Just about a year ago, we took our first real road trip with the kids and explored Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos. A year later, with a new baby in the house who was barely a figment of our imagination back then, the trip seems like an eternity ago. It also brings back very warm memories of cactus, sinful amounts of guacamole, and the visual warmth of adobe buildings. Want to relive those memories with me? You can start with this blog post: Albuquerque with Kids and follow the links at the bottom of the page to read more about our trip.

Here are a few of the stories that I enjoyed this week.
If you've written something particularly great recently that you think I shouldn't miss, feel free to send me email.
Mira Terra's story about Ucluelet, BC makes me wish I was off exploring instead of home changing diapers.
Here is a funny post from TravelSavvyMom about 5 things she learned while visiting SeaWorld
Did you know that many of California's wonderful state parks are at risk of closure?
BabyToolkit has a great tip about stain removal that would work better for travel than my usual "powdered OXY in a ziplock" routine. I'll be giving this a try.
If you are using SIGG bottles when you travel instead of buying water at the airport, you'll want to read this story about how SIGG has just admitted that their bottles were lined with a material that contained BPA. We threw our own SIGG bottles out a few years ago when that lining started to peel off into the contents.

As summer draws to a close, and as it gets easier and easier to get around with three kids, I'm beginning to feel a little bit restless. We've been branching out from our normal routine lately, and I've officially tagged next week "mommy camp."
We spent this morning at the Japanese Garden in Seattle's Arboretum. While that might not sound like a kid friendly attraction, young children love it, and a steady stream of toddlers make their way through the gatehouse each morning.
Since it's Photo Friday, I won't tell you why... I'll show you

I want to thank everyone who entered to my giveaway for a Medela Freestyle Breastpump.
The randomly selected winner was Saebbe who said:
I can't wait to take my son to the beach(any beach really) for the first time. He loves the water! I grew up in AZ so I never even saw a flowing river until I was 11 or 12.
Saebbe, please email me your mailing address, and I will send you your prize!
Didn't win this time? I have another great giveaway starting soon. Be sure to check back (or subscribe so that you don't miss a thing).
Many thanks to Medela for generously sponsoring this giveaway. If you are a fan of Medela products, take a minute to check out their Mom Mavens program.

Now that my post-baby haze is starting to lift, I'm finding myself with more time to read other blogs again. It's nice to be back. I've really missed reading about other family travel experiences, new tips, and more. Here are a couple of stories that I enjoyed recently.
I enjoyed this story about Camping Under The Night Sky with kids over at ZipnTizzy
With all the recent media about Americans traveling to Cuba, it was fun to read this travel blog about a family trip to Cuba
Just in time for Breastfeeding Month, here's a story about Breastfeeding in Bangkok
Wandermom has some great tips for managing video games on the road
I am planning to start regular link-roundups again, so if you've written something particularly great recently that you think I shouldn't miss, feel free to send me email.

This is a reader question from Brianne:
Do you know if most airplanes have electrical outlets in their bathrooms? I have an electric pump and obviously would need an outlet in order to pump on the plane.
Bathroom electrical outlets, when available, are often marked as being only for use with razors. On some flights, there are also electrical outlets at every seat, and you can usually check the airline website to find out how your flight will be equipped.
Even on a plane equipped with electrical outlets, electrical equipment sometimes fails, and if you need to pump in flight (or at the airport restroom) the most reliable option is to bring along a battery adapter for your pump so that you can use it anywhere.

"That's the worst idea I've ever heard," was my best friend's response when I told her about our upcoming overnight getaway. Why would she say that? For starters, those of us who live in Seattle love to disparage the rest of the state - it's almost an artform. We love our city, why leave it for Bellevue, or Spokane, or in this case, Tacoma. Second, I plan to visit to Tacoma with all three kids and no husband. Perhaps she's right... there are any number of exhausting things that might happen, but I'm looking forward to the trip anyway.
My poor husband's work is piling up, and the nightly interrupted sleep isn't helping him focus. I might not get a break by heading out of town, but he will... and that's important too.
What's in it for me? I'm looking forward to the extra time with the kids. When we're at home, I get caught up in housework, cooking, my blog, my friends and any number of other things. I feel like I'm just beginning to wake up from my post-partum (and post BlogHer/TBEX) haze only to find that summer is almost over. This overnight getaway is a last-ditch effort to spend some quality time with E & D before the school-year routine takes over again.
Tacoma isn't as glamorous as Paris, or London, or even nearby Portland and Vancouver, but it's what I can manage on my own right now - and I've been pleasantly surprised at all the fun sounding activities I turned up with a little help from Google and some friends. It's also a short enough drive that I can return home if things get out of hand.
I'll share all the gory details right here, but before I go, let me know if there's something in Tacoma (an attraction, restaurant, factory tour or something else) that I absolutely must not miss...
