Photo Friday: First ICEE
I often write about what I hope the kids will get out of travel. A sense of their place in the world, a more open-minded attitude towards differences, a sense of history, and more. But sometimes travel is just fun. I'm more likely to introduce some special childhood treat on vacation, in the knowledge that we I won't face weekly (or daily) begging for a repeat.
A hot day, a tired kid, and an opportunity to learn just how red your tongue can get! What could be better?

Mmm, I want one of those now. I agree, it's about new experiences :)

That's a clever parenting strategy, by the way. Things don't become habits if they're not part of your routine.

That's a sneaky way to expose-yet-limit treats! I used to really want Icees as a kid. These days I don't think I can finish one. Blech!

You can almost taste the contentment!

I'm with you on this one! Holidays are a time to try out new things, including treats. You can't visit a new country and NOT find out what sweets they eat!

He looks like he's enjoying every minute of it. I like your strategy, very clever!

Love this pic. It's been a while since I participated in Photo Friday. Feels good to be back.

I have such a sentimental attachment to ICEEs...that was a big treat that my dad loved to share with us. And I agree...tasty treats are a big part of traveling for us, too.

@amida I had just enough of that ICEE to dye my tongue deep red and stick it out at my son. As long as we are on vacation, there's no reason I can't be silly too ;)
@Victoria I'm with you, we usually try out "local" snacks and sweets when we travel. In Southern California, an ICEE seemed like a good fit!

I've never tried an ICEE but it looks like a treat for al ages. Love his look - almost like he's composing a limmerick as he sucks.

@Cate possibly an ode to high-fructose corn syrup and red dye!
