We've long been fans of Land's End. The brand has represented quality ever since I was a child. Now that I have kids of my own, I get each of them a pair of their unique Lined Pants each winter. I like them because they keep my kids little legs warm without the struggle of lots of layers.

With the Winter Ski Season fast approaching, Lands End has generously offered to outfit one very lucky kid with a complete winter outfit valued at over $200. You provide a shirt and some socks, and your child will be ready to hit the slopes.

Here's what's included:

  1. Windfall Jacket (Girls or Boys)
  2. Big Kids' Windfall Bib
  3. Windfall Gloves
  4. Windfall Hat
  5. Snow Flurry Boots

My son was not old enough last year to do much outdoors so this year, I can't wait to find some snow to introduce him to.

  2. Cindy on October 20, 2008 at 4:06 a.m.

Good ole' fashioned fun outside building snow forts and snow men is our favorite here in PA! Of course so is the hot chocolate afterwards.

  3. Barbara Baker on October 20, 2008 at 5:54 a.m.

I absolutely love sitting outside with some nice hot coffee (cocoa for the kids) and enjoying the nippy mornings and evenings as winter aproaches. When winter is in full force, I love snuggling in bed with the whole family watching a movie we can all enjoy and just hanging out together while the wind howls outside...just perfect!!!!

    PS- Great giveaway!!!!

  4. Katrina on October 20, 2008 at 5:59 a.m.

We love going to the annual Festival of Lights at our Zoo and Botanical Gardens. They cover the entire zoo with lights. You can visit real reindeer, ice skate on the rink they set up, drink hot cocoa or hot cider, and eat cookies from a local bakery! It is a special treat.

  5. Shannon on October 20, 2008 at 6:21 a.m.

It snows about once every seven years in Louisiana. So, our favorite winter activity is lighting the fireplace a few times each year We sit on the floor as a family enjoying homemade hot chocolate and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies while having a movie night.

Maybe if we win this outfit, Little CajunMama and I can take ski lessons together!

  6. Kathy Rambousek on October 20, 2008 at 6:58 a.m.

Wow - I'd love to win this one! It's hard to pict our favorite winter activity. Last year we all went skiing. I grew up on skis, but it was my boys' first time. They're already talking about going again. We don't get a lot of snow here in town, but we are plagued with ice. My boys love sliding down hills in whatever they can find. A few years ago it was in recycling bins.

  7. Colleen on October 20, 2008 at 8:22 a.m.

The kids love to help shovel the driveway...and then knock the snow back on it while climbing the snow piles! They definitely need durable winter gear.

  8. Amanda on October 20, 2008 at 9:08 a.m.

My favorite winter activity is taking snowy walks with the kids when we visit the In Laws in Wisconsin. The kids love being out there, even though the temperatures are frigid.

  9. Meg (B2B) on October 20, 2008 at 10:40 a.m.

Last winter was spent being sick (just weaned) and learning to walk. The only winter-y thing we did was put chairs in front of the fireplace so M would not burn herself when we warmed our living room. This year, we will be in the NYC-WAS corridor for the holidays. I hope to show M the holiday decorations in Manhattan and Washington, DC. Personally, I want to squeeze in a Tahoe trip as well, but if the Euro keeps dropping, we may head to France.

  10. Kelly on October 20, 2008 at 10:41 a.m.

Last year my son just went out and sat in the snow, but I am definitely looking forward to starting my own traditions of playing in the snow, sledding, and having my children come back in to hot soup and hot chocolate.

  11. Mara on October 20, 2008 at 11:41 a.m.

My children love everything to do with snow, which we don't get too much of in Delaware. However, last Christmas we were in Wisconsin visiting family. Now it's pretty flat there, but my sister in law lives next to Mall Hill (or the big mount of earth that was left after the mall was built). There was tons of snow and my boys were out in it sliding down that hill for hours ever day. On the day when it was so cold we had to wear ski masks we just kept going inside to warm up and then going back out again. They couldn't get enough of going down that hill on an inner tube.

For obvious reasons, this prize would sure come in handy!

  12. jessiev on October 20, 2008 at 11:47 a.m.

what a great contest! we LOVE WINTER! we live on a lake, and work hard at shoveling off an ice rink (you have to tend it every few days; more if it keeps snowing). our 6yo daughter loves to ice skate, and often invites friends over. we have a huge bonfire on shore, with s'mores (have to eat them fast bc it is cold out), and have stools for beginning skaters to push around if they are just learning. it is so much fun!

  13. Fran on October 20, 2008 at 12:23 p.m.

This outfit would be for my son's first ski lessons out West this Christmas. We live in Florida and we spend pretty much all winter on our patio next to our cozy chimnea or playing with the kids in the backyard.

  14. Jen on October 20, 2008 at 12:29 p.m.

My favorite activity is sitting bundled up with my son and husband watching our town's Christmas parade. He loves watching the fire trucks and clowns pass by and its been a tradition in my family for as long as I can remember.

  15. Naomi on October 20, 2008 at 12:55 p.m.

I grew up in Hawaii, so winter is still sort of a challenge to me. My favorite winter activity is looking at the snow from inside where it's warm! Just joking. I actually like to take walks in the snow with the kids, listening to the crunch crunch under our feet.

  16. Carla Pullum on October 20, 2008 at 1:04 p.m.

We love to rent tubes at Mountain High Resort in California. They have an awsome tube park!

  17. Stacey on October 20, 2008 at 1:18 p.m.

Our favorite winter activity is ice skating on Lake Louise near Banff, Alberta. Every year they build a life size ice castle in the middle of the lake with lights and everything. You can skate in and out of it! The kids were on 'bob' skates last year- this will be their first year on 'big kid' skates!

  18. Jen on October 20, 2008 at 1:20 p.m.

  20. Chihana on October 20, 2008 at 2:04 p.m.

Our favorite winter activity is to bundle everyone up and go snowshoeing and sledding. We snowshoe off one of the beautiful snowshoeing trails right off of I-90 in Washington. The kids are usually happy being dragged on a sled or carried on a backpack. The trail goes around a beautiful frozen lake and we usually eat lunch right by the lake. Everyone has a great time.

  21. Angela C on October 20, 2008 at 2:20 p.m.

My favorite thing to do with the kids, is sit in the living room, late at night, when we are all in our pj's and watch the snow fall. Have the tv off, the lights down low, and only the Christmas tree lights on...it's so quiet and beautiful...just perfect!

  22. Carol on October 20, 2008 at 2:25 p.m.

  30. Jill L on October 20, 2008 at 3:14 p.m.

My favorite activity is going out and chopping down our Christmas tree. It always takes us so long wandering around looking for the perfect one and then it always looks a lot smaller than it really is. I love that the tree takes up 1/2 the room and so do the kids. When we get home, we always make hot cocoa and listen to Christmas songs.

  31. Nikki on October 20, 2008 at 3:15 p.m.

  39. Michele Cook on October 20, 2008 at 4:06 p.m.

My favorite thing to do with the kids during the winter, is to take them to the local Christmas parade. It's freezing cold and we have to have 2 layers of clothes on, sometimes go to the car to warm up but it is so much fun watching the kids faces when they see all the floats and then Santa.

    Thanks for the giveaway

  40. Margaret Smith on October 20, 2008 at 4:11 p.m.

Thank you so much for this wonderful and very generous giveaway. Our favorite is going sled riding and making snowmen (and snowwomen and snowkids). Thanks again for this great contest.

  41. Marilyn on October 20, 2008 at 4:12 p.m.

We live in Northern Michigan and I never got the opportunity to learn how to ski or ice skate as a child. My daughter is now 10 and has been taking ski for about 3 winters now. I am so proud of her. As times get tighter my five year old now wants to join, unfortuneately, it won't be possible this winter due to finances. My favorite winter activity is getting the opportunity to see my daughter do the things I never did. I am truly blessed already. Best of luck to everyone and whoever wins this will be thrilled.

  42. Tammy S on October 20, 2008 at 4:15 p.m.

Snow sledding and dog mushing would be my favorites, if we were to get any snow here in the deep south. Great giveaway!

  43. Julie Nusbaum on October 20, 2008 at 4:33 p.m.

I love taking the kids out to shovel the driveway and turning it into a snowball fight. Even the dog gets in on the action chasing the snowballs.

  44. Brenda Elsworth on October 20, 2008 at 4:54 p.m.

we love collecting "clean snow" and making flavored slushies out of them :)

  45. Lois on October 20, 2008 at 5:30 p.m.

We love shoveling believe it or not. The boys are so cute with their little mini size shovels and they love helping their daddy. If only they didn't keep putting the snow back in the driveaway. LOL!

  46. Sue on October 20, 2008 at 5:41 p.m.

My favorite winter activity is waiting for snow to come. My son and I run to the store for videos and snacks then curl up on the couch waiting for the first flakes.

  47. sandy on October 20, 2008 at 5:48 p.m.

love making snowman and angels but also when there is a snowout where no school going out and snowball fights going tobagoning and having a blast

My favorite activity is sledding, we have a really cool sledding hill in my town which all the kids love because its really big! And its always nice to then go home, cozy up with a blanket and some tea and cocoa to warm up and read a book!

  50. Christal Doane on October 20, 2008 at 6:06 p.m.

The Grand Illumination is a favorite ours. It takes place in Downtown richmond Virginia and its wonderful. The streets are all lit up with snowmen, Animals, Trees, you name it they light it up! They also light the tree at the Governers mansion which is beautiful! We love winter, there is much more that I could list lol.

  51. Kathleen on October 20, 2008 at 6:14 p.m.

I love the simple activities of winter, like playing in the snow or just being outside. We love to go out walking right after a snowfall, when even the roads are covered with snow. It might be a little harder now with a 6 month old, but we're going to try.

  52. Catalina on October 20, 2008 at 6:15 p.m.

What would winter be without sledding down a steep hill while it is lightly snowing? And what about making a snowman? Winter is the best-est time of all.

  53. Dawn Fiske on October 20, 2008 at 6:17 p.m.

My favorite activity is making snow angels....lots of them all through the yard, then going in for some fresh hot apple cider (luke warm for the kids)

  54. Kristan on October 20, 2008 at 6:17 p.m.

Anything that gets the babies in the snow was fun last year - I think they'll like it even more this year...if we get any snow (we've since moved to warmer weather). I can't wait until next year when we can get them on skates, too!

  55. Kate on October 20, 2008 at 6:21 p.m.

  57. Julie on October 20, 2008 at 6:41 p.m.

We took our little one out skiing last year when she was just a little over two. We rented the littlest skis and boots and helmet and spent the day on a hill by her grandparents house in New Hampshire. She looked adorable.
Otherwise, I love watching her and all of her cousins make snow angels in the yard.

  58. Tonya Froemel on October 20, 2008 at 6:42 p.m.

  65. Baba on October 20, 2008 at 7:36 p.m.

We love winter. Often we visit the downtown stores to see all the window displays at Christmas, or we like to take a walk during the quiet evening time to see the sparkling ice and snow crystals as they glisten on all the trees (magical), or skiing at Monarch or Breckenridge with lots of hot chocolate waiting when we are done. Building snowmen in the front yard. Winter is a magical time of year at our house.

Most of all, we love to build snowmen. This year my daughter has informed me she is also going to make a snow dog, snow cat, snow bunny, snow bird, and snow squirrel just like in Margaret Wise Brown's book "Animals in the Snow." Hopefully, we'll get enough snow (and a new winter outfit to keep her warm!)

  72. Renee C. on October 20, 2008 at 8:14 p.m.

Last year was our 2nd year in PA and it was really our first year with snow. The kids enjoyed their sleds, on one of their snow days. I think they enjoyed the hot chocolate with marshmallows even more. Not much call for hot chocolate in MS, so this is a simple pleasure for them as well.

  73. Linda (minnemom) on October 20, 2008 at 8:15 p.m.

We love going to my parents' to sled down the special hill my dad makes when he clears the snow away. He cuts off the top of the snow hill so there's a sled-loading area, and then backs the loader down the hill so it's smooth sailing all the way.

  74. Elizabeth on October 20, 2008 at 8:31 p.m.

Last winter we didn't do much more than look at the snow, but this winter we're looking forward to playing. I think Edden will love sledding! We'll also visit the local zoo's zoolights exhibit again, and just enjoy seeing the local parks transformed by snow.

  75. Rachel on October 20, 2008 at 8:41 p.m.

Our favorite winter activity is sledding in the city park down a big hill near the duck pond.

  76. Kimberly on October 20, 2008 at 8:52 p.m.

Our favorite activity has to be taking the sleds to the big hill next to our building and going sledding. It's a REALLY high hill and the kids zip down so quickly so my husband and I have to stay at the bottom to catch them. Sometimes if it's icy enough they can go down the hill without a sled. Even our dog enjoys the activity. He has fun chasing the kids.

Afterwards the kids take a nice warm bath or shower and then get into warm, dry clothes and enjoy some mint flavored hot chocolate.

    Thanks for an AWESOME giveaway!

  77. Kerri on October 20, 2008 at 9:15 p.m.

This year, we are taking our 3 yo daughter skiing! We live near Denver, so we have easy access to all the slopes, gear, etc. We'll be taking her to Copper Mtn...our fav. resort near Denver. My mom will be keeping her (and baby bro) in the condo when she poops out from the snow.

  117. Alexa on October 21, 2008 at 6:13 a.m.

Sledding down the walking trails at the park. They went steeply downhill towards the river and you had to be quick to bail at the end or you slid into the bog. It was very exciting, very Indiana Jones in my mind at the time.

  118. Susan C on October 21, 2008 at 6:16 a.m.

Last year my two year old granddaughter and I made a snowman-we had so much fun! I hope we get some snow this year so I can take her sledding!

Sleigh Riding, we have some mighty fine hill around us and after a good snow fall you will see many families enjoying this activity.

  120. Sandy on October 21, 2008 at 6:33 a.m.

We love to go to my parents house and sled ride down the back yard hill. Grandma always has hot chocolate ready for everyone when we all finally decide to come in from the cold. The kids love to sit by the fireplace and play a game of checkers with the oversized carpet/checkerboard.

  121. pamr on October 21, 2008 at 6:35 a.m.

my neighbor and his family would put these to good use

  123. LauraJ on October 21, 2008 at 7:02 a.m.

My DD was not yet 2 last winter. We have a small hill in our yard and she loved sledding down on one of those round flying saucer sleds and then hiking back up. This winter we'll try the larger hill at the local playground as well, though I'm sure we'll still get lots of use out of our little hill!

  124. Mel H on October 21, 2008 at 7:05 a.m.

Winters in Buffalo are harsh! But that doesn't stop my 5 year old. She loves to Sled but most importantly make Snowman families! While waiting for me to fix a self-made hill in our back yard, she made a little family of snow people on hubby's car.

  125. Brooke on October 21, 2008 at 7:07 a.m.

My husbend loves to go out with the kids and make snow forts and snowmen. I'm blessed to have a "big kid" to help them with outdoor activities. As a kid my sister and I would spend all day out building a town of roads with our sleds. I miss those days;)

  138. Cecelia on October 21, 2008 at 8 a.m.

I just found your site today and am a big fan. If you ever want to work together, guest posts etc. please contact me. I love to enter giveaways since I'm usually the one hosting and agree it would be nice to get some of these great prizes!

My favorite winter activity is a non-activity...sitting by the fireplace with snow coming down chilling with the kids and maybe even some hot coco is what winter is all about to me. Almost (but not quite) makes me look forward to snow. :)

my girls are only 17 months, but my favorite winter activity last year was letting them touch the snow! they were just delighted and amazed. i'm so looking forward to a snowy, wintery day this year now that they are walking!

  149. Melissa on October 21, 2008 at 8:30 a.m.

The best winter activity takes place on the day you least expect it: the day it snows in your neighborhood and the schools are closed. The kids get their gear on and go outside to sled down the hills with the neighborhood kids. It feels like good old fashioned fun when the kids are all squealing with excitement and the adults can all congregate with their coffee and cocos.

  150. valerie mabrey on October 21, 2008 at 8:30 a.m.

sledding is my favorite and smores by the fire second

  152. Kari A. on October 21, 2008 at 8:41 a.m.

Our favorite snow activity is to take the kids to the local inner tube park. You rent those ugly huge inner tubes and hike up to the top of an "age appropriate" hill, hop in and pray, I mean enjoy the trip down!! We live in the mountains so this prize is so perfect!!

  153. Michelle on October 21, 2008 at 8:42 a.m.

We love to go sledding or have snowball fights. This prize would be terrific for my daughter who is in desperate need of new snow clothes this winter, especially before she leaves on her winter retreat in January.

  157. Marci on October 21, 2008 at 8:57 a.m.

  158. Nicole Feliciano on October 21, 2008 at 8:57 a.m.

We have a tradition of skiing at Solitude Resort in Utah. They have an AWESOME kids program. Last year my 2 yo got up on skis and loved it! This will help encourage her joy of the outdoors--staying warm is key to kiddie happiness.

And I've got a fun little contest running too:

This will be the first winter that we can get back to our old winter activity of snowshoeing. Everyone is now walking, so we can manage this winter. I'm so excited. Winning this give-a-way would be perfect. Thanks for the fun.....

  160. Jennifer on October 21, 2008 at 8:59 a.m.

This winter is going to be extra special. Everyone is walking, so we can all go out and enjoy some snow shoeing. Can't wait. Hope we win....thanks for the fun...

  161. Christy on October 21, 2008 at 8:59 a.m.

There's a great sleigh ride at Sun Mountain Lodge in the Methow Valley (WA). Otherwise, we like the usual stuff -- building snowpeople, making angels, throwing snowballs, and sledding. When the snow is right, sometimes our brother-in-law builds an igloo, which all the kids love.

  162. dianne on October 21, 2008 at 9:03 a.m.

It's not an outdoor activity- but I love when the family gathers on Christmas Eve and we all spend time together and watch the kids get excited for their morning!

  163. stacey on October 21, 2008 at 9:08 a.m.

My son is just 13 months old right now so last year we didn't see too much wintertime action geared towards him. BUT, the thing I look forward to so much is just making snow angels and sledding and building snow forts as a family. I just remember being so cold I couldn't stand it, but wanting to keep playing outside anyways with the promise that there was always something hot waiting for me inside. I can't wait to have my kids be able to come up with their own fun ideas for snow fun!

  164. Babyluxe Dana on October 21, 2008 at 9:09 a.m.

Our favorite winter activity does not involve snow since we live in southern NC, but on a nice crisp Dec. day we go out and cut down our own Christmas Tree as a family. The entire day is filled with walking in the woods, drinking hot chocolate, searching for the perfect tree, and sitting by the fire roasting marshmallows. It's our little tradition that we cherish and have so much fun with!
    Awesome giveaway!

  165. oona on October 21, 2008 at 9:09 a.m.

Going to the park ! I am a stay-at-home mom of three and we love going to the park in the fall and winter (there are several in our area to choose from) partly because it is deserted with so many kids enrolled in public and private schools. No, the kids aren't antisocial, but they like to occasionally have the swings and slides all to themselves instead of waiting their turn like they have to do in the summer.

It's lots of laughs, plus you always meet a new friend or two. When we get home we usually have something warm to eat like soup and watch movies...those days are always the Perfect day!

Our favorite activity with the kids is to bundle everybody up, grab the sleds, and go for a winter walk. It's very cheap, great exercise, and great family bonding time. Then on our way home we sometimes stop at the gas station to get a snack and my son looks like it's the greatest most exciting gift ever =)

My husband has declared me and my son "Snowflakes" as any hint of snow in the forecast makes us pace back and forth to the window to see if any flakes are falling. We looove sledding, so usually drive east of Seattle on I-90 to a forest access road. Occasionally we're priviledged to visit relatives in Alaska. The kids still talk about how in Alaska the air "sparkles with diamonds" and they get hot cocoa with candy canes. I love reading everyone's ideas.

Hands down our favorite activity is a snowman making contest! Every family member has to sculpt a snowperson that represents them and then we take silly photos of each person standing next to their snowdoppelganger. If snow and energy permit, we also make pet snowsculptures to join our snowfamily! Then everyone heads inside for cocoa, cookies and a roaring fire - a really fun day for us all!

  289. Trevor on October 22, 2008 at 5:36 p.m.

Hey this is a great giveaway!

One of the things our family enjoys each winter is the parade of lights each Christmas season. We gather up grandparents and warm clothes and head downtown.

Even though it is cold and sometimes snowy the whole family enjoys watching the parade. The creative way people decorate up their floats, cars and horses with Christmas lights is amazing.

The kids or course like to gather up the candy thrown their way!

The ride home is always full of fun talking about all the great things we saw. Then we get to look forward to next year.

    Bring on the winter fun!

I just love to take the children to one of Michigan’s great lakes and go ice fishing. To see there eyes get so big, and there face with amazement that we are driving and then walking on the ice that in the summer they were swimming in. When we cut the hole in the ice, and they see the water, they just can’t figure out how we still can stand and not fall in. The most fun is when they catch a fish; they just don’t understand why the fish do not freeze. There little minds and thoughts are in fantasy land. It is so much fun.

  299. Marie Fink on October 23, 2008 at 2:35 a.m.

One of my favorite winter activities is to go to Old Bethpage Village Christmas Candlelight Nights. You need to bring (or buy when you get there) flashlights or lanterns and walk around the restored village in the evening. They have guided tours of the many buildings. People in vintage clothing describe what life why back when. Several groups of singers roam around. We usually warm up at the huge fire pit which is outside the "General Store / Bar" where you can by hot apple cider. It is a nice family activity the older kids usually play flash light tag around the houses and woods. Here is a link to the village. http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencie...

  305. Sarah Hirsch on October 23, 2008 at 7:38 a.m.

    What great stuff!
My favorite winter activity...it's a tie. The old classics - building a snowman and going sledding. We found a giant hill last year that was a blast going down on a sled! (Not as much fun walking back up, but hey, that's part of the process, right?)

  306. Heather on October 23, 2008 at 8 a.m.

Last year the kids in the neighborhood and my husband and another Dad built a huge snowfort in our yard. The kids did get tired and had a snowball fight and the "Big Kids (the two Dads)" just kept building the fort. I made a huge pot or hot chocolate for all to enjoy after the fort was built. Lots of fun and pictures to enjoy in years to come when they are all grown up (including the dads if they ever grow up).

My twin sons are just getting old enough to enjoy outdoor winter activities. I'm looking forward to building snowmen with them this winter. Thanks!

  329. jen on October 24, 2008 at 12:41 p.m.

My favorite activity to do outside with my kids is making a snowman in the front yard. Even more fun if we can make two!

  332. Debra F on October 24, 2008 at 1:25 p.m.

We love to go sledding down the hill that is just around the block. The entire neighborhood is there on a snow day and it's just a blast!

Great giveaway and hope to win.

  333. Ginny on October 24, 2008 at 1:46 p.m.

I'm not an outdoors person, so I love giving the girls hot chocolate after THEY play outside in the snow!

  334. Karen on October 24, 2008 at 2:06 p.m.

This will be Megan's first winter. She was born last November and is now crawling and starting to walk. I think by the time she does walk, it'll snow. I cant wait for it to snow so we can make snow angels together.

  335. Amanda Caruthers on October 24, 2008 at 2:07 p.m.

We go watch the Christmas parades. When it snows we have snowball fights and make snowmen.

I don't have any memories yet since my little one hasnt been born yet but I bet my nephew would love these clothes!

Building snowmen & snowfairies & snowpuppies while trying to find the funniest or 'best' shaped things in nature to add to our creations--like acorns, pinecones, dead plant stalks,
different colored rocks, etc. The more creative the better and a good way to teach kids about the cycles of growth in nature.

    Snowball fights

  339. Rachel D on October 24, 2008 at 6:46 p.m.

  340. Cori Westphal on October 24, 2008 at 6:49 p.m.

Snow forts! I love making a snow fort with my kids after the first few big snows. I made them with my brother when I was a kid and I love passing the tradition on. Thanks for the great contest!

  341. Kasey on October 24, 2008 at 7:12 p.m.

There is nothing better then a day full of sledding, making snowpeople and drinking hot cocoa, this would be a great prize to help keep the chill off

WOW! What an incredibly generous giveaway! I love Land's End...their coats are such good quality! One of our favorite activities with the kids is to build 2 snowforts and then one kid teams up with Mom and the other teams up with Dad..and we have a big snowball fight! We look forward to it every year! Thank you so much for the chance to win this!!

  344. Tasha on October 24, 2008 at 8:26 p.m.

Last year my son was just old enough to really enjoy the snow. We all loved going sledding at the park down the street and it was so hard to get him back home. To top that off my husband just had to get a hot chocolate maker and we would go inside turn on the machine and make a nice warm cup of hot coco for everyone.

  345. Monica D on October 24, 2008 at 8:27 p.m.

My kids love when I break out the spray bottles. I fill them with water and a little food coloring and they "paint" the snow and their snowmen. We live in an area where we get 100+ inches of snow every year so you have to get outside and play at least a little everyday or cabin fever really sets in!

  346. Jennifer M on October 25, 2008 at 7:16 a.m.

Sledding down the hill onto the frozen lake.

  347. Karina on October 25, 2008 at 7:30 a.m.

My husband and I are expecting our daughter any day now (I'm currently 38 weeks pregnant) but we are already talking about how wonderful it will be to take her to the snow and to ski as soon as she is old enough to do so. We love Land's End and hope they have something that will fit an infant :)

  348. Sandy on October 25, 2008 at 8:12 a.m.

Making snowmen ... it's safe! And we can drag them in to warm up if it gets too cold (they're just toddlers).

  349. Katie Anthony on October 25, 2008 at 9:36 a.m.

Our favorite activity is by far the festival of lights in New Haven, CT. We go every year and my 4 year old is just blown away by it.

We also patiently await the arrival of the first snow to make our infamous lop-sided snowmen. We try to decorate our snowmen as funny as we can. I love it!

    Thanks for the contest!

  350. Chris on October 25, 2008 at 11:01 a.m.

My girl LOVES playing outside! Last winter she was too little, but she'd spend hours at our sliding glass windows staring outside. She's going to love the snow this winter. I imagine we'll make lots of snowman and angels and spend find a sledding hill or 2. I can't wait until she's a bit older and we can start skiing because that's my favorite winter activity!

  351. Joshua on October 25, 2008 at 11:02 a.m.

Our favourite winter activity has been creating our own puzzles. Obviously this needs some adult supervision, but it'll easily take the afternoon and is a whole lot of fun. Just draw a picture, past it to cardboard and cut it out! It is so much fun to try and get the picture back together again!

  352. Melanie on October 25, 2008 at 11:19 a.m.

We just love to play outside in our backyard in the snow and built snowmen.

  353. Heather B on October 25, 2008 at 11:31 a.m.

oh I LOVE the painting snow idea we will have to try that this winter. We like to go outside and build snow forts. we have a pretty big heal next to the house and as i kid I always built forts there now my kids and I get to do it!

  354. Stacy on October 25, 2008 at 11:33 a.m.

It has to be the snowball fights! We have such fun!

  355. christina on October 25, 2008 at 11:37 a.m.

I love making snow angels with the kids. it's the simplest winter fun there is.

  356. Carly on October 25, 2008 at 11:41 a.m.

About 6 years ago, while roasting marshmallows, my niece asked me, "how do they make marshmallows?" We looked it up and gave it try, now every 2 or 3 weeks all winter long we make batches of marshmallows to have in our hot chocolate. (I may occasionally eat a plain one, or two.)

  357. Lois S on October 25, 2008 at 11:41 a.m.

The first snow is always the Best! We break out "let it snow" on the CD, call all family members to help celebrate and enjoy hot chocolate!

  359. Michele P. on October 25, 2008 at 11:55 a.m.

My daughter and I live near a nice hill, where we can go sledding (actually most of the town comes there to do the same thing!) since mom can't slide as much as she'd like to-we practice making snow angels in the backyard!

  360. Meaghan on October 25, 2008 at noon

We love to go see the Christmas Boat Parade in DC. It's a very low-key and free holiday event. :) Great giveaway!

  361. VHMPrincess on October 25, 2008 at noon

The kids go skiing w/their grandparents at the end of every winter. We have been doing it for years and it is wonderful for them to have a week together without work and school interrupting. The bonding is great and everyone gets so much exercise and has so much fun!

  362. Sarah on October 25, 2008 at 12:01 p.m.

So far, my favorite winter activity to do with my son is just to get out and play in the snow, feeling it, smelling it, building with it. He's still filled with wonder each year at what it is and where it came from!

  363. Janell on October 25, 2008 at 12:07 p.m.

They were too young last year but we would love to go snow sledding.

  364. Meerkat on October 25, 2008 at 12:11 p.m.

Well, my son will be a toddler this winter and I can't wait to take him to see the lights decorating all of downtown for Christmas!

  365. Anna on October 25, 2008 at 12:18 p.m.

Favorite winter activity with kids - sledding!! I love to see their cheeks get rosy-red and there's nothing like breathing crisp fresh air! If I win I will get this in a size for next winter since my baby is only 8 months now. We're really enjoying the cooler weather, but he won't likely be sitting or playing in snow this year, since he can't walk yet.

  366. Rebecca on October 25, 2008 at 12:26 p.m.

In winter for us, it's to go even further north to cottage country. There's an excellent little cabin we rent where we can really appreciate all the snow (and don't have to deal with the gray, salted, mushy stuff that's all around the city). My little one especially likes going for walks 'on the water'. Walking across a frozen lake is a real treat for her.

  367. Maggie on October 25, 2008 at 12:36 p.m.

Our backyard backs up to the "retention pond" for the neighborhood. It has never had a bit of stnading water in it, and in the winter, the angle of the sides of the "pond" is perfect for safe, but fast, sledding. When our kids were younger, our favorite activity was watching the older kids from our neighborhood speed down the hill. Now that they're old enough to do it themselves, watching them is MY favorite winter activity!

  368. Sarah on October 25, 2008 at 12:39 p.m.

I love the previous comment of the spray bottles. This is the first year my kids will be old enough to enjoy the snow. I have a feeling the large slope will be tons of fun.

  369. barbara on October 25, 2008 at 12:43 p.m.

We would love this. My little guy loves being outdoors. We are hoping to take him to Tahoe a lot this year to play in the snow.

  370. Marla on October 25, 2008 at 12:56 p.m.

I actually like to shovel and, last year my daughter loved to "help."

  371. Donjia on October 25, 2008 at 1:02 p.m.

Every year we attend our family Christmas reunion. The cabin it is held at is on a Golf Course. This means there are tons of wide open hills for the kids to sled on the whole day. We enjoy catching up with family members who travel from all over to attend. Everyone brings food and drinks to share and Santa comes to visit later in the day bearing gifts for the children. It gives us all a terrific winter tradition to look forward to.

  372. Chan on October 25, 2008 at 1:07 p.m.

I can't wait to teach my son how to make a snowman this year. I think he will have so much fun. Thanks for the giveaway!

  373. Gretchen Ree on October 25, 2008 at 1:15 p.m.

We love ice skating in the back yard. In fact, it is almost time for us to set up our ice rink and start filling it with water! Its one of those activities that as a former Californian, is just too neat to pass up! And we could always use new winter clothes as those kids of mine have a habit of growing!

  374. Artzijen on October 25, 2008 at 1:26 p.m.

Our family are big snowmobilers. My sons love to ride in front and act like they are driving.

  375. Patti Lalley on October 25, 2008 at 1:27 p.m.

We are in the DC suburbs where it doesn't snow as much...BUT our 6 y.o. son loves sledding...whether it be on the hill of our front yard or the hills of the local park. And although it's more of a holiday activity, as a family, we like to drive around at night and see the Xmas lights up in the neighborhood.

Thx for such a great give-a-way!

I love it when we hitch the sled to the lawnmower and go for a ride in the yard

  380. Christy on October 25, 2008 at 2:10 p.m.

Every year at Christmas we go home and visit my family in CO. Right in front of my dad's house is the perfect sledding hill for our preschool aged kids. They sled for hours! We take turns riding with them down the hill, or pulling the sled back up. I'm not really a play outside in the snow kind of person, but we all look forward to the Christmas sledding!

  381. kristin on October 25, 2008 at 2:13 p.m.

This will be our first Christmas in Germany with the kids! We'll be learning more about my husband's German Christmas customs like: Multiple Christmas days, putting the tree up on the 24th, and eating hot dogs for dinner ... lots of hot dogs for dinner. Most of all, I'm looking forward to watching my husband at his first "that side of the family" Christmas in five years and introducing the kids to SNOW.

  382. Rabia on October 25, 2008 at 2:21 p.m.

  386. Tamrah T. on October 25, 2008 at 2:49 p.m.

Growing up in the pacific northwest, we always had snow and plenty of it for months of fun: snow forts, sledding, snow angels,... Now my kiddos don't have all that available to them here in the southwest. But, we continue to take a day's drive more northern just so they know what snow is about. They're just content to make snow balls and eat them!

  387. Jill A on October 25, 2008 at 3:06 p.m.

My son loves to eat freshly fallen snow. I know this may not be sanitary, but there is no way to have him play while it is snowing without him opening his mouth and catching the snowflakes. He also likes to make a snowball and lick it. Adding maple syrup (the real stuff, no fake stuff allowed) adds some fun to this little "tradition" he has developed. :) You can also make your own "snow candy" by using ice cubes and crushing them in a blender and adding some real maple syrup.

My family loves sledding and making snowmen!

  389. Jess on October 25, 2008 at 3:23 p.m.

My daughter's favorite activity is playing outside in the snow--anything, honestly, as long as she is outside. MY job is to provide the hot chocolate when she is done.

She likes hot chocolate so much that she has tried to go outside again so she can come back for more hot chocolate!

  390. Misty on October 25, 2008 at 3:29 p.m.

My daughter is still fairly young, so so far our favorite winter activity has just been getting out and experiencing snow. Seeing it fall from the sky, trying to walk through it, feeling some of it in the hand...all of it is wonderous to new eyes.

  392. Jennifer on October 25, 2008 at 4 p.m.

One of my favorite winter activities is snowshoeing! You get to see some great stuff out on the trails and there is practically no one else out there. Then we stop for hot chocolate on the way home and it never tastes better.

  393. S Cluff on October 25, 2008 at 4:05 p.m.

We look forward to Brookfield Zoo's Zoolights in Chicago every year at the holidays.
Another favorite is taking a walk at night, when the moon is full. When it shines on the snow, it seems magical!

  394. sarah e on October 25, 2008 at 4:08 p.m.

My favorite winter activity is choosing a live christmas tree and then bringing it home and putting up the decorations. This year my two year old is going to make the decorations himself - fun!!

  395. Autumn on October 25, 2008 at 4:20 p.m.

When we shovel the walks, we usually put most of the snow in a huge pile on one side of the driveway. This means the kids can create a little mountain to sled down even when we don't have time to actually take them sledding. Sometimes they don't even bother getting out the sleds and saucers. They just slide down their little mini sled run on their bottoms.

We started out doing it every year the evening of Thanksgiving but now it has become more of a one a month thing. The sundaes are getting more elaborate every year! The kids also love hot cocoa made with Nutella...ymmmmm.

I have a picture of my son the first time he was old enough (about 1 1/2 years) to notice snow. He has on black gloves and the cutest hand knitted hat, full of color. He's holding his hands out and has the most amazed look on his face while he's staring at these snowflakes falling onto his hands. It is the most priceless picture! I can't wait for snow this year to answer all of his thousand questions!!

  421. Audrey on October 25, 2008 at 9:23 p.m.

My girls love to help 'shovel' when it snows. They pile it up and make angels and snowmen. Since it doesn't snow as much as we'd like here, we shovel the neighbors' sidewalks to help them out while benefit from a bigger pile of snow to play with.

  422. Diana on October 25, 2008 at 9:42 p.m.

We would love to win this since we just moved to Oregon from sunny southern California (and we're freezing already!) Not having had real winter before now, we haven't had any favorite winter activities, unless you can count drinking hot chocolate while watching Mary Poppins!

  426. Sarah on October 25, 2008 at 10:48 p.m.

Making snow "ice cream" - find fresh, clean snow and scooping it into a bowl, then adding maple syrup and mixing it up for a snowy treat. It's so much fun to make those first tracks in newly fallen snow.

  434. Erin Daly on October 26, 2008 at 6:59 a.m.

We have a tradition in our family of making a family of snow-people and then decorating them. Last year was the first year that my toddler could really get in to the act. This year we will be adding one more to our growing snow-people family as we have a new baby due at Thanksgiving!

  435. Katie on October 26, 2008 at 7:07 a.m.

We love spending time outside in all seasons. In the winter we love to go sledding, make snow angels and snow people. We also like to go on hikes when it's snowy and quiet in the woods.

Of course, playing in the snow, but when they are too cold, and can't go out-I get a big plastic tub and bring in a huge tub of snow. They play with it for hours. Of course, they have to keep it in the tub or just right there of course. They take their actions figures and animals and bury them in the "avalanche".

We love to take our daughter to this nearby neighborhood for the crazy Christmas lights and then celebrate by getting some caramel apple cider at the coffee shop before heading home. It's a tradition we look forward to every year.

We also like to lie in the snow and stare at the snow as it comes down. This winter she'll be 2.5 so maybe we'll be more active than years past but so far, that's the stuff we've done and loved best.

Well it doesn't get too snowy here in Dallas. OK, it may snow a day or two, but it's not the winter wonderland you might find elsewhere. It does get cold, so to usher in the holiday season we head to Northpark Mall to see the trains on display there. They do this every year. The ticket prices are pretty cheap and the proceeds benefit Ronald MacDonald house. Every year they have a display of small electric trains. Thomas is even there if you look for him. The miniature city scape is fascinating for the little (and not so little) ones. It's our holiday / winter tradition.

Our favorite and cross-culturally shocking winter activity was our first train trip in Ukraine to the ski "resort" in Slavska. We didn't know what to expect with the train, the accommodations, anything. . . But it was an adventure! Hubby is the only one who went skiing, and I played out in the deep snow with the boys (who were ages 1, 3, 4 and 5 at the time.)

Now that we live in Florida, our favorite winter activity is going to the beach on warm days. . . *evil grin*

My husband picked up a vintage sled at a thrift store, and last year -- our first year living with kids in a cold climate -- we pulled it out on a snowy Saturday and headed to Prospect Park (Brooklyn). With the other throngs of parents/kids we made our way to the hills, and up/down we went. I was pregnant so I sat it out, but our 3-year-old son was thrilled at having such an adventure with his daddy. At some point, we stopped and pulled out our thermos of hot chocolate for a snack. All three of us sat perched on the sled at the top of the hill, steam rising from our cups. It really was such a wonderful winter memory.

  510. Ken on October 27, 2008 at 6:13 a.m.

It doesn't get any better than that :)

Outdoors, that is our favorite place any time of year. We have five very active children ranging in ages from 9 yrs to 16 mons. I had a friend once describe them as . . . they are full of ginger. If we stay in the house too much then we all go completely crazy - including winter. We have a stash of summer toys and a stash of winter toys so we can take advantage of any season. During the winter they especially love their kid size shovels and digging their own paths through the driveway, yard, etc. We can always guarantee that when we go out to shovel the drive, we will have a few stragglers coming up behind us asking to help. We don't mind a bit as the outdoors is the only way to keep children as healthy as they should be during the winter, summer, spring and fall.

We've lived in the South for the past 2 years, so we haven't had much in the way of "traditional" winter activity. But, we made do with what we had by going to see soapy artificial "snow" at the Birmingham Zoo and in the town of Celebration, FL, just outside Disney World.

Favorite winter kids events? The first time I ever brought my then 3-year old cousin out in the snowfall, we let a flake land on her mitten and asked her..."what do you think that is?" She paused. "uhhh... mosquito?"

Vermont rules! It's the place to go with the entire family, and where my granddaughter had her first skiing experience at age 2, then little sister came along. Now we can bring them both for ski lessons, sledding and of course the special hot cocoa and pancakes at our favorite pancake shack. There's nothing like a 3 generation ski vacation!

  552. Cicely Lundberg on October 27, 2008 at 1:15 p.m.

Our favorite activity is downhill skiing!

I am so excited for winter here in Maine this year. Last year I wasn't able to get out with my 2 year old daughter much due to her little brother just arriving. He is one now and I am looking forward to them playing together in the snow. My husband is especially looking forward to sharing the joy of "fort" building. It is going to be a great winter this year, I can just feel it. I want my little ones to embrace the cold weather here in Maine so it is important for us to show them a variety of activities to do outside.

  554. Rebecca Peters on October 27, 2008 at 1:29 p.m.

We love to go outside make snowmen and forts and go sledding.. We used to live next to a cemetary with a huge hill, but now we have moved and will need to find a new exciting hill to go on!

I have always loved sledding, and this will be the first year my son is old enough to go with me! Can't wait to take him. If I win, the clothes will be donated to a child in the program I work for, Friends of the Children. We work with at-risk youth and I know they could use winter wear!

  561. Ruth Adams on October 27, 2008 at 2:33 p.m.

I love playing in the snow with my grand daughter. Our favorite winter retreat is Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. There are tons of winter sports for us--skiing, snowmobiling, etc. My grand daughter has had several ski lessons, and really loves the bunny hills. There are also lots of indoor activities for when we're sitting around the fireplace in the lodge. This is a family tradition that I have carried on since my daughter was a little girl, and I am glad to continue our winter retreat.

  562. Elena on October 27, 2008 at 2:36 p.m.

  569. Jennifer Kieper on October 27, 2008 at 3:44 p.m.

Since we live in beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada, there is no snow. My husband and I have a favorite place only 30 minutes from the house called Mount Charleston. There is a wonderful restaurant on top of the mountain with great views of the snow and woods. We have gone there every winter for the 6 years we have known each other. We have warm drinks, and enjoy the scenary, while we talk about our lives and our future. Now our future is here! We gave birth to our beautiful daughter Samantha Claire in July. We are looking foward to the many years we can now have enjoying our tradition with her.

  570. elif on October 27, 2008 at 4:19 p.m.

We have our annual family reunion at a cabin in Lake Tahoe and spend our time sledding and snow shoeing until we're all too cold then go inside long enough to drink hot chocolate and nibble before we're back outside again.

  571. Brandi Mincey on October 27, 2008 at 4:31 p.m.

We have had a tradition now for about three years to go with a bunch of friends up to Donner Lake in California, to a friend's cabin. Now that we are all starting families, it's fun to bring all the kids, and enjoy our time in the snow, hiking, exploring, and of course staying inside the cozy cabin playing games and eating good food!

I loved watching my daughter sled w/my husband on the disc down the icy hill. She loved it and I was happy not to have to go myself!

  576. Deanna on October 27, 2008 at 6:27 p.m.

We live in CNY and get about 120" of snow in an average year. So in order to survive, you have to embrace the snow! Making snowmen and snow angels, building forts, and going sledding are a big part of winter with the kids. But by far one of my favorite things to do is go to a local sleigh rally at a historic site during the town's winterfest. In addition to watching horses and sleighs go around the property, you can get a ride, tour the site, participate in childrens crafts and of course enjoy hot chocolate. Its fun for all ages!

  577. carrie on October 27, 2008 at 6:43 p.m.

Oh how we love the snow. Last year on one of our snow days we were able to make a fantastic snow bear. A 4 foot bear complete with ears, and we used a little food coloring in a spray bottle with water to make him pink! It took hours to make and we were all cold wishing for warmer gloves! All the the neighbors walked by just to see the snow bear! What a site! Snow is on its way and this year who knows what we will make maybe a snow cat.

  580. Donna K on October 27, 2008 at 7:07 p.m.

My favorite thing is to play outside with the kids. Then we come in to drink hot chocolate in front of the fireplace as we warm up.

  581. Cathy S. on October 27, 2008 at 7:08 p.m.

Our favorite tradition is going out to a cut-your-own Christmas tree farm. The kids love running around to find the best tree, then getting a ride on the tractor to haul it back to the car. The place we go also serves hot chocolate and cookies. Of course, it is not always that cold when we go, but it is the anticipation of the season that is so much fun. Last year we brought the hats and gloves and warm winter coats for all, but forgot to bring shoes for my youngest (1 year old) daughter. She could have cared less although I felt like the worst mother. And of course she insisted on walking by herself.

  582. Lisa Galloway on October 27, 2008 at 7:29 p.m.

We live in South Carolina and we don't get much snow, so when we do I cram everything I can in, we build a small snowman, and make snow candy and throw snow balls...it is great fun for a dday, then it melts away unless we get lucky and freezes!!

  583. Angel on October 27, 2008 at 7:32 p.m.

just getting bundled up and going outside in the yard is great fun. Everything seems different to the kids when there is snow covering every inch

  584. Tawnee on October 27, 2008 at 7:42 p.m.

Our family's favorite wintertime activities are ice skating and ice hockey. My husband and I are not very competent ice skaters (I can skate, but I can't stop!), but our son loves to play hockey. Of course we love to watch him play, but we're also trying to catch up to his skating skills so we can enjoy all of us being on the ice together. :-)

  585. Michelle H. on October 27, 2008 at 7:44 p.m.

My favorite winter activity would be the family outing to choose the Christmas tree.

  586. Marlena U. on October 27, 2008 at 7:53 p.m.

  601. Angela Young on October 28, 2008 at 9:27 a.m.

My son didn't get to do much outdoors this past winter. I am hoping that we have lots of snow that we can get out and play in and build snowmen.
