There's something about finding an American food shop in Paris that makes me chuckle, but the fact is that there are stores like this in almost every major city around the world. They're designed to feed hungry expats who just can't live without the comforts of home, but there's no reason you can't pop in and buy a jar of peanut butter or a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for your little traveler.

I have long recommended the Sit 'N' Stroll
convertible stroller/carseat to traveling parents. The stroller quickly converts into a carseat, making it a good choice for wheeling through the airport and onto a train or to use around town when you will be hopping into taxis.
For 20% off of the Sit 'N' Stroll
at Amazon.com, use coupon code LT5QV8E4. While you're at it, you might want to sign up for Amazon Mom which gives you free prime membership when you buy diapers and other baby products through Amazon
*Promotion Details: Offer good through March 6, 2011, on the midnight blue color combination only. Applies only to products sold by Amazon.com. Does not apply to products sold by third-party merchants and other sellers through the Amazon.com site.
I receive a small commission when you purchase an item at Amazon through a link on DeliciousBaby, and that income helps me keep this site going

I know that sunshine and warmth like this are only a plane ride away, but today, one of Seattle's rare snow days, this feels a world away.

Last summer I wrote about our wonderful family camp experience at Olympic Park Institute. We plan to return this year (at our own expense). In case you'd like to join in the fun, you can use coupon code alumni2010 for 25% off of any spring 2011 weekend. Kids age 4 and under are always free, so if you're traveling with young kids this really works out to be a very reasonably priced Seattle area adventure.

Is there anyone out there who wouldn't want one of these pretty candy apples? They're a whole fantasy unto themselves

Last week I posted a picture of a Pirate Ship in the Princess Diana Memorial Playground in London, England. Here it is again
Believe it or not, we spent almost an entire day at this playground! Our transit home from Istanbul had been unexpectedly suspended due to an ash cloud from Iceland's erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano (rembemer that?). With no particular plans in London, an uncertain schedule, and three kids who were clearly all done with sightseeing, a playground seemed like just the thing to do! Certainly it was better than spending the day in our hotel navigating the British Airlines phone tree in the hopes of securing a flight home on a flight that might only be canceled again.
We couldn't have been luckier, the weather was about 75 degrees, and though we wouldn't have noticed on our own, locals kept commenting on how peaceful the parks were without any air traffic noise overhead. Let's hope there aren't many more opportunities to experience London in such quiet!
Everest was so inspired by Captain Hook's pirate ship that he built his own out of "found objects" (I suppose that seemed safer than climbing to the top of the ship's mast)
There was ton's more to explore though - from musical instruments to teepees
And a cool elevated pathway
The playground even has its own cafe with organic sandwiches for mom and dad, pizza for the kids, and of course popsicles and ice cream!
We rarely take the time to sit in the sun and enjoy a playground all day - whether we are traveling or at home. A year later, what I remember more than any particular activity is the way that day felt. A rare opportunity to just let go of everything and be in the moment. After all, we had nowhere in particular to be and no way to get home. We can have chosen to spend the day stressed out about our sudden change in plans, but instead, we did this.

One of the side effects of traveling with young kids is that you get to know playgrounds all over the world. Here's one of my favorites - can anyone guess where we spent a warm sunny day climbing on a pirate ship? I'll post the answer and more pictures on Monday.

Last week as we drove to school, Everest piped up in the back seat "Rain, Rain, Rain, mommy I'm tired of rain when will it be summertime?" Not for for a while, I said, but we do have spring break coming up, where would you like to go? That's when Darya volunteered "Mommy, let's go to Hawaii, it's always sunny and warm there." Should I be worried that my 4 year old already has her next vacation destination picked out? Perhaps... but instead I'll just revisit the pictures from our summer vacation and hope that they temporarily lift me out of the dull gray haze of Seattle's winter weather.

I never miss an opportunity to stop at this Granville Island bagel shop when I'm in Vancouver. The bagels are terrific, but it's the homemade cream cheese that elevates them to perfection.

I just love this picture of Everest's first trip to a playground. We're in Paris, and at 6 months old, he's way too young to do much, but he loves watching the bigger kids play, and it's fun for us to chat with local parents.
