these precious memories!

  825. Tammy on November 26, 2008 at 5:27 a.m.

Always have spare batteries that you should have bought on sale.

  826. Rachel on November 26, 2008 at 5:33 a.m.

My tip for capturing holiday memories is to focus on the moments that you have together and not necessarily the events. We took some video last Christmas of our family dog just being silly in the left over wrapping paper. We didn't know it then, but it was his last Christmas! He passed away 3 months later. I'm so glad we did that now!

  827. Jen on November 26, 2008 at 5:48 a.m.

I like to take lots of pictures, and then put together small photo albums as gifts for the following year. Family members look forward to this now, as it as become a tradition. And, it's easy on my budget!

  833. Kathy on November 26, 2008 at 6:08 a.m.

I added a kid activity. We love going to Moon Marble in Bonner Springs, KS. It is located just off of 1-70. It is fun to watch them make handmade marbles.

  841. Ann Marie Miller on November 26, 2008 at 6:23 a.m.

I think the best thing to document the events of the holiday is pictures and video taping so you always have those memories on film. I don't have a video camera at this time, so this would be a great start! Please include me in the drawing; I need one of these desperately! Thanks again!

  842. Suzy on November 26, 2008 at 6:23 a.m.

  843. Dawn S on November 26, 2008 at 6:24 a.m.

My tip is to utilize the computer for scrapbooking. I could never find the time to do it by hand, but when I was given the software to use, it made it so much easier for me. Best part, there's nothing to clean up afterwards!

    Thanks!
    Dawn S.

  844. jenni d on November 26, 2008 at 6:26 a.m.

  845. lee greenwood on November 26, 2008 at 6:29 a.m.

My tip is to drink lots of Nog and take lots of pictures.

  846. Lynda Chapel on November 26, 2008 at 6:31 a.m.

I always have my camera with me wherever I go. You never know when it's picture time! I really want to do the same with a video camera, especially since I'm expecting my first baby soon. The Flip would be perfect for this. Also, don't forget to upload all in one place to keep your pictures together!

  847. Sylvia on November 26, 2008 at 6:32 a.m.

For Thanksgiving, for example, I put a picture in our scrapbook of the family, but also on that day, I have family members write down on the scrapbook page what they are thankful for. It's great to see the comments from years past!

  848. Victoria on November 26, 2008 at 6:37 a.m.

We record our holiday each and every year with a family portrait. We have one for each of the 17 years we've had children. We also share pictures (dating from way back in 1865!) and talk about our family's history.

  849. Heather Ricci on November 26, 2008 at 6:38 a.m.

Start early! I like to get shots of my daughter (and our family) dressed in front of the tree BEFORE the big day -- this way I know, I got the shots and the actual holiday can be more candid!

  850. Jessica on November 26, 2008 at 6:45 a.m.

Since we don't take many pictures we pretty much rely on the memories of those attending hoiday gatherings. It sometimes causes good natured arguments on who ate what and who was asleep first because of our selective memories.

My favorite tip for documenting holiday memories is to use online photo book sites where you can digitally create books of your favorite photos with great backgrounds and layouts and captions if you want them. They print it and send it to you. They're great.

  873. Natalie on November 26, 2008 at 7:25 a.m.

  874. Russ Lawrence on November 26, 2008 at 7:25 a.m.

  875. Tim on November 26, 2008 at 7:31 a.m.

My best tip for capturing holiday memories would have to be take pictures of everything. Digital cameras can store so much information. So, go ahead and take a few hundred pictures of your family decorating the tree. Doesn't cost any extra.

  876. Aimee on November 26, 2008 at 7:32 a.m.

Make sure you say the month day and year once you begin recording and for recording on the major holidays let some other family members or friends video tape as well.....it lets you be in the video and also gives a different take on the video outcome.

  877. Anissa on November 26, 2008 at 7:34 a.m.

There are all sorts of cameras around when we get together w/ family, so I often let others take the pictures so I can enjoy some time to just relax. I also take pictures of other people's kids so they can do the same. Then we all swap pics and I usually make a Shutterfly book or something:) Plus I upload them to Picasa so all can see.

I like to get prints of all our photos as soon as possible and have the kids scrapbook them while they are off from school that week, while they are still in the holiday spirit. It keeps them busy and me sane :O)

  884. Jennifer on November 26, 2008 at 7:47 a.m.

This product is small enough to carry in your purse so you can catch those moments of your children that will last a lifetime.

  885. JoAnn on November 26, 2008 at 7:48 a.m.

I will up load all my pics to the computer then save them all to a disc. That helps to keep them all together.

  886. Jodi on November 26, 2008 at 7:48 a.m.

I take lots of pictures and videos on my digital camera and upload them later. Then I have the exact date and time on record. Its a good alternative for when you are saving time and money for a video camera, then I get hard copies of the pictures made so I can make more room on my disk. Then if something happens I always have a back up place for the pictures.

  887. Rebecca on November 26, 2008 at 7:50 a.m.

I take tons of photos with my digital camera, and then make a photobook to document particular events or trips. I like to customize a photobook for the grandparents and make a separate one for us so the kids can enjoy it. I always try to get in at least 1 great family photo to document how we look every holiday!

I like to let my 3 children have a one time use camera and let them have fun with it on our outings or get togethers. It is always interesting to see their perspective in print!

  891. Elizabeth Sanchez on November 26, 2008 at 8:06 a.m.

I use Picasa to upload my pictures. It keeps pictures organized on my computer by creating a folder for them right away and then it takes 30 seconds to upload them online so grandparents, aunts, uncles and pretty much anyone who wasn't on vacation to see them as well. Also, I keep the date function on so the date always appears on my photos. Sometimes it looks bad but it's better than forgetting when the picture was taken.

  892. Melinda on November 26, 2008 at 8:06 a.m.

  896. Aimee Adams on November 26, 2008 at 8:34 a.m.

One of the best ways to document your videos is to include music in the background while filming. It reflects the music of the time, whether holiday, or certain artists who may turn out to be legends in history.

  897. Kelly on November 26, 2008 at 8:35 a.m.

I'm from KY, so on Holidays when the video cameras are rolling, I try to speak without too much southern drawl! It sounds bad when re-played!!

  899. Kath on November 26, 2008 at 8:38 a.m.

My favorite tip is to hand the camera to the kids. It's surprising to see the world from their eyes and they love feeling the responsibility of their own camera.

The last time I owned a camera was in the 6th grade. I now teach highschool. Times have been very tough for me financially. My significant other and I go to the beach and make really cool sandcastles but I dont even have but a cell phone camera to document the events. Would be a cool holiday gift to give him for christmas.

  906. Sherry Rota on November 26, 2008 at 8:51 a.m.

That is so cool!! The best tip I have for capturing holiday moments is to just let them happen on their own. If you try to plan them, it never comes out right!!

I would love to have a video camera to catch my 2 year old doing her funny things singing, dancing etc. Her birthday is on dec 1st to what a great way to celebrate. Hope we win it.

  917. Linda Weaver on November 26, 2008 at 9:50 a.m.

I have never had a video camera. Each year I dress like Santa to pass out gifts for my family. Last year I went outside to knock on the windows to surprise the children. Well, I slipped and fell on the wet grass. Everyone laughed, but no one had a video camera. How great it would have been to capture that moment.

my tip, get down on the floor and put yourself at your children's level then ignore them for a minute or two and they will "forget" you have a camera, makes for some very natural shots

  922. judy henry on November 26, 2008 at 9:59 a.m.

To take the best pictures ever -- use the ZOOM, you get down to their level and use the zoom on the camera and you'll get the best pics for enlarging, cards, scrapbooking, whatever.

  923. Susan on November 26, 2008 at 10:27 a.m.

My teenagers love to take pictures, so they both have cameras and they do all the documenting! The funny part is that most people don't think my younger daughter can get good pictures, so she is able to get lots of candid shots! Happy Holidays!

  924. Tiffany on November 26, 2008 at 10:28 a.m.

  926. Stephanie on November 26, 2008 at 10:38 a.m.

Every year I do a photo Christmas card and family newsletter. I put each card and letter in the same scrapbook each year. Someday we'll have years worth of photos and updates in one place.

I upload the pics on my laptop as soon as possible and have my husband write captions, funny discriptions of where we were and what we were doing under each of them.(I dont do it myself as my sense of humor is very complicated)

  928. Reslient Heart on November 26, 2008 at 10:43 a.m.

I always keep my digital camera with me everywhere I go to capture those special unexpected moments. I then upload them to photobucket for friends and family, and enjoy compiling family photos onto CDs for posterity (great to have for backups or emergencies). I've also scanned old photographs so everything is together in digital form.

It's my Dad's love for photography that hooked me, he was always taking pictures or using the old Super 8 video camera. Time goes by so fast, so nice to have memories captured.

  929. Summer on November 26, 2008 at 10:44 a.m.

I take lots of pictures then right away put them in an acid free album that has a place to write something about that picture. I take the camera with me everywhere. Having a video camera like the one you are giving away would be great to take everywhere also. It would be so portable unlike the big one I have. Thank you for this offer

  937. Dawn Walker on November 26, 2008 at 11:34 a.m.

Take lots of pictures. If you get disposable cameras you can set them around so other people can catch things that you don't. Or use a digital camera because you can take tons of pictures on those cards and then you can just take to a kiosk and print off the ones you need.

  938. Jule Ann Wakeman on November 26, 2008 at 11:58 a.m.

Always get your camera out of it's case and ready to go as soon as you arrive where you're going. Then, it's easy to grab for those spontaneous memorable moments. Or, someone else might just grab it when you're not looking, and leave fun pics to find later!

I take pictures, but then I also try to keep a small notebook close and jot the date and a quick note about the event - what happened, how I felt, what prompted it, etc. If I don't get to scrapbooking right away, I have the info I need with the date to match up with the pics and relive the whole event again (the good, the bad, the ugly, and the hysterical!).

  955. Abbey on November 26, 2008 at 2:34 p.m.

The key to me is keeping the camera close - in a pocket if its small or around my neck if it is big-- also doing some journaling each day helps as I easily forget some neat little things as time passes.

I ask them to bring their calenders(its the end of the year anyway, and Hey its an easy gift to give a NEW one!)and try to position one in several different areas so that most shots have it in. I like to take our photo for the family Christmas card, at my parent's house, Thanksgiving Day. The last couple of years my son has not cooperated. He would act so grumpy. I ended up using a photo of Noah by himself (sitting on the fireplace with his nutcracker collection, or driving his toy jeep).

  964. Jessica on November 26, 2008 at 6:28 p.m.

Use the auto focus feature when taking photos of kids. They never sit still long enough to manually adjust!

  976. Cher on November 26, 2008 at 7:47 p.m.

For me, it's all in the smile! I love to take great photos that make people laugh. If the picture is not all that funny I'll find something to jazz it up a bit. For example a good caption can make a dull scene hilarious. I've also discovered that adding another picture to communicate an emotion or idea can liven up an album. A little bit of creativity goes a long ways. For example, I made a Mother's Day album where I wrote down all of the funny stories I could remember from childhood and put hilarious pictures with them. Mom laughed herself silly. Another example is a book I made for my friend in the form of a mock study guide when we graduated from college with all of our inside jokes hidden in every page. I try to make it personal and one of a kind. For example, I made up a holiday for my husband and presented him with a book filled with everything that I know will make him laugh. It was so awesome seeing the sparkle in his eyes and hear his sweet laugh. Now that I have a son my wheels are turning!! I think we could have fun with a flip video.

I like to make an ornament every year. It is something that you can reuse each year, and pulling it out reminds you of the past Christmas memories. It is especially fun when they incorporate photos. Plus, you can be green by using this year's Christmas cards to make next year's ornaments.

You can never have too many pictures or videos of your children and family. The time goes by so quickly and the memories made today will be cherished if you have them to go back to.

  985. Shiela on November 26, 2008 at 10 p.m.

We take a ton of pictures. It's good to have more than one person taking pictures that way everyone gets in the shots. Our Video camera broke so this Flip camera would be great to use with the grandkids.

  986. Marsha Goggin on November 27, 2008 at 12:09 a.m.

Don't spend so much time behind the camera that you miss out on other things around you. Let others take turns recording the event. This way you also get in the pic and see some things through someone elses view.

  987. Lisa on November 27, 2008 at 5:27 a.m.

I love to take a lot of pictures and it's really expensive to print them all out for everyone. So what I do is I take all my pictures and movie clips and make a movie with them using a movie maker. I then give them out to the family. Dvd's are much cheaper than a ton pf pictures and I can add my own touch and music.

  999. Jessica on November 27, 2008 at 3:33 p.m.

I journal everyday what we do and attach a few pictures to the journal (blog)...I label my cds so when I print out my yearly annual photobooks I can add more pics from the cds to the books along with journal entries.

  1002. Kathy on November 27, 2008 at 5:52 p.m.

I make sure to label everthing quickly, I hate finding pictures and wondering when they were taken. when taking pictures I like to get casual pictures (not posed) so I take lots of pictures and know I will have some good shots.

  1007. Benisa on November 27, 2008 at 7:27 p.m.

I take lots of pictures. I make sure everything is in order, just in case there is no one else there to take them for me. Later i put the pictures in my daughters baby album. I try to write in their scrap books as we go, so i dont live anything out. we dont have a video camera, i really think that would make it alot easier.

  1008. Carrie Curry on November 27, 2008 at 7:37 p.m.

I buy disposable cameras for the kids and allow them to take pictures so we can see the holidays through their eyes

  1009. Rebecca on November 27, 2008 at 9:04 p.m.

I take lots of pictures and I save a map or brochure from every place we visit. IT is great to add to the scrapbook, and if we ever return again later, it is fun to see how things have changed since we were last there, and compare brochures and maps. :)

  1011. Suzanne on November 27, 2008 at 9:52 p.m.

We play "musical cameras." By the end of the party, several people have taken pictures with each camera. That way, you have all different styles of pictures and nobody is left out.

  1012. maria gagliano on November 28, 2008 at 6:42 a.m.

I take a million photos, journal, blog, and interview people with my video camera. I love to see the changes every year. Recently we started making the best pictures of the year into holiday hard cover photo books that we only take out during the holiday.

It is amazing to see how everyone changes.

  1013. kim p on November 28, 2008 at 8:14 a.m.

My sister is an awesome photographer and she loves to photograph our family. I also share the photos on our family website and create scrapbooks for our children.

  1020. Pam Barber on November 28, 2008 at 3:54 p.m.

We love to drag out the old photos and reminisce about the "old days". Everyone has memories to share. My mom tells about her childhood stockings and talks about her parents and siblings, my sister and I share our funny little antics, our grown sons and husbands recall their Christmas capers, and now our grandchildren are making their own holiday memories. The younger ones actually enjoy listening to us "old folks" spinning their tales. Even though our grandchildren are young, they are learning to tell Christmas stories. The best part is that we spend quality time together and share a lot of laughs by reminiscing about past holidays and the funny things that have happened to everyone throughout the years.

I take tons of pictures, which can get kind of overwhelming at times. But I look back at pictures of my babies and it amazes me how you forget certain things. I do photobooks with all my pictures. Just don't let it pile up so you have ten books to do at the same time. There is so many websites that offer free books. You just have to search for them.

  1047. mannequin on November 29, 2008 at 6:55 p.m.

I don't care for "staged" shots so I always tell the kids that the camera is malfunctioning and I need to take some "test" shots. That causes them to really ham it up which makes the best shots.

taking pictures is like a treasure for me. we have had two children die and the pictures we have of them are priceless.

  1065. Jeanette Valvano on November 30, 2008 at 1:58 p.m.

Take as many pictures as you can so you can remember that special day. Also pass the camera around so you can be in some of the pictures so you don't have to be left out. When my parents passed away my sisters and I were looking through pictures and we hardly had pictures of our parents cause they either were taking the pictures or didn't want to be in them. Would love to have pictures of them now for the grandkids who never met them. Thanks for the great giveaway!!!

  1066. Ann on November 30, 2008 at 2:24 p.m.

Get the pictures developed ASAP and ALWAYS!!!!! put the year on. Wish my parents had done this years ago because now I have the fun task of going through lots of family pictures (some 50+ years old) and trying to figure out when they were taken and in some cases, who is in the pictures.

  1071. Heather R. on December 1, 2008 at 7:12 a.m.

I still like to document the holidays the old fashioned way...with lots of photos! Then, I send the best ones to be printed and put them in an album. I also have a family blog that I update frequently with pictures so friends and family can take a peek to see what we have been up to.

  1072. darlene on December 1, 2008 at 7:24 a.m.

It never fails. Every time I go to use my old video, the batteries are dead, something malfunctions!! I guess it's time for a new one. Honestly, my husband is the videographer on holidays. He brings out the past year's videos on Christmas morning and the memories (and tears) flow. My kids are now preteens and they really enjoy watching the Christmas' from years past and seeing all of their family and how everyone has changed.

  1073. Heather on her travels on December 1, 2008 at 7:53 a.m.

I use Flickr to create an on-line holiday album that all my family can view, and then I can easily create postcards and other stationary from my Flickr pictres through Moo.

  1074. Kat on December 1, 2008 at 7:58 a.m.

My tip? Take lots of pictures (take multiples of everything so you can ensure getting the perfect shot), but be sure to upload them to the computer and weed the bad ones out ASAP. Otherwise, you end up with hundreds and hundreds of shots... and the longer you put off going through the pictures, the harder it is to do it! It's difficult to have to slog through countless shots when it comes down to choosing which ones to share with others.

  1075. elizabeth on December 1, 2008 at 8:26 a.m.

hmmm a holiday video tip....make sure EVERYONE knows you are recording so that nothing is said that no one wants repeated! :P

  1076. Wayne on December 1, 2008 at 8:35 a.m.

My favorite thing at big family holidays is to get some decorative paper, and get everyone to write down something about the day. Then I get snapshots of everyone throughout the day, and then put them in a book, makes for fun memories!

  1082. Tooty on December 1, 2008 at 12:36 p.m.

  1085. Laney on December 1, 2008 at 1:39 p.m.

My big tip is to not worry so much about getting the "pefect" picture (or pictures). So your son/daughter has a little bit of chocolate smudged in the corner of his mouth and theare still holding the food they got that smudge from...snap that picture anyway! Or your daughter's/son's hair is winging to one side, but they have the most delicious smile on their face while they are talking about what they got for Christmas.

Don't stop capturing memories to fix little flaws - you'll be happier you didn't in the long run, and no one will remember you as the ne going arund primping everyone before they had their picture taken! Less chance of people hiding when tey see you with a camera that way, too! *laughs*

Don't worry about perfect hair, or clothes all in place - get those smiles, those laughs, and that fun captured, because those moments are the ones you will want to remember for years to come - and they are also the moments that fly away too quickly!

I try to always be discreet while filming or taking pictures, I find that I get much better shots and footage that way. Of course we do also "pose" for a few family shots. I try my best to never allow an unflattering picture or video clip of someone to circulate and that makes people more relaxed and have less aversion to "paparazzi" me. I would love to win this camera, fingers crossed and prayers said! Thank you for hosting this site.

We take lots of photos and share photobooks online.

I love to take pictures- I have yet to venture into the realm of video, but would love to try.....Instead of scrap books I could make DVD's!

I have asked Santa for this exact gift. Hopefully he will come early this year.
    Thanks so much.

With a new little one I am constantly trying to snap photos of him. Hubby doesn't understand, but I keep my camera in my purse for those spontaneous pictures when he's being adorable.
You never know when you're going to get "the first" shots.

I love to get other people's pictures to scrapbook with my own. It's pretty neat to get other people's perspectives on family get togethers!

Theres taking pictures and videos, yes. Those are ways to keep memories. But also writing about it is a good way. My family keeps a book/blog and we all take turns after every event that happens like a holiday, birthday, etc. The blog/book is hung up in our living room. its a fun little idea if you want to cherish things if you don't have cameras or video cams like my family. :(
